Gilbert Arenas is the NBA Live '08 cover

Washington Wizards basketball player Gilbert Arenas may be getting the greatest gift a basketball player, who also happens to be a gamer, can get -- the cover to this year's NBA Live. According to the Washington Times the guard beat out LeBron James for the cover. Arenas had previously quipped last year during the hype to get a PS3 for launch that if he name dropped that he was LeBron James he'd have gotten a system early.Sadly, Arenas tore his knee earlier this month and won't play the rest of the season. Well, while he recovers he can check out his picture on the cover of NBA Live and play with himself ... er, control himself in the game. Now that he's made the cover of NBA Live, if Arenas wants to get ambitious and show he's the true gamer/athlete he can pick up soccer and football to make the covers of FIFA and Madden over the next couple years.

Well, he does play lots of video games, so I guess it's all good. Still, I think they should go with number 24 of the Lakers, Mr Kobe Bryant, given that he's the most popular player and all.

just a grammatical issue, but it effects the story... the article says "may be on the cover" at the start, then says "he made the cover" by the end, a little confusing.

Steve Tran: Riiiiight... because Arenas PLANNED on tearing up his left knee so he couldn't play in the playoffs... which is what players of his caliber are working toward for 82 games a year.

Gilbert. is a bitch. He was alway whining about getting respect. When you have to talk to get noticed somethings wrong. Now he has that commercial like were supposed to feel sorry for him. YOU WERE BENCHED BECAUSE YOU COULDNT GET THE JOB DONE!!! Hey it happenes. Hell camby couldve gotten the cover for being defensive player of the year. Baron Davis anyone???

On April 30th, EA SPORTS announced (more like confirmed) that Arenas will be the cover athlete and spokesman of NBA Live 08.
“This is a dream come true,” said Arenas. “I’m a huge gamer and have been playing NBA LIVE since 1995. I never imagined that I would see my face on the cover of an EA SPORTS videogame.”

Arenas may not be as blessed as some superstars to be on a predominant team that can win the finals like Dwayne and Kobe had but, he is an outstanding individual player who helped Washington go into 3 straight playoff appearances. Not to mention that he's also a heavy scorer. In my opinion, he deserves to be on that cover. He's the best thing Washington has had since Darrell Green and Art Monk. Look out for Washington in the next couple of years......
