Wii Warm Up: Weapon of choice

If I did buy any VC games, I'd use my almighty Wavebird.

I still love that thing. ^_^

The classic controller is nice, but it's too small and the button mapping for NES games is reversed. Obviously the person who chose the button mapping for the NES controller never spent much time with NES games.

The wiimote is forced to be the best NES controller, but I don't like how thick it is and it's difficult getting to the start button. Performing an uppercut in Punchout takes planning.


Whatever happened to that 3rd party device that clipped onto the classic controller to give it the size of a modern style controller? That's another thing that bugs me about the Wii: we constantly hear about all these great 3rd party devices in articles that make it sound like they're ready to ship (rechargable controllers etc) and then they take months to actually appear on the shelves.

I use the Wavebird for N64 games since the CC analog sticks blow.
I use the Classic Controller for everything else.

I wish u could remap the buttons for any controller u use whether or not theres enough buttons.

Super Mario World sucks when using the wavebird, but it could be better if u could remap the buttons

I use the Wii remote for NES and Turbografix games and the classic controller for SNES and N64 games. The classic controller is well worth the $20, especially since the majority of the games I get are from the amazing SNES library.

Man, I thought you were actually going to show the video... If anyone hasn't seen it you should track it down somewhere, I'm not a huge Fatboy Slim fan Christopher Walken has never been better.

Oh, controllers? Wave bird all the way... I was pissed enough having to to spend $60 on another wiimote, I'm not about to buy another controller when the 'bird works just fine

I had my thumb sticked-up years ago so I really like the large d-pad in the CC. I can actually feel where that one is under my thumb.

If the game works with the Wii-mote thats what i use. Otherwise its the classic for me. I dont have a wavebird and a gamecube controller sticking out of the top is just not cool. The cord was always too short anyways. I tend to play in short spurts so i rarely bother attaching the calssic and just play something quick and simple.

I used to use the Wavebird for everything, but then I got Super Mario World, and the "run" and "jump" buttons are on opposite sides of that big green button in the middle, so I broke down and got a classic controller. And then I got a 2nd classic controller for Street Fighter II.

I like the small size of the classic controller, but then I have small hands so I guess that explains why :p

Some of the games are unplayable with the GameCube controller. They work with it, the mapping is just all wrong (Super Mario World). Street Fighter II is also much easier with the classic vs. the cube. I haven't played any N64 games yet, I'd imagine the Cube controller would be best.

A Classic Controller should have come bundled with the console alongside the Nunchuck. I've stuck with the Wavebird for my non-NES classic gaming fixes (despite its shape, the Wii Remote is perfect for NES gaming); I've heard some bad stories about button layout, but the small handful of games I've purchased have worked great with it.

Regarding the question: Might Nintendo plan on re-launching the Wavebird?
I don't think so, considering many stores (Toys R Us, Target, perhaps more) have been clearing them out like crazy. I think the Wavebird (at least as we know it) is nearing the end of its life.

I never owned a GameCube before but when I read that some games would not work with the classic controller I bought a used GC pad on ebay. Had no problems so far (Starfox64, WindWaker, OoT, A Link to the past and SMK64 all play great). The wavebird is great but I'm not going to spend 40+ buckaroos on a wireless controller when I can get a leashed one for 10 Euros. I sit 3 feet away from my console anyhow.

Honestly, i have to agree with everyone else, mostly.. Wiimote for NES games, Classic for SNES, and Wavebird for N64 games. When it comes to TG16 games, that goes mostly to the Wiimote, and Genesis games go to the Wavebird.

I don't like the design of the classic controller. Simply put I find it uncomfortable to hold and clunky. It looks like it was designed in the lat 80s.... And one thing gets me. If you can't use the Classic controller with gamecube games... then why does it have analogue sholder buttons, that is only useable on the gamecube..

I used to play VC games until I couldn't find a single wii points card. So I went and got a wired 360 controller so I could just play ROMS on windows xp. The 360 controller feels better in my hands than the others.

I'm disappointed the Classic Controller doesn't work for GC games. Sure, my Wavebird still works, but it would be a lot more fun to try out the CC.

Hopefully someone will come out with an adapter to convert the CC signal to a GC controller one (sans Wiimote).

I just bought two Wavebirds at my local EBGames for $15 each! Not too shabby... I had to ask if they had them since they were hidden behind the counter. They were shocked that I wanted both of them, and apparently, the employee who was helping me didn't realize that they'd work with VC games. Score!

I desperately miss the light gray Wavebirds. I can't bring myself to buy the "50s sci fi" silver model.
