NY Times: W. Virginia schools begin adding DDR to curriculum
62
Over a year ago, West Virginia announced plans to incorporate Dance Dance Revolution into the physical education curriculum in all of their 765 public schools. Today, the New York Times takes a look at their progress, with nearly all of the state's 185 middle schools already outfitted with the obesity-battling leg-shaking simulator and the remainder of the 765 due to receive theirs by next year. While the article goes over the regular praise for exergaming -- namely, getting sedentary kids off their do-nothing keisters -- it's a welcome update on one state's ambitious plans. Huge bonus points to the first state that requires kids to play Devil May Cry with that DDR pad.

-.- why does everything violent blamed on videogames? It is not the videogames that caused him to shoot down so many people...anywayz this is about having DDR in schools...*thumbs up* i like it, i wish my school would do that too...maybe those kids there don't look like its taking affect because it hasn't been in their school that long at all. You can't just lose 20 pounds by exersizing in 2 weeks (and if you can, stop being annorexic ((spell check please?))) I actually used to be an overweight kid like that before i tryed DDR. and now that i play it alot i'm always in good shape for any sports season comming up

who cares wow they have ddr sweet, I would rather have that then play crappy ass games in gym class and for the comment about being infront of computer screens, this is the future coming ahead of us and are tech is getting even better as soon as you know it everything will be a computer. You have to stop flameing about how kids have ddr shut the fuck up and stop hating on shit you dont have oh and by the way FUCK JOCKS

Heh, they have it at my school in WV too. It's great, although most of the kids(other than me, of course) can't play their way out of a paper bag. Oh well, it's good excersise anyway. We needed a change in the curriculum. Of course, this is only my rather feeble opinion..

ddr was in my curriculum sophomore through senior year for my band class. Are band is quickly becoming one of the best marching bands in class B in Indiana, the number one state for marching bands in the country.
We would use this to understand different patterns and the foot-ear coordination that we used to march on the field. its a good workout if its meant to be used as a workout, and its good for marching bands too.

Dear ignorant people who plan on commenting on this article:
Please note that West Virginia is a state on its own and is not, to the disappointment of many geography failures, a part of the state of Virginia.
Thank you.

Honestly, to those of us who are fans of DDR: Wouldn't we be have been more surprised if it -hadn't- become a part of a school's curriculum? Even if the only American music that they actually added to any of the DDR series was either from the 80s, total crap, or both, it's still an awesome series. ;D
@ David(7.)'s remark, "How? With their sweet new moves?"
WARNING: All sweet dance moves acquired through the excessive use of DDR may be exceptionally less sweet when attempted without the use of a DDR mat. For the sake of your pride and overall social status, please take precaution.

I just wanna say to tell someone to more or less get over people picking on you...it's a freakin' Cop out answer...just because -YOU- Lack Empathy, Just because -YOU- aren't overemotional doesn't mean we're all like you...Those of use injured emotionally are sensative people...humans are trainable just like your dog...you beat us long enough even we get the clue...but more importantly Empathetic, Overemotional and sensative people are better in my opinion then anyone that uses the suck it up cop out because if your kid gets beat to heck and back it's that little Empathetic, Overemotional, Sensative child that's gonna stop what their doing and come over to check on them and worry about them because their capable of feeling your child's pain as thier own.
The Flaw they have though is that they're easily injured emotionally and physically because everyone else's feelings are more important then their own. I appologize for any offense but that kinda B.S. that basically says oh suck it up really hurts to hear because that means you are only thinking of your own expirences and you lack the same emotional depth....

all you sports fanatics and people bashin fat people, go gain 130 lbs and let me know how much you want to go excercise, or say you're heavy-set from the get-go and are excluded from activities with the other kids, how would you feel. chances are you would not want to play on the same team with the people who are always picking on you, and in P.E., that is everyone who is in shape.
I used to be one of the skinny kids, now I am fat, and honestly, school sports are what made me gain weight. They degraded my self esteem because the majority of people on the teams were not interested in working as a team, or helping team mates out,, 3 years in a row i tried to play football, every year i got discouraged because when i went into the weight room, the "fit" people would always ignore me rather than help me out. I think DDR is a shitty game, but it is a very active game, and if this will help some of these kids feel better about themselves and promote excercise, than quit bitching about it. not every kid wants to go play basketball or baseball. If you aren't one of those kids, and never have been, chances are you are too narrow-minded to look at things from a different perspective and see the point of the gaming industry in creating games like these.
in conclusion, I'd just like to say to you gaming bashers..
wait..
it's on the tip of my tongue....
FUCK YOU!!!

My god...when I read this article, I freaked. Even though I live on Long Island, I am hoping my school does this! I LOVE DDR (Serisoly just got off it) and many of my friends do too. Whoever thought of this rocks. Big Time.
