Ben Heck teaches us how to make a 'PS360' gamepad

Not content with putting a PlayStation 3 Sixaxis inside an Xbox 360 gamepad and letting the world be jealous, Ben Heckendorn is showing us how to make our own PS360 controller. All you need is a Sixaxis, an Xbox 360 gamepad, various tools and circuits, and a bit of technical know-how.
The end result leaves us, alongside the freakish monster of Science seen above, a Sixaxis shell and the innards of an Xbox 360 gamepad ... hmm, sounds like Heck should find a way to combine those parts into a controller and save us having to throw away perfectly good circuitry.
According to the post, part 3 in the how-to make an Xbox 360 Laptop Mk II series will return next week.

Jealous? Hardly. Wanting to punch this guy in the face just for him thinking I'd be jealous? Yes.
Durden @ May 2nd 2007 9:58PM
No thanks, I already got one.

If for some small chance hell actually did freeze over, and I purchased a ps3, it would deffenitly be on the condition that I have this controller.
horto @ May 2nd 2007 10:31PM
"seen above, a Sixaxis shell and the innards of an Xbox 360 gamepad"
Looks more like an 360 controller shell and the innards of a sixaxis gamepad to me! :P
Ghost @ May 2nd 2007 10:37PM
Interesting, but ultimately pointless.
(other mods of his have a point, "play a wii/360 in a laptop" and "making an atari into a handheld gameboy like device".)
Theta @ May 2nd 2007 10:51PM
@ 6
Comfort's quite a nice point, methinks. The 360 controller is by far THE most comfortable controller I've ever used.
wackychan @ May 2nd 2007 11:19PM
I think this guy needs to figure out how to to make a big mac and cook fries to a golden brown. I would love to taste.
atomheart @ May 2nd 2007 11:22PM
Best controller I've ever held.
(found the n-64 controller to be most comfortable, but the layout was meh.)
Derick @ May 2nd 2007 11:37PM
@5
haha....You took that directly out of context and inversed the meaning of the sentence.
Read it again.
Good god.

The Dualshock has always been the best, its why everyone threw such a hissy fit when they were trying something new, and then for some reason got pissed off when they went back to the original design.
Scott Martz @ May 3rd 2007 12:03AM
I do admit though, the 360 controller is my second favorite.
Bob @ May 3rd 2007 1:58AM
i want a wii-ps3-360
lol

The Dual Shock is NOT the best anymore. I had used the Playstation pads for years, and they are great, but the 360 pad is superior in pretty much every way...size, shape, ergonomics, triggers, face buttons, analog sticks. The 360 pad is by far the most comfortable pad ever made. There is only 1 thing that sucks about the 360 pad and that is the shitty, shitty D-pad.
exit stencil @ May 3rd 2007 12:26PM
with this knowledge i may yet play a FPS on the PS3. i can't stand how close the analog sticks are on the dual-shock/six-axis.
TouchmyWiimote @ May 4th 2007 12:01AM
There's no was I could make this myself. But I'd pay upwards to $100 bucks if this guy started taking orders.
remieres @ May 9th 2007 11:48AM
this looked like a weird idea but I'm not suprised, for one reason this is not the first time I've seen this happen. I owned a transparent universal 2nd gen consol controller that was in the shape of the Sega Genesis controller, yet it could operate the super nintendo and something else I think. and it was fun till i switched to the next gen after that.
remieres @ May 9th 2007 12:04PM
well I dont like the ps3 because they teased us with a very cool super looking controller that they scrapped and kept the boring and small dual shock looking controller. and i have large hands the Xbox controllers took me a while to get used to but I own the 360 now and I dont regret it because the controller is just the right size and i dont have to worry about moving my hands and screwing my game up :P
screw you @ May 9th 2007 3:40PM
this proves that the ps fans are jealous of 360. if not, then they wouldnt do this. i have cursed more then i have ever in my life right now of pure anger of looking at the 360 remote being used as a ps3 remote. SCREW YOU PS3 FANS! YOU KNOW YOU LOVE THE 360 MORE THEN PS3!!!
Yaz Dallali @ May 9th 2007 3:40PM
Well, PS's Joystiq is PS's Joystiq, and i dont really like it to looks like any other vedio games's console's joustic .. And I'm not really intrested in Xbox even, so i like the original.
Peace
Leona @ May 9th 2007 4:37PM
make it? how about someone makes it for me and sells it at best buy for 19.99
LAQ @ May 9th 2007 5:46PM
I say good job to him for spending his time doing something that requires knowledge and academia instead of being, as am I, glued to a computer for no apparently good reason. Not to mention that to some, the combination proves useful.
s.c,JRHO @ May 9th 2007 6:09PM
wow what is the point. why did this snot kid get on the news
DAN @ May 9th 2007 7:03PM
FOUR QUICK FACTS...
1. The 360 controller is by far the most comfortable controller out there.
2. Anyone who says the PS3 controller is more comfortable is; A. Ignorant, or B. One of those nerdy types that attempt to make thier meaningless lives seem more important by "taking a stand against all other video games platforms" because they "know" the PS3 is the best and will always be loyal to Sony.
3. The kid who made this hybrid controller should stop and re-evaluate his life, because that thing is completely pointless. If he puts this much effort into getting a date, he MIGHT have a chance of getting laid before he dies.
4. May 9th, 2007 must have been an insanely boring day for this "invention" to be one of the top stories.
trad @ May 9th 2007 8:13PM
Your title says FOUR FACTS but I can only count FOUR OPINIONS. Hooray for public schools.
adam @ May 9th 2007 9:28PM
shut up everyone whos bashing this idea. its cool and u know it ur just jealous cuz u cant make one
Llama @ May 9th 2007 9:40PM
Last ditch effort of Sony to increase ps3 sales? You decide.
Oh, and @ 26 I could easily put one together, if i cared to and had the materials. However, I don't want to ruin a perfectly good 360 controller.
Bonaparte @ May 9th 2007 9:53PM
I am glad gamers are turning to entreprenuership. Instead of being complacent playing with the crappy six axis controllers that Sony half-assed threw together simply for imitation purposes (From Nintendo), yet kept the outdated dualshock layout strictly for their "originality." Congratulations Ben.
andrew O. @ May 9th 2007 10:09PM
you should be dead for tampering wit the 360. im a big fan of microsoft and he goes and tampers and puts the 360s mortal enemy together with the 360 controller. thts like tampering with life not cool. not cool not cool at all. (ashamed)
Inb0und @ May 9th 2007 11:23PM
A nice twist on the orginary.
Nice how consoles are improving... and albeit there are some types of games that either are best on, or only available on consoles...
For those of you who only play console games and don't dabble with top notch PC games, you should consider giving it an honest shot. Gaming is lots of fun, why not try the best avenue available towards it?
Just trying to spread the happiness, not trying to flame/argue. But for those that get aggro just from reading this that's against their sacred consoles, please don't bother going aggro. Instead go talk to Mola Ram from Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom about fire and stones.
If that isn't enough then explain how you manage to sidestep the embarrassment from having to hide behind the hype of "wow, we got 3 or 8 or whatever # of cores... that are all substandard compared to a single true computer core. Not to mention our beloved shared memory. Sharing is caring, so lets spread the love around the entire system by sharing the same memory bank. wow!"
Have a nice day fellow gamers. :)
Tomas @ May 10th 2007 12:15AM
XBOX360 and PS3 had sex, and PS3 (being the b*tch) had a bastard child.. the PS360!!!
ian @ May 10th 2007 1:47AM
Or you could just....not ever touch a playstation 3, which drastically reduces the chance that you'll get CANCER.
God, those things suck. Why on earth would you destroy a perfectly decent 360 controller for that?
Hoosier2006 @ May 10th 2007 2:07PM
@ 23
I had to laugh when I saw your post because I don't think you realize how perfectly you are describing yourself!
StillTokin @ Jun 24th 2007 5:06AM
Yo, that guy called ''screw you'' the one talking about cursing PS fans... sorry bud but the only thing you have probably cursed is yourself by sticking your wee d1
