"Turn to Page 2 for our riveting poll: How do you pronounce Catan? (Hint: It doesn't rhyme with Satan!)"

Well, it rhymes with Satan if you're thinking of Miroslav Satan. Well, sorta.

Great article, lol.

I'm not too interested in this game, but I'm glad people are excited for it.

Dumb question for us non-360 owners: I'm under the impression that buying XBLA games does not require a gold XBL membership... but does playing them via online multiplayer require gold?

Hi Andy,

Silver members of Live can buy Arcade titles but cannot play them on-line excpet during the occasional special free Live weekend events.

@ andy

you only need silver to download xbla games but gold is required to play multiplayer and have a place in the leader board i believe

@andy

dude, it's $50 for the whole year (less than $.14 cents a day!!) for gold membership, and you play online all the time--GoW, Burnout: Revenge (and soon Burnout Paradise), CoD, Halo2 (and soon Halo3), Crackdown, etc etc...and no stupid MMO monthly subscription fees (unless you really want to play crap like FFXI or PhantasyStarUniverse).

the PS3 online might be free, but you get what you pay for (and so far, my PS3 has given me nothing but F@H and grilled cheese sandwiches)...

other than that, #8 has the right info.

I know my target has clearance prices on the original xbox live kits. The black ones that were for the original xbox. They had a year subscription for half off ($25). They may not have hit 50% yet at your local target, but it's something worth checking out. Clearance prices go from 15% to 30% to 50%, 75%, and finally 90% off retail price.
Just look in the xbox aisle, and clearance endcaps.

I'm waiting for the logitech wireless controllers to go clearance. Should happen in may.

Also, even if it doesn't have a clearance sticker on it, take it to the scanner and check anyways. Sometimes the price change team doesn't actually get to ticket it before it goes clearance. That and other times it can be cheaper than what the clearance price is marked, because they're behind and haven't gotten to re-ticket it yet.

So since I'm probably ther only person who thinks Catan is more boring than a beached whale - how are Millipede and Centipede gonna be playable without a trackball? The controls will suck.

Is it me, or does the "Evolved" centipedes look like an acid-trip gone wrong? Hell, there are even trippy mushrooms on the screens

@ #10

I know the price of gold, that wasn't the issue. Fact is, I don't like online FPS games. I suck at them, and have no real desire to play Halo online just to hear 11 year olds trash talk me. No thanks. I'd be paying for Gold simply for XBLA games honestly, and I have yet to decide if that is worth it, especially considering the cost of the $360 in general.

Also, I'm not comparing it to the PS3 - that's not even an option right now. I already have a Wii, and I enjoy it, but Catan multiplayer on Live has me very very interested in investing in a 360.

$450 (plus tax) for online Catan is an awfully high startup price.

@ Andy

You get a free month of xbox live gold with a new system. So you can try out live thru that. And if you don't like it then don't pay for it.
