The Japanese market likes escapist games. The Western market wants extended reality. A subtle difference.

soulbreather, simple econimics says that it will be a long time (longer than the Xbox 360) before the PS3 has a dearth of good games. There is not a wide enough user base for a company to take a gamble on a new IP. Sure there may be some sequels, sports games or ports of 360 games, but very few original exclusives. Just because it has the power to do just about anything, it's the software that makes it work and that will continue to be lacking.

Remember the PS2 didn't win because of power, it won because it had the most games. It doesn't even have to be the best games, just a lot of variety and some AAA titles.

I have to agree with him up to this point. I bought my Wii on launch and havn't played it since December. Nothing that interests me has come out. In the mean time, I've been playing a lot of Gears of War, Rainbow 6, Crackdown, a handfull of XBLA games (Castlevania SOTN, Boom Boom Rocket, and most recently Settlers of Catan to name just a few of the 15 arcade games I've been persuaded to buy). Did I mention Gears of War? I can't get enough of that game.

So, while I love the IDEA of the Wii, nothing has really lived up to the hype yet. I say yet because I still have high expectations for Mario, metroid, and Smash, which are really the sole reasons I bought the system (I believed Nintendo's lies that they would actually be out at or around launch, silly me!)

Of course 360 has better games..Wii's still playing catch up.
It's also personal taste. I'm not all that interested in them with the exception of XBLA, Dead Rising, and Gears.
It IS getting more and more PS3 exclusives, so it probably will win my heart in the end.

Again, 1 part honesty, 1 part being on MS's payroll

take it with a grain of salt

personally, only 360 fare that interests me is Dead Rising, Kameo, and the upcoming Mass Effect and Banjo Threeie

its all about personal taste...

So... the better, more interesting console isn't the one that is going to reach the most people or the one with the most power? The console we should be developing for is the one that has the best competitors for gamers' money? That doesn't make much sense.

The 360 has better games simply because it's been on the market longer. Oh and Sakaguchi, it doesnt matter if you have no intentions on making a game for the Wii, upper management will force you. Just ask Shinji Mikami about RE4

Well yeah. the 360 has been out longer. This is coming from a nintendo fanboy too.

The only games out right now that I'm interested in are Zelda (beat it), Super Paper Mario, Maybe SSX Blur, and (soon?) Spiderman 3. All Wii owners are just waiting for Smash, Galaxy, and Corruption to drop in in fall.

On the other hand, I plan to get a 360 very soon (almost all my friends have them now >_>) and planning to buy Crackdown, Gears, catch up on Halo 2, and Lost Planet.

Mel: Sakaguchi doesn't have upper management anymore. He got Kutaragi'd out of Square.

@ natef (#4) - Hey, I am starting to think I have that Tyler Durden thing going...I agree 100% - I bought the Wii at launch right before going to my brother's house and playing Gears for the fist time. The next day, I was at the local electronics store making my second console purchase within two weeks. The Wii (which I bought for the same reasons that you did - Metroid, Smash, Etc.) has been collecting dust, while I am afraid my Gears of War disc is going to melt...

I am starting to think that Gears of War attracts the "middle-of-the-road" gamer - the ones that aren't casual enough to accept sh!tty games like most that have been released for the Wii, while not hard-core enough to release the other half of the sh!tty games that have been released for the Wii...

@ Dorian

I have a 360 and a Wii. My Wii gets most of my attention now.

Gears was only good on the single player, but I think the multiplayer aspect is just downright awful. Seriously, I don't think I've ever ONCE had fun with it. Which keeps me from getting those damned achievements.

But remember that Nintendo knew that the Wii wouldn't be your only system. They speculated that you would have the Wii and one other next gen console.

So in the end... Nintendo wins.

Hmm, Maybe some people don't want tons of cutsey games with primary colors.. they want.. I dunno, FUN games..

It works both ways. "Fun" is Subjective. I played Gears, and I had Fun. I played Crackdown.. and as much as I didn't want to admit it... I had Fun... (Oh c'mon how can you make a game with no story line, no real mission objectives, 'cept go around and kill things.... but god damn was i unable to put that game down)

I'm alos finding PoP fun and... oddly enough Red Steel. I got bored of Super Paper Mario.... it's cute.. but wen most puzzles seem to be "Switch to mario and go 3D" it makes me feel like.. well... bored.

But again.. fun is Subjective.

Just wait until the Wii has been out for well over a year. Then we'll see who has better games. All I see is more FPS games for the 360, just like microsoft, not being innovative.

'All I see is more FPS games for the 360,'

thats funny, because all i see for the wii are movie tie ins and minigame collections. the argument works both ways, but TBH, im not seeing the whole ' 360 is all fps's lol' thing, i have 8 360 games (not counting arcade) the only FPS i own is gears..i suppose you could stretch to oblivion if you really wanted to.

Compare that to the wii..i have 4 games, three are minigame collections, one is zelda.

sakahguchi has a point, doesnt mean he will be right forever though

I agree with the whole fun argument many people complain about this system or that not having games but the truth is all three have some fun games. You personally may not like then but i hate people knocking each other about it.

I only have a wii but i've had fun with a good many games. Elebits, Ssx blur, excite truck, trauma center, zelda, sonic [most of the time], paper mario, and oh yes even red steel. that game is a lot better than people give credit. Notice the mix of 1st and 3rd party games.
Some times i wonder if people are actually trying any of these games to see if they might like them.

Hey, 360 may play like pumpkin pie, but I'd never know 'cause I wouldn't play the mother-fu**er.

I'm one of the unlucky people who get sick playing FPS games, so most of the best 360 games are a no-go for me. The 360 is for the hardcore FPS fan. Acheivements are made for hardcore gamers. Online play is for hardcore gamers. I'm too much of a casual gamer to get into that stuff anymore. I really wish that stuff was around when I was younger, though.
