Tomb Raider: Anniversary, day and date on GameTap and more
Referred to as May Day on their design blog, Turner's buffet-esque gaming service, GameTap, has some huge announcements today. The headliner of which is a real doozy. Through a deal with Eidos, the upcoming Tomb Raider: Anniversary will be made available on the service come launch day, June 5th, and at no extra cost to subscribers. The title will also be available to non-subscribers via their upcoming digital distribution store as well.GameTap has been offering brand-new, original titles at no extra cost for a while now (see: Sam & Max, Myst Online), but to take this trend and run with a third party is huge.
Closing out May Day is May 31st where GameTap will crack open its doors a bit with a new free-to-play portal. Not regulated to chump titles, the new service will launch with games such as Metal Slug, Bust-a-Move and Tomb Raider: Legend. This will be made possible with their new three-tiers of membership and a handy-dandy chart to explain these tiers (two of which are free, by the way) has been made available after the break.
In other GameTap news, both the press release and blog have mentioned the Metal Slug and King of Fighters series coming to the service. Nice.

This sounds really cool. Are games played with the keyboard? Or can you use a 360 controller?

#1 - You can use pretty much anything, but the 360 controller makes things sooooo nice.

You can really see the television business sense going into this; they've turned their premium channel and split it into regular cable and pay per view.
I had used Game Tap for a small while when it first launched; it might be time to get back into it.

this makes no sense. Pricing as follows?:
6.95/month (83.40 year) or
7.95 2x/year? (15.90 year) or
7.95 every 2 months? (47.70 year) or
8.95 4x/year? (35.80 year) or
8.95 every 4 months? (26.85 year) or
.99 first month, 9.95/month after (110.44 year)
which is it!? none really make sense at all, but the current structure, 9.95/month, is the clear loser.

It is a little confusing the way they put it in there, but basically it is like an mmo subscription - you can pay 9.95 a month, or you can pay $35.80 every 4 months (equals $8.95 a month) or $47.70 every 6 months (equals $7.95 a month)and so on. It's a bulk discount, basically. You get a cheaper per month rate if you buy more then one month at a time.

Is this the same Tomb Raider that got announced, then cancelled, then "outed" by the developers in hopes of bringing publicity to the finished-but-canned product?
