GameFly East Coast distribution center opens
On the heels of revamping their system, making it easier to understand for customers, GameFly announces the official opening of their East Coast distribution center today. We reported last month that Gamefly was planning on opening an East Coast distribution center in the next couple months to cut down on the week-long turnaround for East Coast members. The new center is located in Pittsburgh and is intended to "serve East Coast and midwest members." This means that members within three states of Pittsburgh,PA can probably look forward to Netflix-style turnaround now. It's also worth repeating that GameFly really does have some of the most ridiculously good deals in used games on the market. Nothing wrong with good service and reasonable game prices.

Cool. Im in PA, and have gamesnflix. They have a dist. center even closer to me than pitt. They are cheaper, and have movies, but I've put up with BS from them numerous times. Its nice to know I have an alternative, even if it's 4 bucks more a month for 1 less game.

This is good news for renters.
I can't stand the turn around that exists now. I'm near Boston.
And yes, they do have the best deals on games. Bought many PS3/Wii games on the cheap.

I live in the Chicago area, and there was a time where I'd get my games in two business days. I guess the post office re-routed my mail so it takes 4 or more days to get my games. I hope this new warehouse helps.

They need to have their heads examined. Why on earth would you put your distribution center in Pittsburgh? Costs are probably marginally cheaper, but there is a huge population in the NYC area and would cut a day off of shipping for a large number of customers. Boston area would have also made a lot of sense. Just a foolish short-term move.

Maybe now I can drop down to the one game plan and save some cash. I had to have that second game to cover the two week turnaround in the past.

So, is this going to decrease the amount of times that the game never makes to my house like it did when I was a member? The first time they blamed it on my post office, which I can understand since I live in a bad neighborhood, but it happened again after I switched the address to my parents' house (it was even the same damn game.) On top of that, they threatened to charge me for the lost games! This is, of course, in addition to the unavailable new releases and week-long wait times.
I sincerely hope that this East Coast distro helps with all these problems, but I'm not holding my breath.

Too little, too late. I got tired of the full-week turn around and dropped my subscription a couple of months ago. Spending the money on Netflix now, and I couldn't be happier. They have a distribution center in the city where I live, so I can put a movie in the mail and have a new one in my hands two days later. Maybe I'll reconsider Gamefly when they're that convenient.

You are kidding yourself if you think this will create a "netflix-like turnaround time."
I lived one state away from their West Coast distribution center... a six hour drive (CA to AZ). It would take at least three business days for them to get my game, a day and a half to process and ship out the next one, and another three to get the game back.
Netflix gets my movie the next day, ships same day they receive, and the day after I have a new movie.
I cancelled Gamefly cause getting three deliveries a month wasn't worth it. I'm almost positive they just sit on your returned games to save costs (and the fast-return only "worked" on occasion... more they just ignored most of the fast returned games).

When is netflix going to offer games?

#4, Pittsburgh is a good place because it allows good turnaround times for both Midwest (St. Louis, Detroit, Chicago, etc.) and Mid-Atlantic cities (Philadelphia, New York, D.C.), whereas Boston would only be close to the Mid-Atlantic cities.
Zingerhill @ May 8th 2007 1:22PM
#4, I understand that they can get to the MidWest faster, but it's hard to believe that they are only going to have two distribution centers for the whole country. They should open up something in NY and in Chicago. This choice will come back to haunt them.

Was going to sign up until I saw that the new Distro Center only applies to these states:
CT, DC, DE, IN, KY, MD, MI,
NC, OH, PA, RI, TN, VA, VW
What Bullshit.

I just got gamefly saturday for a trail ordered my game still hasnt came at first I was excited then I found out that I am one state to south of the new center (SC) so instead I am going to have to get games from California from across the freaking country what kind of logic is that? They might aswell say screw the south we care for the midwest and Northeast more.If you make a east coast store you should use it for the other half of the country your western store cant reach. This doesnt help my problem at all.they should change it from the "whole east coast" to the northeast as I sure aint getting it any faster. Looks like gamerang will getting my bussiness soon.
Shockgamer @ May 9th 2007 12:50AM
Sorry to the southerners, but keeping the new center northern will keep its turn around times down. Maybe they'll launch a new center for the south later, but for now I might have to look in to resubscribing (Go Michigan!).

Hate to burst you guys bubble but i live in NC and looked on the gamefly package to see if it was going to the new distribution center. I dropped it in the mail monday and sent it to Pittsburg and i still havent recieved an update that they recieved my game so turn around times cant be that much better. Maybe its just that im located out in the country. Maybe their just getting to a slow start
