Man tries to steal PS3, gets Xbox 360 instead
Apparently a criminal in the UK walked into a Blockbuster store and demanded a PlayStation 3 at gunpoint (they sell consoles there?!) and upon being told they didn't have any, he asked for an Xbox 360 instead. He ended up walking out with that, a few games, and some cash from the register.
What cracks us up is what must have been running through the guy's head when he heard "Sorry sir, we're out of those." He had to be thinking he couldn't just leave empty-handed. What if they'd been out of 360s, too? Would he have asked for 200 copies of The Secret?
Maybe Blockbuster should have asked him if he wanted to order his console of choice with a downpayment. After all, he had the cash.

"(they sell consoles there?!)"
No, but they rent them out.

Nice, a "stop Thief" flashback. I seem to remember that being fun. Dark tower was another great electonic/board game back in the day. Wasted a lot of my youth with Milton Bradley, Coleco, and Mattel.

I bought both an Xbox and a PSP at a Blockbuster in my city (Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada). Pretty much every location is capable of selling them and sometimes have a few in stock, but we have some Blockbusters that are called 'Game Rush' locations and they are fully stocked.

@Zertoss the Blockbuster in my town in the centre of nowhere sells consoles. He would have had better luck there. They have a huge pile of PS3s to take away.
Still no Wiis tho.

Blockbuster do sell consoles and games in the UK. They acquired retain chain Gamestation (or was it CEX?) back in the day and set up a sort of in-store games annex. Those eventually merged into the stores proper.

I wonder what he is going to do when it bricks, hahaha
I'm betting he would've gotten multiple copies of 300.

It's Gamestation (recently bought by 'Game') that operates out of BlockBuster.
It seems like Joystiq staff don't read Joystiq :p
Kidding.
john @ May 4th 2007 6:12PM
Wow guess Joystiq journalistreally are stupid. Yes Gamerush Blockbusters have systems. One near my house has like 5 and they are even selling them at 580

Blockbuster doesn't sell consoles. They didn't carry the PS3.
karmaghost @ May 4th 2007 7:11PM
No one has said it yet so I guess I will:
Guess he made out, then, by getting the 360 instead.

I work for the company who do all the CCTV and security for Blockbusters. Going to find out how true this is and have a look at the CCTV footage.
Phazon @ May 5th 2007 7:20AM
@ #1 Really? How much would they charge to rent out a PS3?
