Well it won't hurt 360 console sales but I'm not sure that there are that many out there who don't already have 360 that'll be all that interested in Halo3.

Two no-brainers for increasing console sales in my opinion are 1) more family and kids oriented games and 2) lower price.

Shortest article ever. However, here is my question. Obviously people will buy an Xbox 360 for Halo 3, but will it be enough to justify not dropping the system price? Yes, it is competively priced to the PS3, but is the system really going to be out for two years without a price drop? The Xbox dropped from $300 to $200 6 months after launch. With the Elite, Microsoft is increasing the prices of their system. Personally, I feel as if the Xbox 360 is the best choice for this generation. However, despite the drop in popularity in the PS3, globally it is still doing better than the Xbox 360 did after half a year. Well, I bought my 360 for Call of Duty 2, Better XBL, and just an amazing system... Though I kind of wish the Elite was out when I bought it.

I know I have two friends who are brothers who are buying an Elite just for Halo 3. I'm sure there are tons of people waiting for a realease date on Halo 3 so that they can buy their Elite in time.

I'm actually thinking of returning my 360 to Sam's (And we all know they don't care if you bought it 5 years ago, lol) and buying an Elite. Problem is that I bought mine in a bundle. I got a 360 Premium, an extra controller and a Play and Charge kit for $450. The Play and charge and extra controller is already $80, so if I do buy an Elite it'd cost me about $110 to upgrade. And I'd have an extra white controller, which'd look tacky. Black 360, black Play and charge, black headset, 2 black controllers, and a white controller? Eh...

If Microsoft is going to drop the price of the Xbox any time soon it would be perfect for them to do it when they announce the release date of Halo. If they also timed it to be when a big game drops like Mass Effect, Bioshock, Forza 2, or Blue Dragon.

I think their are plenty of people waiting for Halo before they go and get a 360. I also agree that the best way to sell systems once Halo drops is a price drop and more games aimed at younger people.

Microsoft needs RARE to get on the kids games asap. Banjo 3 will hopefully be bigger for them. Maybe with all that new cash Vista just got them they could "aquire" a few studios that are aimed more at kids.

Halo3 is "THE" system seller if your competition is PS3.

This WAS the case for MS/360 before PS3 committed seppuku. MS needs to quickly recognize that its new competition is Wii and it needs to adapt its strategy quickly and aggressively.

Price and family games. Sell a motion sensitive controller with a Wii Sports copy for $50 and do it quickly. You'll automatically have all the 3rd party Wii games ported to 360 in no time at all.

Wow.. you're kidding, right? There are likely a lot of people waiting for Halo 3 to drop before purchasing a 360. Many are probably also hoping a price drop comes before then. But even if it doesn't, many people won't hold out any longer.

While that is true of many, I was convinced to buy a 360 by another game entirely. I never really put any serious thought towards getting a 360 until i played Rainbox Six: Vegas on a friends one! I'm hooked! I'm getting an Elite as soon as it gets a European release. Vegas is such a great game.

Don't get me wrong, I love Halo too, and I know it'll more machines faster than tieing them to the back of an F1 racecar, but there are other games that deserve some recognition as machine movers too.

Like Mass Effect. That is going to move so many consoles!! Another game I can't wait to get.

@ Fernando, wrong. Many people are waiting for games they like to invest in ANY of the next-gen systems. for my friend, it was Zelda that convinced him to get Wii and GHII convinced him to buy 360. Many friends of mine say they'll buy a Wii for Brawl or Super Mario Galaxy

The big question is if Halo 3 can outsell 2, given that 360's install base will be about 1/2 of what Xbox's was when 2 was released

I don't know how the latter 6 months of 2007 can contain so much awesomeness. MP3, Galaxy, Halo 3, Mass Effect all basically confirmed, with strong possibilities of MGS4, Brawl, and RE5

maybe there'll be a breach in the spacetime continuum

I personally know 15 people buying a 360 just for halo 3 (im sure they will play other games its just halo 3 launch is when they plan on picking it up). I also know another 20 people online who post the same thing. And Im sure there are millions more out there. I expect MS to sell 1 million + 360s on halo 3 launch date. (and 6 million + halo 3 copies)
