hmm, DS version looks SLIGHTLY better than GBA version. Is this really a surprise?

Just look at Pokemon on GBA and DS. ;)

Ever since the Blue Roses engine debuted for the GBA I was impressed.

There was also RE for the original GameBoy (unreleased as well). Frankly I was surprised that Capcom would ever think of trying to do that. :P

i bet what really killed this game was the cost of the cartridge. if this game came out, it would have been the biggest GBA game ever. that wouldn't have been good for capcom since they would have to eat the cost.

You guys do realize that these games are meant to be "ports" of the PS versions... hence the graphics of Deadly Silence not being much about the RE2 port to GBA. :)

The GBA game only had one character on the screen. I'm sure once you have a zombie or two in the same room, you'd see a drastic drop in framerate, or character detail.

I remember seeing a lot of tech demos using this engine and others back in the gba days. This one looks like the character is the only model, the environment being static slides (like tony hawk), could have worked out alright.

Were either of these games anything like the Game.Com version of Resident Evil that was released? Given how much Capcom was willing to support new platforms I wouldn't be surprised if there weren't similarities.

I imagine they dropped this game once the awesomeness that was RE on the Game.com was unleashed.

RE2 is still the scariest one in the series...for shock thrills anyway. Interrogation room anyone? I think I lost a year of my lifespan after that scene.

Both versions are actually pretty amazing. I'm impressed they tried to be so faithful with the GBC version. RE relies on a sense of claustrophobia, and that's not easy to pull off on such limited hardware.

They could have taken the easy way and just made some lousy top-down puzzler or side-scrolling shooter.

Raylight did some pretty good work in its time. Prior to this, there was footage on their web site of a GBA tech demo that looked very similar to the first Resident Evil. That was pretty awesome, but this is just unbelievable!

The following has the AFAIK tag, ok?

There's the Eliza version of Resident Evil (also called 2.5) of which i have seen a french site devoted to photos and captures. Some parts of the story made to codename Alexa and the Resident Evil 2 movie.

The team then developed a concept so strange to the series that became ultimately Devil May Cry.

Next up is the Ghost and Chains version (also called Resident Evil 3.5). This one looked pretty scary, and i really wanted it to become some other game... but alas.

The GBA RE2, while very impressive, was just a tech demo, never intended to be a full, released game.

Still... Makes you wonder... What if? What if they tried to actually port RE2 to GBA? Well, for one, it'd be severely limited compared to the PS1 version (no voices and FMVs, methinks). For two, the controls would be simplified due to the lack of buttons (but, then again, they were gonna try and put RE1 on GBC, which lacked the shoulder buttons, so it might not have been that big of an issue).

And even though all the areas would be prerendered (just like the original), would there be enough space for all of the RE2 content? The largest of GBA games is 256Mbit (32MB).
... Maybe it would fit. The N64 version was 64MB, and it had pretty much everything the PS1 version did (though, the videos were of poorer quality).
... So, eh... who knows?

If Someone Can Start A Petition On A Forum, And Get At Least 5 Thousand Signatures Stating That They Would Purchase RE2 For The GBA Or DS, I'm Sure Nintendo/Capcom Will Give It 1 more shot (Perhaps). A lot Of Video Game Sequels Are Actually Done This Way, Capcom And Other Companies, Just don't Tell Pple That. But what We Really Need Is A RE2 And 3 REmake. Yeah, That Would Be Nice ;o
