I don't see how this is a gimmick, Fernando Rocker... seeing as the camera has other uses than just playing cards.

@Anorhc

And the Wii-mote is more than a waggle-stick.

What's your point?

Looks... damn neat actually. As a card battling person myself, I'd love to see this in action. My only concern is that the actual gameplay would be unbalanced. After all, it doesn't appear to have an in depth system in place but that's what I thought about Triple Triad...

wait... Triple Triad.... SquareEnix? Your move....

"we're also worried of the nominal fees we'd pay building our super deck."

Normally I would agree but this game doesn't appear to have support cards or spells or mana or anything other than the monsters. BUT, if this truly is a concern, just take the patented Sheppy route of building a custom deck.

1. Get a hold of a dealer direct seller of card cases.

2. Order a full case of whatever.

3. If you cannot achieve a competant deck in 36 packs, then the fates have conspired against you and merely drive a huge pendulum through their heads, go back in time before you bought that case of cards, and kill yourself to retrieve that $60 back...

I would just put down the baddest card ever and then hold a vibrator against it so it would shoot rapid fire, duh.

Are these cards going to start taking over the world? Because I really suck at this card battling shit, and I don't want to have to Card battle a 13 year old for the fate of the world. Other than that, the game looks pretty slick.

Hehe, I bet you could always just print the cards out on paper I would think. It is all visual, I doubt they are going to use a State-of-the-art verification system that the cards are real...

Either way, I think this game actually looks pretty nifty. I'm usually a big proponant against stupid gimmicky addons like cameras but this is a gimmcky addon I want because of this game haha. I bought my gimmicky xbox vision because of the facial recognition crap in R6:Vegas. Gimmicks you can choose to buy are always nice things to have :) *hugs his GH controller*

Im liking this idea, and with the multi-colored barcodes we saw recently, they can put a ton of information on these cards. However, I don't really see the payoff in watching your character "act out" the actions on the card. It doesn't offer any reward other than "that looks cool". If the decks work without the camera, then you don't have much of a reason to keep looking up at your tv. And if the decks require the camera to play then you are constantly glancing over at your tv for validation. There is the possibility of some really cool executions here, I'm just not seeing it yet.

I think it looks pretty sweet.

If and when I get a PS3, this is something I'll pick up.

Conceptually, this is amazing. I need some understanding of how I play other people that aren't actually in my house though. :)

@3.

It's a game, not a gimmick my friend. If you don't like it, or if it's not in your taste (it's not in mine...), then just shut it...We've never seen this kind of functionality before.

This is pretty cool stuff...not $600 cool, but cool nonetheless.

I'm guessing the stuff on the top and bottom of the card is what triggers the graphics?

Wonder how easy that is to recreate...

If you don't think that video was great then you are not nerdy enough to read joystiq blogs. Move along.

Just for the people who are saying that we haven't seen this functionality before, or that this is impressive technology, this is actually fairly dated technology.

This is something we've done, with several different projects, here at Georgia Tech, with laughable budgets and limited resources. Compared to some of the things we've done, it really isn't all that impressive.

It is cool, though, as an addition to a card game that some people would play anyway.

It looks like there could be single player to this also. I always thought it was for dueling multiplayer.

Ken, the funny thing is, nobody on this thread said the Wiimote is a gimmick. But of course, if you're defending it from that, maybe it has a bit of truth in it.

Oh, and Ken. How come you don't get anorhc's point? It's as easy as reading a "for dummies" book. The camera has many purposes, not simply card games; therefore, it is not a gimmick (hint: read the definition of gimmick). Comprende?

I'm a Ninty boy through and through. But I have to say that this looks SWEET.

I sometimes just wish Sony would completely mess up the PS3. That way Wii could get the few cool things like this that Sony has.
