EndWar controls to be nothing like Battle for Middle-earth II
EGM has secured some hot new details on the fourth pillar of the vast Tom Clancy empire, the RTS EndWar. The game is being headed up by Michael de Plater, a familiar name to fans of the Total War series, who said he's taking a different approach to the console RTS. In fact, EGM quotes him as saying "[The Battle for Middle-earth II] was a test case for exactly what we didn't want to do." Oh, snap!
Reporting from the EGM info, CVG says the game will pit the U.S. Joint Strike Force, Russian Spetsnaz and European Enforcers against each other on fully-destructible battlefields, with fights limited to 12 squads at a time. With all of the questions that it does answer, EGM leaves the most important one on the table: Has no one realized that if this is, in fact, the "end war," it'll leave Tom Clancy slinging curly fries at Arby's? Hopefully we'll find the answer in next month's issue of the mag.

I like BFME2 controls.... They arn't mouse and keyboard but they are the best I've seen for an RTS... minus C&C3 for the 360... Best as in console not PC obviously....

Weird. Didn't people praised BFME2's controls?
Phranctoast @ Apr 30th 2007 1:45PM
i thought the controls were good for bfme2 as well. EA really tailored the controls and it gets shot down rather harshly. Well lets see if they can do any better.

Am I the only person who liked the controls for Command and Conquer for the PS1. I like the controls for C&C3 for the xbox 360, but I wish they added the function of dragging a "Highlight Box" to select multiple units.
And yes I know that you can hold down the "A" button to select multiple units, but it's not the same.

Hands down B4ME2 had the best controls in an RTS game to date. They were intuitive, smooth, got the job done. There were some opportunities but it was definitely a win in terms of usually bloated RTS controls.

Well if this is the endwar, TC can always make a WWII game, not like that genre's been touched yet.

The controls for BFME2 weren't bad. The game ran like crap on my 360 though. Reminded me of playing AoE2 on my old 300 MHz G3. I haven't checked out C&C3 yet on the 360 so my vote for best console RTS goes to Full Spectrum Warrior.

Hhhmmm... so you're telling me that seizure inducing viral video from last week was for an RTS?
Really???
Gee, I just completely lost interest. Apparently so did the entire internet, seeing as this post has been up for almost six hours and has received 8 responses... on JOYSITQ! Maybe you shouldn't misrepresent your IP with sketchy ass viral videos there Ubisoft, whaddaya think?
The Total War designer's association to the title actually does intrigues me, but the last thing that viral campaign said to me was "RTS".
Plaid Ninja @ Apr 30th 2007 10:37PM
I have to admit, now that I know its a RTS I have zero interest.

RTS games on consoles are never a good thing so I'm not holding my breath on this one.

Russian Spetz vs European Enforcers (Enforcers, wtf?) vs a USA "Joint Coalition", are you kidding me? Does this take place on earth or in "Clancy-Land"? Clancy has got to get over the Cold War, even though America doesn't really get along with Russia, I wouldn't call us enemies nowadays by any means. If this is the war of the future, why is it between the enemies of the past...and the rest of Europe. Also, if this is about a "World War", why are only two/two and a half continents represented? That doesn't really encompass a "World War" in my mind.
