"...the "unnamed" website that drove you to swear off blogging was (the potentially French) Joystiq..."

Is it pronounced "JOY stick" or "joy STEEQ"?

Hey Brinstar (acidforblood.net Brinstar?), it's actually pronounced joy-stick, but people often confuse us with French gaming mag Joystick so we like to joke that it's pronounced joy-steeq. Hey, it's the internet. Maybe it really is pronounced joy-steeq and we've been the ones pronouncing it incorrectly this entire time. We never asked Joystiq what it preferred.

I find it hilarious that nearly all the other blogs almost unaminously thought it was joystiq he was referring to when this all started.

He'll come back when he wants to. That's all there is to it.

I hadn't thought Joystiq said anything untoward or offensive-- at least nothing nearly equitable to the venom in his blog post-- but continuing to hang onto the issue in this fashion is pushing the line, and seems immature. You were not in the wrong, so what's with the defensive playground act?

C. Grant: I am indeed the author of that blog you refer to. ;-)

More on topic though, didn't Jaffe say he was going to quit blogging a while back? After God of War 1, but before God of War 2? He won't be on the wagon for long!

It really bothers me how all of you armchair authorities so callously thrash our icons as displayed in this blog. I mean, you people seem to have no empathy at all for the people and craft of making games and the difficulties inherrant of doing things "right". I've been making games for 13 years now and while I've had some great times, it's also been very difficult to constantly reinvent myself as all game developers have to do.

Accomplishment breeds pride..it's human nature. I believe Mr. Jaffe deserves a lot of respect based on his high level of accomplishments. It really sucks that you folks are so hopped up on your keyboard powertrip and squash people with your words as fippantly as if you were wiping your ass.

If it weren't for people like Mr. Jaffe, your world would not be as cool as it is right now, so try to have some empathy. The world would be a better place if you did.

Like I said, they're insensitive little fucks. I am so sick of the majority of the internet population pissing all over people that they should aknowledge and respect. In fact, no one should piss on another person, but the world isn't perfect.

If Dave Jaffe didn't want to be pissed on publically he should have found a career where his work wasn't released to the public.

But when you are asking people to give up hard earned money for your product you damn well better be ready to have people give their opinion on whether or not it is worth that cash.

Not pissing on anyone, not being a hypocrite. I'm just saying it like it is, that people should act a little more mature and respect people instead. "Pissing" is merely a metaphore for treating other people like crap, which I plainly think is wrong.

Agree that Jaffe comment was immature and silly. I get the feeling CAC is now GOW and he's having issues coming to grips.

But I side with him over Joystiq. This place is a joke. Horrible writing but worst of all is that they are paid my marketeers to write articles. Check it out: weblogsinc.com.

JT, I won't deny that they've had horribly written articles (although one of the bigger offenders was quietly removed.) I won't deny they often have horrible posts.

But you're bashing them for having banner ads and implying the banner ads influence the content? Destructoid brags about their ads. So does Kotaku.

Haha JT. Nice work. You're still on about this?

So, having advertising immediately compromises our editorial voice? Hey, someone call the New York Times! Let em know they need to ditch those ads, lest they lose all of their cred.

Unlike other blogs, you'll never see us promoting our advertisers in our editorial space. There's a strict disconnect at Weblogs, Inc. between sales and editorial -- that's why they promote that stuff on weblogsinc.com and not joystiq.com.

Oh, and the irony of this sentence is too much: "Horrible writing but worst of all is that they are paid my marketeers to write articles."

Thanks for playing!

The New York Times analogy is a good one to use. I'm not suggesting the weblogsinc connection has to do with banner adverts. That would be fine. As you say, everyone has adverts. I'm referring to blogs as advertising which, fellow readers, you should do some research into because this is going on in spades. Weblogsinc is a major intermediary between advertisers seeking bloggers to hype their wares, and bloggers seeking an income.

SO, back to the NYT. Yes, if I were to ever find out a front page NYT ARTICLE about PS3, Wii, or 360 was there because someone paid for it to be there, I would say they had no journalistic integrity. That's the shit you guys are up to, and you can read through the weblogsinc site to a get a very good feel for it.

Seriously, you're pretty weird about this. Who is paying who to place what where? We're a blog. Advertisers pay to have their ads placed on the site. You can see them. What's the BIG MYSTERY here? You referred to PayPerPost in some of your previous comments. Please read Weblogs, Inc. founder Jason Calacanis' blog for his thoughts on PayPerPost and do some serious research before running off with inane statements illustratrating an embarassing level of misunderstanding.

""7. ... I'm sorry, I may be confused.. Let me get this straight...

Joystiq: "...to make some fixes and revise some of the criticisms."
Jaffe: "The game got kicked out of format as two very key bugs were found at the last second. Fixing those allowed us time to go back in and fix the issue (or what we think is the issue) that IGN had with the magnet."

I fail to see where Joystiq's statement is correct. It is implied that Jaffe is going back to fix issues and criticisms... Criticisms, plural. He specifically states 1 issue by criticism and nothing more in his post. I don't think it was a misreading, It was a Mis-writing (not a word, I know).

Not to mention you compared him to a little girl, no matter how well you try to explain that part. If I said, Joystiq, like a retard trying to put a square peg in a circle hole, misses the point, would you say that "simile" is harmless and not insulting? It doesn't matter if the simile holds water or not, the insult implied is: Joystiq is retarded.

Tho, nice job on the spin C.Grant :) Whrrrrrllll!""

Quoted for PURE OWNAGE, seriously not one fan boy commented on this cats perspective.

oh and btw, Fuck david jaffe (its cool to swear cuz he did 850 times) the man is obviously an arrogant pile of retard. his games pwn though.

You have to admit, that trying to stop a bunch of guys from harping on someone for acting childish is better than just sitting back and watching him get beat to death by the words of arrogent gamers. If they are going to piss on someone for doing nothing wrong, then I will empty my big fat bladder to at least shut them up. I'd rather improve ideals by means that are contradictory and forceful, because no other way would work in my opinion. Am I pissing on these people? Yeah okay I am. But do they most definatly deserve it? Certainly in my eyes. Are they pissing on someone who doesn't deserve it? He may have been asking for it, but that doesn't mean it was called for. I think that bashing someone for something that isn't wrong, or whatever is wrong. It's very twisted and screwed up logic, but it makes sense.

I think it's GREAT that Jaffe has been "spoken to" by his superiors and peers and is feeling the sting of being such a mouthy diva. He's been spanked and put in his place. "I'll be quiet now, mommy"... HA! I love it.

I agree with Jaffe.. :)

Joystiq should do their research instead of making up reasons for the delay, out of context.
Jaffe did say that he were fixing the magnet-thing IGN commented, on Neogaf, were everyone know is the best place to find out about things concerning Jaffe.

But from what I understood reading the original article when I did, Joystiq didn't refer to Gaffe's game. Their problem were that a developer had the nerve to adress the issues made by the godalmighty reviewers, and decided to portray him in a much worse light than he'd manage himself.

Needless to say, half the userbase of Joystiq came over to Jaffe's website and commented, using the exact same wording as in the article at Joystiq, since most people here dosn't seem to have a brain to make up their own insults.

The victims here ain't Jaffe, or Joystiq, it's the people who enjoyed going at Jaffe's blog and read about his everyday actions at a developers office.

He's kept us updated during the development-progress, by releasing the design-papers of the game, and showing us how they implemented them.

Then he kept us updated with live-blogging during the beta-testing of the game, how the beta-testing worked.

And stuff like that until he kept us updated on how he perceived the 3 first reviews of the game, how he was very happy with the two first reviews, and what he liked about them in addition to the score, he also said why he didn't like the last one (offcourse in addition to the 6.4 score), he did say it were OK not to like the game, but he would like to know more about why they dropped the score so much, since he were very proud of the game.

Then Joystiq called him a winey little sissy who were struggeling to keep his favourite doll out of a garage-sale, just to get more hits, and more advertisement money probably, atleast there weren't anything newsworthy in the article.

David Jaffe however got 3 times the usual commenters, wich basically parroted the same thing as Joystiq in his blog under comments, also without referring to anything of Jaffe's text.
I wouldn't bother going out of my way getting closer to the fans/customers either, if I were in Jaffe's position either.
It's simply not worth it, especially if it draws the general Joystiq userbase to him.

RE: 58.

I've been programming professionally (not game related) for about 8 years now. Practically every day I'm re-writing or creating new and innovative ways to improve services for my employer's customers. Many of the things I've authored are seen or used directly by hundreds of thousands of people. I'm very good at what I do.

However, I don't walk around with David's cocky-ass attitude because:

1)Someone signs my paychecks. Someone who makes much more than I do.
2)I like having paychecks.
3)I get paid to design and implement the things that I do. It's my fucking job.

David's job is to make games. If he wants to rant about whatever, far be it from me to say no. If he wants to act the fool he needs to understand that there are consequences. Lots of other people are waiting for his job and can more than likely do it as well or better than him.

Humility is a good thing.
