Today's most entrancing video: Sixaxis remote hack
The fine folks at pabr.org have engineered a Sixaxis controller into a remote for other devices, much like the frenzy of Wiimote hacking. The demonstration shows the controller tilting and rotating a plane, and it earns our nod as the video of the day.We all knew it could be done, but watching the hack in action has a snake-charmer-like affect on us -- and the plane in the video. Watch the clip after the break.

Sidepocket @ Apr 30th 2007 12:28AM
Er, why dose the thing look like its on strings?
Moe @ Apr 30th 2007 12:39AM
Wow that's very responsive.

It's a fake, he actually used magnets to achieve that effect.
:P
not bad though, but wouldn't a Wiimote hack have been cheaper for this? Oh wait, he probably needed his Wiimote to actually play games, not a problem for the Sixaxis!
Sorry, I just had to make those comments for the humor before someone else actually made them in earnest.

Yeah, he's totally using his Wiimote to play... um..... wait...
Um... to replay Zelda?

Sony would do well to release some free PSN title that basically showed off the functionality of the tilt controls. As this video shows, it's pretty impressive. Too bad there still aren't any games with decent implementations.
mccomber @ Apr 30th 2007 2:12AM
It's like some sort of creepy robotic spider... agree about the implementation in games, so far only flow has made the motions controls seem natural and usable. Guess we'll see what else it can do with Super RubaDub, and hopefully Lair.
ill trooper @ Apr 30th 2007 2:58AM
They should make some sort of game where you ARE a 'creepy robotic spider' like mccomber's comment... Crushing small towns and army tanks, while having to walk the spider like this tech video shows is possible... Jesus, Sony... It's your powerful box... DO SOMETHING WITH IT!
Ikitsumatatsu @ Apr 30th 2007 3:18AM
Sod spiders - I wanna control GIANT ENEMY CRABS with this thing.
Alex @ Apr 30th 2007 8:17AM
This thing was more responsive to the controller than a PS3 game lamlamlamma j/k
Motion sensing is the future of robotics

To think how amazing complicated it would be to build such a device outright: mathematically AND mechanically complicated. This project deserves some kudos in my opinion, and although it has dubious application, it's cool :)

"Oh wait, he probably needed his Wiimote to actually play games"
That sure explains why there are so many more Wiimote hacks than SIXAXIS ones

I wonder what would happen if he turned it upside down...
