Worst Zelda Wiimote peripherals ever

We weren't serious! When we joked late last year about an impending flood of lame third-party attachments targeting the Wii, we didn't intend to give ideas to manufacturers. Thankfully they didn't slap "collector's edition" on it, or else they'd have really driven the sales of millions of plastic attachment-thingy units. Oh well, at least we scraped the bottom of the peripheral barrel pretty early on in the Wii's life, as this Asid Tech Sword and Shield kit makes you go from hero to zero in exactly the amount of time it takes to attach it. They also don't show how the shield attaches to the nunchuk. Oh, and the best part ... these three slabs of plastic will only set you back $30.
On the glass-is-half-full side of things, one could look at this as a chance to be artistic. Get some paint, make it pretty. Sadly there are no Hylian symbols on this shield, so cheers to Frys.com marketing for calling it a "Zelda Sword and Shield," without anything really Zelda about it. That's quite deceptive. They should probably be expecting a call from Nintendo legal within the hour.

Hylian*, though that's not really important.
It's not surprising that crap like this gets pumped out, but thankfully we have the choice whether we're buying it or ignoring it. I would hope that everyone chose the latter, but part of me knows that there are people who invest in things like this.
Oh well. It's their money. They can piss it away if they so choose.
JodyAnthony @ May 7th 2007 11:39AM
those actually made me laugh out loud.
C. Grant @ May 7th 2007 11:39AM
Danke.
NintendoFanbot @ May 7th 2007 11:40AM
Or you could just buy real plastic swords and pretend to hurt people in real life. Probably at the average cost of an action figure: $10-20.
They also forgot holes to cut down on wind resistance.
Konny @ May 7th 2007 11:42AM
Does the pointer still work with those on? The sensor seems to be covered.
And, yea, those are definitely NintenLame.
Heliophage @ May 7th 2007 11:50AM
@Konny
Just buy a different attachment for the equipment that requires the use of a cursor, like a bow or a slingshot. That way, at only $10 a pop, you can ensure an emersive experience, as with all third party Wiitachments -- or some such nonsense.

:(
I have those at home because I thought people would like me.

Ken wins the thread. :-D

Simply unnecessary! Although, someone is going to get this and put some paint to it and make it look awesome! I guess there is a bright spot to everything.

And yes, he does XD

Hahaha. Konny pissed me off with his trademark retarded Nintendo hate speech (although no one can defend those ridiculous peripherals... too bad they're not "ninten-lame"... since they're third party releases and Nintendo had nothing to do with their creation...), and then Ken brightened my day! That was funny.

These beat those, because decals are unobtrusive and cool-looking. Although they really don't give me the impression that I'm holding a sword, at least they don't get in the way of the game.

Sure hope all this wiiwaste is made of recyclable plastic.

@Ting Lee
"Make use of it"? Zelda doesn't even really make use of it. They don't do anything. They are just (like most of the other wiimote assc.) pieces of plastic that the controller sits into. If the ir sensor isn't covered up I guess you can make use of it in Elebits or even TMNT, but that would be silly...

For the last time. I will not say it on cue! Stop emailing me! It's been 3 years! Enough is enough!

(Was a joke, btw... He's not emailed me or anything like that...)
reppy @ May 7th 2007 4:29PM
When I was really young, my dad made us a bunch of wooden swords that resembled the Zelda NES swords. He used his ol' trusty band saw to make 'em.
It was bad ass. And 100x cooler than this.
Almack64 @ May 7th 2007 4:47PM
@ #22 reppy,
Dad-made wooden Zelda bandsaw swords, FTW
Asid-made plastic "Zelda" wiimote swords, WTF

Nah, I agree. Those things are quite atrocious.

TEH.
THREAD.
And, Konny, come on. Ninten-lame? That's pretty lame, actually. What are you, like, 12 years old, or something?
And... I wish I would had got some dad-made original zelda love, too... ;_;
uagfl @ May 9th 2007 7:06AM
Im a dad and would love to make a "master sword" for my kids. Only what the heck is a ban saw. Man i must have been playing Zelda link to the past when we went over that in shop class. Guess my kids are screwed.
Fox @ May 9th 2007 1:50PM
Maybe if nintendo would just give us the official one they released in Japan :P

The Japan one is kool but still kinda pointless, I wouldn't get it.
andre @ May 9th 2007 7:27PM
At least japan's looks like there was effort put into it unlike the US's :-(
these 3rd party developers need to step ther game up
halogod114 @ May 9th 2007 7:33PM
who knows...next ill bet they're going to make a pokeball remote for the new pokemon game coming out,and i thought of something better than ninten-lame. the nofriendo wii
Nick @ May 9th 2007 10:47PM
No doubt in my mind that AJ Vandyrchuck who posted this "Simply unnecessary! Although, someone is going to get this and put some paint to it and make it look awesome! I guess there is a bright spot to everything." is also the kid who is going to buy it and paint it, but is waiting for the approval of others before coming out with it. Bottom line...that shit is weak.

I use these all the time to mow my lawn.
