Total fucking bullshit. I'm an Australia, I don't give two shits about their shitty TV and movie service, I don't have the bandwidth for it anyway.

What I do care about is the TMNT Arcade game NOT being "released" here. Total and utter bullshit, how fucking hard is it to give Aussies access to something we WANT to pay for?

Online distribution is supposed to get rid of all this shit, but here we are, still getting fucked in the ass.

This is lame. They never released a viva pinata demo in canada, so I went onto the ol silver US account and downloaded it. I liked it so I bought it. IF I could not do that, then I never would of bought the game. This is going to hurt microsoft.

I have never used my other local accounts tho. So I dont think its that big a deal.

Oh no, I didn't hop on the hate bandwagon! People will say I don't know what I'm talking about, even though I actually read the WHOLE POST on Gamerscore Blog! I like how "reporters" pick and choose what parts of a story to report.

God that cat is fugly, I can't stand them myself. I fail to understand why grown men get obsessed with Cats and have to post pictures of them everywhere on the net (mostly, it seems, men who are in IT or related industries).

What's wrong with a good, honest Dog? :)

www.4chan.org

That site is where the funny cat pics spawned. It's nicknamed: "CAT-urday" and people just post pictures of cats with comments on them.

It's funny, and if you don't laugh you have no soul.

Yeah. I went there.

They don't fit the schedules of many, many computer related fields. Personally, I literally grew up with my own cat. Like, I got it when I was three, had her until I was 27. Also had a dog. Dogs were a lot of work. My current cat, despite being spoiled, I can, at my own volition, leave her food, water, clean the pan, and leave town for the weekend. Gotta make arrangements for a dog.

sheppy,

You're right. That and, with a cat (no dog), you can actually go out to your backyard barefoot and enjoy the grass between your toes.

And not have to worry about dog shit.

I don't know.

In my opinion, pets should stay on the ground where they belong. They don't belong on tables, counter tops, chairs, dressers, and don't fucking try to jump on top of my floor standing speakers.

Sorry, little rant.
One of the reasons why my fiance's cat is no longer with us.

I'll answer the question for Matthew Mac ,Ludwig:

"Some of our contracts and agreements with content partners, particularly in the area of entertainment, restrict in which countries we may make certain content available."- a small excerpt from the Gamerscore Blog post that lists a lot more reasons why they've added the international security.

So I think if Microsoft wants to keep giving us TV/Movie content , they probably gotta play by whatever rules the studios want. If that means tightening the noose, so we all don't get screwed, Australia is just gonna have to chill. Your blog never mentions that the guys who provide the content (Viacom, Warner Bros., Lionsgate etc) have a lot to say about what countries get what subject matter.
And just to turn the blade a little harder you say how Microsoft has no problem renewing your Gold account. Which is great considering , 1) XBL is primarily a gaming service and 2) 100% under control of Microsoft.

Actually, did research a long time ago and found out why this was a common thing for cats and not dogs. Dogs, in the wilderness, usually track prey much better vertically than horizontally. This is always why they outperform cats in tasks that involve tracking items above their heads like frisbee. However, smaller cats in nature tend to stalk prey and reside from tree branches and such. So their horizontal tracking is far superior to a dogs. Also, this explains many domestic breeds tendacy to be in elevated positions since this is how they are hardwire in nature.

Meanwhile, my current cat is a Mancoon and it's body is so tragically mishappen (huge, long, bushy tail.. small head, big body, stubby legs) that she completely forgoes any natural cat graces. Sad part? Had no clue it was a mancoon when I got her as a kitten so we named her "little bit." Mancoons grow frickin large.

I don't understand why some people are siding with microsoft on this one. Obviously there are many legal implications, but they've also not bothered to do this crackdown previously. Worse yet it seems official support, et al RECOMMENDED that this be done for some people with no official support. The end user DOES NOT CARE about Microsoft's legal issues, and if MS expects people to pay money for their services they better not be screwing their customers in the process. It's like McDonald's suddenly losing their supply chain of beef and became an exclusively-chicken operation -- probably won't happen, but many people will likely go to burger king instead for their hamburger fix.

(if you want a similar, recent real-life incident... the Yoshinoya chain of Beef rice bowl stores in Japan stopped selling beef rice bowls around 2004~2005 because of pricing conflicts with their main source of beef for rice bowls)

I understand being upset if you're a guy living in New Zealand who wants to watch Blood Diamond but can't . But don't start saying Microsoft owes you these movies because you bought a gold account. Every movie and video i buy costs me MS points. They aren't included in my $50 Live account. So the two don't have anything to do with each other.

Wel lmaybe they should. Because this issue isn't going to go away anytime soon, the more online stores pop up with media for only X region, this issue isn't jsut gonig to disappear, nor is it going to be fix if everyone attacks Microsoft, because this time they arent' the bad guy.

Remember this when Sony does the same...Because it will happen, even tho Sony OWNS there own media and such...They even are not even above this Worldwide media war.

But that doesn't make them any less relevant. If something isn't legal for them, I don't think they are too concerned about some jackass getting pissed because they don't understand international copyright law.

I'd certainly hope that they care about both the jackass and the law. The jackasses are the ones providing MS with money and a (potential) userbase; Ignore them, and you don't make a profit. The law allows MS to sell products to said jackasses; ignore them, and after a while you're not allowed to sell products to the jackasses.

The jackasses do not care much about what the law says, if it doesn't harm them in too many ways; they do care about being able to get what they want, when they want -- especially if the guy next door can too. There are groups that benefit/are affected by the laws though, and these folks certainly do care if MS, who is supposed to be selling/distributing products to jackasses whilst abiding by these laws, is trampling on said laws. The happiness of jackasses do not really matter to this group.

So normally, MS would need to keep BOTH the jackasses and the law happy to be able to keep sucking up funds from jackasses, which will eventually turn the Xbox business into a profitable venture. MS finally embraced the law somewhat, which probably made quite a few people happy. On the other hand, they pissed off a number of jackasses by providing very little facts as to what's actually going on.

All they really need to do is make a better presentation, show the slightest of efforts to remedy this problem -- enough, anyway, to calm down most of the jackasses that got completely pissed off by this fix. If they don't, it's probably indicative that the number of users going on Live Gold outside of the US was too few to justify catering to the jackasses.

You mean like how Steve Job had an open letter about DRM? That si all they can do and hope that the Media giants paly along...But as Apple can attest to when one of the palyers is your enemy(Sony) it' not so easy to get the others to follow your say.

But as EMI shows, there is hope..But I wouldn't hold my breath if you are in say outside of the EU or the US.....

This seems to be for all content if I'm not mistaken so like gamerpics, themes, maps, game content and not just Video/Movies? How does Sony and Nintendo seem to manage all their content just fine without alienating entire countries?? Or Apple for that matter?

I would just like to see MS deal with the DRM issues they are having. If I buy a XBLA game I sure as hell better be able to play it on any console I want and not have to be connected to live. MS seems to love to protect the content providers copyrights but take a crap on the people who are purchasing this stuff. That's why I will not purchase(rent) another arcade game until this is rectified.

I'm in the US so I can't complain, however I've seen the other countries selection and it is a joke. I would be upset if I were them.. Definately one less reason to connect up to XBL.

PS - Angry cat scares me. That's the look they give before the pounce!

Miles, that didn't answer the question, but it's worth responding to regardless. I'm sure you can understand my umbrage with Mac's implication that some overlooked content in the source article somehow changed the news (tightened security) and our stance ("games becoming similarly entangled is worrisome") on the matter.

Yes, those are some of Microsoft's reasons for doing so, but as I said, their way of dealing with it is to retract rather than to expand. Yes, there are laws and regulations, but those aren't brick walls. Considering how quickly an average DVD release is licensed and spread across the world, it's not an unrealistic expectation for them to put some more effort behind it and thus negate the need for "fake" foreign accounts.

And again, I noted that television and film fall victim to more legal issues than games. If XBLA games were to face similar issues (barring problems in Germany which ALL violent games have to deal with), it would seem particularly odd given how open digital distribution normally is (and is supposed to be). It's just another case of DRM getting in the consumer's way.

As for the Xbox Live gold comment -- the context was MS not allowing foreign users to purchase MS points, even if the games they want to buy ARE legally fine in their respective countries. And yet they'll happily take a subscription fee (despite Xbox Live not being "officially" supported). Just an observation that makes territory control seem more contrived.

I just thought your article seemed too heavy handed toward Microsoft . I couldn't understand why you would think that Microsoft would purposely try to keep content from foreign consumers. In the end they want to make money so , you have to assume they're doing everything they can to sell more product.

The same goes for the MS points. What good reason would they have to make it so non-US gamers can't buy their points? None. Its a problem that you have to assume is being worked on. And harping on it seems to just be sensationalizing a problem they want gone just as bad as Abdul in Morocco.

jeez.. why do these media companies insist on making it so darn hard to pay them for their stuff and get it legally.. its almost like the WANT you to just say "screw it!" and download it illegaly.

Lets see.. i can spend weeks jumping through hoops to PAY for for the latest series of 24.. or i ca just download it all in one night, for free, DRM free.

Jee Whizz mister.. i WANT to pay the guys responsible.. but if they don't actually WANT my money.. y'know.. how hard am I expected to try to force them to take it???
