Square Enix is poised to find a formula for tackling the Western gaming market (as if Final Fantasy wasn't a big enough seller here). Their latest is a next-generation RPG currently called The Last Remnant, according to the June issue of Game Informer. The game will be directed by Hiroshi Takai (The Bouncer). The Last Remnant lets you choose between two characters: Rush, a more traditional Square Enix character, and The Conquerer, who Takai describes as "a type of dark hero which is a first for a [Square Enix] RPG" and Game Informer opines that it is an "attempt to reach out to American gamers." It will utilize the Unreal Engine 3, which Square Enix licensed earlier in the year. In a first for Square Enix, the game will is being prepped for release in both U.S. and Japan.
For those without a copy of the issue, Siliconera has provided a transcription. The Last Remnant is being planned for multiple next-generation platforms which Game Informer suspects, given the screenshots, means Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3.

That, and it'll be a lot easier to let go of should it take a turn for the worse.
At the very least, it should be a pretty game, with Unreal 3 and Squeeeeenix. As for the rest, I'll wait patiently to see the article.

The fucking bouncer guy?? Christ, nothing good can come of this. I'd like to see console mmos, but Sega's PSU (sans Naka, which is why it sucks) and now this doesn't bode well...

I was thinking the same thing. They mention screenshots and then don't provide them? What a tease.

So we get a Japanese gaming cliche AND a secondhand Japanese reflection of an American gaming cliches as characters.
I areally am not holding my breath for this one.

That can't just be a coincidence.

It'd be interesting to see screen shots of the characters and whether if they are white haired with cat-like eyes...

This will be either the worst game of the year or the best.

I see what will likely be a big budget RPG using Unreal 3 graphics produced by a publisher with deep pockets and a knack for producing well received rpg's. Here's to hoping it is a good-great RPG for me to enjoy on my 360. If it sucks, oh well.
Just think how bad posters would already hate this game if it were a 360 exclusive. 200+ comments easy.

It's the director that people are afraid of because of his past work. What about that isn't reasonable?
Have you ever once had high expectations for a Uwe Boll film?

I agree with everything you just said. This always happens. You guys don't know anything about the game and your already saying its going to fail. Based on a name and one man.

Unlike Uwe Boll, who has 1 piece of shit after another, constantly..., This guy has bouncer... Comparing someone who is a constant fuck up to someone who has had maybe 1 mistake is a very wide comparison.

It's not really fair to compare *anyone* to Uwe Boll, so I apologize. Still, it seems understandable that a pearson would expect the director of this game to direct in a similar manner as he has in the past.
Think of it as evaluating his portfolio. It's not to say that he can't do better, but that it's fair to anticipate a trend.
