Devil May Cry 4 to be identical on PS3 and Xbox 360

In a video interview with IGN, Devil May Cry 4 producer Hiroyuki Kobayashi gives the 411 on protagonist Nero (not to be confused with the also playable Dante). "His specialties are a big revolver called the Blue Rose, and a big sword called the Red Queen." Hey, that's cool, gamers are totally comfortable with alternative lifestyles. Then Kobayashi drops the bombshell: the Xbox 360 and PS3 versions are going to be the same.
"Our plan is to make them pretty much identical," says the auburn-tressed developer. This is where armchair analysts point out that the PS3 costs $200 more than 360; shouldn't Sony's system blow the competition out of the photorealistic water? Kobayashi concedes, "You may be able to use some of the functionality in the PS3 as like a switch." We trust that makes more sense in the original Japanese than in IGN's shoddy on-the-fly English translation. Any bilingual readers care to take a crack at a better interpretation?

He probably means the PS3 version will have some extra effects sliders, so you can add/tweak a couple extra particles, etc.

I think what the blurp meant was even more halfassed Sixaxis gimmicks. I was already annoyed enough by Ninja Gaiden Sigma telling me to shake my controller like an unwanted baby who won't stop crying to powerup my Ninpo attck....

I never understood people who thought the PS3 was going to piss all over the 360 out the gate. Maybe it can do that in a few years...when the next generation of consoles is ready to come out. Did they really buy all that marketing nonsense? The fact that this announcement is newsworthy is mindboggling.
Oh, and one more thing, who the hell cries foul over a game being ported to another console other than the one you own? What a pathetic, greedy bunch of petulant brats you are.

Why spend another million bucks developing slightly better effects for the same game that won't sell enough copies to make up the extra cost?
That's the problem with buying the ever-more expensive and ever-less owned superconsole - there's diminishing returns for publishers who develop to the higher standard and scale backwards for more popular platforms.

Not really, those games are OUT of development. It's already been noted that programming for the PS3 is more difficult than the 360. Why waste economics making those games compatible?

Bah, you should realize that 90% of 360 games will be on PC. If it's made for the 360, it's easily enough sent to the PC. Plus "porting" is a term you use for consoles.
I'm just saying that you should chill out before you start attacking Capcom. Because we all know Capcom is still an amazing company. Despite what you may think, being a ps3 fanboy. ;)

Didn't hear any xbox fans and Nintendo fans cheering when RE4 was ported to PS2 with BETTER gameplay. ;) That move KILLED GC.
all fans work this way, except some of them are more loyal than others. Frankly, I think Capcom messed with the wrong crowd here. Just look at the way DMC fans reacted, I think Capcom is slowly realizing they don't always get away with craps like this.

I'll believe it when I see it. So far every PS3/360 game has played and looked a hell of a lot better on the 360.
If game has blurry low res textures, I wont be buying it.

and since the PS3 version was the first one considered, i'm betting it'll be the 360 (if its built with the non-unified RAM in mind, it won't be able to take advantage of 360's flex RAM)
i don't support porting, never have (although maybe it comes with the territory of being a Nintendo fanboy...)

There are other gaming blogs that I won't mention where the PS3tards(as I like to call them) are saying that due to the 360 the PS3 version will be crippled since it's an "inferior" console. I just have to laugh at that since the 360 games consistantly score higher when it comes to mult-console releases.. But what I really think is like #28 says, it's actually the 360 people who are being short changed due to the sketchy PSN setup we won't have any type of multiplayer or CoOp. At least the 360 version will have achievements.
Capcom is still my favorite dev and has proved itself time and time again. If the PS3 folks want to hate on them, make WORTHLESS petitions, etc thats just fine because they are always welcome on the 360.

Those who think its a win-win situation because it will be on both systems, it's not, fanboys have a reason to get disappointed, 3rd party exclusives are what validate a reason for buying a system, not first party games alone, and I would hate spending $600 for a system who's supposed "exclusives" are announced for other systems too.
The thing about Capcom and other 3rd party companies is that their core fanbase don't all own the same system; many Ps2 owners have jumped on the 360 boat, not being able to afford (or not wanting to pay for) the PS3. This is a business and they are only trying to gain some profits by pleasing fans.

Seriously the PS3 is not that expensive... my PS2 at launch was only $100 bucks cheaper (I'm in Australia).
As for the porting... who cares aslong as there are no extra features for either version.
Looks wise it's going to have to look the best it can for each console anything less would mean bad reviews and less sales and i doubt any developer would want that.

Before the year is over, you will see M VS C 3, but it won't be made by Capcom. Me and a group of my friends have been working on our own version of M VS C 3 for about 2 years. We're gonna release it online(Free) for the PC. Trust me, this won't be some crappy 2D indie game. Its gonna be the shit, just wait.

@33 Nobody gives a rats ass about Australia. It's all about Europe, Asia, and America. You think Sony loses sleep at night because of consoles sales in Australia? So let's just talk about the parts of the world that really matter here...like the US, where the PS3 IS expensive and obviously not worth that extra cost if you can get the same games on a cheaper system.
Oh, and people care because the whole reason to buy a PS3 is to get all this extra crap you can't get from other "inferior" systems. Would you spend $10,000 on a console that does the same stuff as a $5000 console? Heeeeell no...or maybe you would because you've eaten too many dingo babies.

I don't know what online features this game could really even benefit from? Coop would be bad, there's no question about it. It would be too chaotic and all the levels would need to be rebalanced for two people. It would be much too easy for one person to get crushed by the doubled(?) enemy count. People like achievements, but they don't do anything for gameplay (other than say you played it), and gameplay is all of what DMC is about. It sure isn't the story.

Don't forget rumble support. That's another big plus for the 360 version. With that said, rumble definitely adds to the immersive experience and DMC4 wouldn't be the same without one.

How has capcom "screwed" Sony? Correct me if I am wrong but they ARE still making DMC4 for the PS3 correct? In fact, Capcom has hardly "screwed" Sony. Numerous great Capcom franchises have come to fruition on their platforms and have stuck to them. RE took a breif absence on the Gamecube but quickly returned with RE4 (RE:Remake and RE:Zero were hardly anything to cry over losing) and they are back again with RE5 on the PS3.
Your bitching and moaning sounds more to me like fanboy whining. You can still play DMC4 and RE5 on your precious PS3. What? Are you upset that you don't get to play Lost Planet and Dead Rising?
Here's a novel idea...buy a fucking 360. It won't kill you ya' know. Maybe your Sony loving pal's will disown you, but at least you'll be able to play all your beloved Capcom games.
I fail to see how a company releasing a game on a system that has far more sales potential is "screwing" the consumer in any way. They are making their product available to the widest number of people possible. Therefore helping the consumer. Duh.
I don't think Sony fans really want Capcom to strictly go exclusive with one platform right now. Because I think they'd choose the 360 over the PS3. More users, larger install base, more money. The release of AAA title on the 360 is guaranteed bank. The release of a AAA title on the PS3 is a guarantee that you might sell 500,000 copies in a couple months, assuming that the wealthy late-20's males that all bought the PS3 get wind of your game being worth the cost, which isn't a guarantee, because most of them only play Madden, SOCOM and Call of Duty and NOTHING ELSE.

So... why exactly is this a story? I'm serious about this; why? I've assumed from the very beginning that they would be identical. In fact, I'd assume that about any multi-platform game being released simultaneously. It's the ones being released a year or more apart (like Oblivion) where I expect to see gameplay and/or graphical differences.

XBOX 360 is holding the ps3 back. Yes PS3 games are supposed to blow away the comp but it is up to the developers especially 3rd party developers to put there f***ing back in to it. like for example GTA4 because of the 360 short comings Rockstar cant put all they want into GTA4 (cough video games will never need more than ten gigs coughBS) and for the fact that they cant reach all the xbox users(cough*some dont have hard drive cough*)but instead of adding more stuff to the PS3 they want to make the 2 identical(load of BS finally theres a chance to prove PS3 is better and what to expect from the xbox down the line and rock* screws us over OOOOOOOOO i can't wait for GTA5. the XCOX 360 cant dodge bullets forever!

O yeah HALO 3 is cool but if its as big as everyone expects it to be.(lets see the XBOX fangirls burn me for this one)then almost every game around that release date is gonna feel the burn GOD help capcom if they dare release DMC anytime around HALO 3. well I dont care anymore until 3rd party people stop b*tchin about how hard it is to design for the ps3 because of the cell where never gonna win(WTF Ninja Gaiden did it)and we are being burned left and right by the once faithful (ace combat6 360 exclusive, i meen we have the f***ing six axis controller wtf)we are only gonna see the best of the ps3 by 1st party devs. "WE ARE PLAYSTATION!!!" it feels like is us against the world. but then again capcom aint showin the Wii any love too so im happy "misery loves company" Wii- 6 million consoles. its $255 get over it!!!
