Sure, you could wait until the NFL draft on ESPN today to see the "exclusive worldwide reveal" of Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare ... or you can just click the movie above. CoD4 was pseudo-announced earlier this week when advertisements for the game showed up on our own little piece of the intertubes. Now game announcements can come in many forms, either from the actual company, ESRB, Gamefly or even the advertisements on our own website.
It definitely looks like Call of Duty is going in a different direction, for better or worse will certainly be determined by sales. It looks like we've got some nasty "Eastern Europeans" and jihadists. Fighting Nazis is pretty cool across the board, but delving into the modern political climate may hit just a little close to home. Check out the trailer above to see if it reminds you of a stylized version of the six o'clock news.

Thank god this is being dev'd by IW (A PC shop first and foremost). I wouldn't be surprised to see this on the PC first(Apparently Fall 2007), then next-gen consoles. The page listing the PC version is down, wonder if they are revising it.

Trailer looks great. I don't see how anyone can complain about it at all. Lots of jaded people and fanboys who really should give up gaming.

I don't generally like WW2 shooters. I have Day of Defeat: Source (which I almost regret buying, got a little entertainment out of it) and Call of Duty 3 for the Wii, only because Red Steel wasn't doing it for me and I wanted to experience solid FPS Wiimote controls. It controls great, by the way. If COD4 is anything like BF2 then I might get it.

I have TONS of friends in the military that tell me that it's nothing close to what the media portrays it here. While they do say that there are bad people there, a lot of good has been done. I just got a picture back from a friend who is a Marine and I could see him playing soccer with some kids. Don't give me this crap that we are nothing but a warmongering country. I think this game is cool and while yes, it's going to hit closer to home, it's the reality we are all faced with. If you want to keep ignoring it and hiding your heads in the sand, go for it. As for me, I'm glad I live in a country where our leaders are strong and want to bring freedom to the rest of the world. I hope this game gives us all a real reality check. But still, if it doesn't come to PC (even if it did, I wonder if I'd have enough money to upgrade when the game would be released), I will have to pick up a next-gen system partly to play this (assuming it gets good reviews :P). For those of you who believe this game was created solely because of our efforts in Iraq and Afghanistan, perhaps you should read the interview about it in Game Informer. They said they created the storyline in COD4 to stay away from political views on the game and still give it the todays-war feel.

Like PhilJ said, If this is going to influence the way you think about your world you shouldn't even be playing games. Its just a game, a game where you get to kill people in a war setting and not worry about actually getting killed in reality. Just play and have fun and don't complain. I personally wouldn't care if the game had antiwar or prowar messages on every surface of every object as long as its possible for me to splatter my enemies blood on it.
