Gamers know who they think is the most innovative company in the space today, but what do the old fogies atop the corporate ladder think? BusinessWeek and Boston Consulting Group teamed up to ask senior executives who they thought the most innovative companies are. This list isn't a strict gaming list, so answers may not jive with the gaming populace at large.Microsoft ranked #5 for their software innovations, however there was no mention of the innovative Xbox Live or even the Xbox 360 in general -- wonder why? Sony ranked #10 for trying to "turn its PlayStation 3 console from living-room box to virtual gateway, it created a 3D online world that simulates the real one." Apparently Second Life clones are innovative, but at least the PS3 was mentioned for Sony. Then, falling way, way, way behind in the fogy executive mind is Nintendo at #39 for "targeting consumers of all ages. Its best brains have called on game creators to go beyond game sequels."
Once again, this isn't a gamer based list, made crystal clear by Nokia, creators of the game taco, being ranked at #13. If gamers were making the list of innovation it would have to be a battle between Xbox Live, waggle controls and the sleek black box of future potential.
