Two Tron games head to XBLA, we get depressed
Sure, you could be excited that Disney has announced arcade versions of Tron and Discs of Tron are coming to Xbox Live Arcade at some unspecified time this summer. You could be jazzed that Backbone is throwing in online multiplayer and updated graphics with the releases, but we just can't seem to get there. Maybe it's because these games come 25 years after Tron ignited the imaginations of 1982 cavemen who hadn't even heard of the internet and we've fallen woefully short in making their neon-drenched dreams reality.Think about it. It's been two-and-a-half decades now, and the closest we've come to being digitized by a radical laser, assigned an identity disc and being forced to compete in gladiator-style games that may or may not result in our termination is waving around a white stick. Forget the MCP, we haven't even reached the technological sophistication of the VR Troopers -- and they were awful. So go ahead, feel free to enjoy the games of the past. We'll be too busy feeling guilty that our present is also some 1982 movie goer's future.

one of my most prized possessions is a fully restored Tron Arcade cabinet.....and it looks so awesome in my living room

That picture looks like Peter Griffin when they did a Tron spoof in an episode.
minus_273 @ May 3rd 2007 11:35AM
nooo not that picture. at least they didnt show him from in front. It was a guy on slashdot who decided to make a tron constume for some convention .. three words or horror.. male camel toe...

Yes... Understood. Now living in 'the future,' but still no jetpacks. Feels like we might be closer to having an MCP than jetpacks...

You think that's depressing? Try watching Back to the Future 2

This is the best tron game ever made.

Dear god, online multiplayer Discs of Tron is going to kick so much ass!!! If they're smart, they'll release both games together, like Atari did with Centipede and Millipede.

Any picture but that... my eyes they burn!

I know its an old game but i still love playing the flash Lightcycle Tron games that come up from time to time. It's great fun playing PvP with the timing it takes to trap someone into the corner or escape from one yourself.
If I can play the Lightcycle game multiplayer then I'll definitely be getting it :)

I'm still patiently waiting for the sequel to the movie.

OK.. this is really, really cool, if you ask me. I spent way too much time with Tron in the arcades and to this day I'm still drawn back to Discs of Tron. This I'll definitely pick up!

pfff LOL @ VR Troopers...we are VR!

Awesome! I was always disappointed that I never had an easy way to play either Tron or Discs of on MAME due to the spinner control. I always loved these games so it's cool to see them coming our way.
Oh and that Tron guy was recently on Attack of the Show! to help rate the YouTube Star of the Moment, and man was he a fucking prude. Annoying beyond belief, but then you can probably tell that without actually having to listen to the guy.
Advanced Arcade @ May 3rd 2007 5:19PM
Ok. I own both Tron and Discs of Tron. They are both great games. On Xbox, not so good. There is NO way to duplicate the controls. Tron has a spinner and Discs has a spinner that you push/pull up and down. Good luck with that.

Hahah...i'm sorry man....i didn't think male camel toe was possible..till now...
at least i'm saving a few bucks because i'm not eating lunch today. :O~~~~

I gotta agree with Advanced Arcade: the controls are what make the arcade games. Discs of Tron, especially, would be so different to play that it's almost a new game without the special controller.
