Am I the only one that feels the PS3 is only, oh so slightly out of reach? I want to buy one so bad, but that damn price is to high. If the 20gb version got down to $400, I would consider buying it.

@Todd

The problem is, if Sony does this, Microsoft would immediately drop the price of the 360 to keep it hundred lower than the PS3. Microsoft has much more room to lower the price than Sony does.

The very second that Sony drops price, fully expect MS to follow suit with a dollar-for-dollar price drop of the 360. The only reason they haven't done so already is that the PS3 has proven that it can't match monthly sales of the 360 at current prices. There is no incentive to drop price.

A cheaper 360 will not only maintain the relative price difference with the competition, but also start to penetrate the mass market with a lower priced Core system.

Man those Sony idiot effectively priced themselves out of the market. My mom said it best: "What parent in their right mind is going to buy a $600 video game machine? That thing [PS3] looks like it was targeted towards older guys like those who are 30 something". She isn't a gamer, but you can tell it doesn't take much to see that Sony, if it does not drop the price and soon, that its gameover for them.

Sony screwd up bid time. They bottlenecked thier own console and hung it out to dry with a $600 pricetag. I feel sorry for the idiots that bought it....oh wait....im one of those idiots. Oh well. Once developers figure out the PS3 it will be a BAMF, even with 256mb of ram!

What sucks, is when your on the final lap of a race and you have to make the last turn perfectly then the contoller signal goes out and you go straight into a wall and lose the race. Almost broke the controller a couple of times.

This is just my opinion and by no means fact, but I think Sony really lost touch this go-round. Last gen it was clear that a technologically inferior system with their name on it (the PS2) could far outsell a (at the time) technologically advanced system (the original Xbox) all day long. Why Sony felt they needed to come out with a be-all-end-all supercomputer this time around is beyond me, but it has locked them into a situation where they can scarcely afford to sell the PS3 for much less than they already are. We already know they are taking heavy losses at the current pricepoint. Microsoft build an excellent system with the majority of features gamers would want but not giving every option imaginable. The reason for that would be because the system has to be affordable to be profitable (and by profitable I am including the sale of games as opposed to profitting directly off a console - which is difficult for years). I just think Sony could have done a better job of feeling the proverbial gaming pulse and being more realistic about their product and pricing.

I'd buy one.

Once they can prove it's worth buying.

AKA, get some exclusives. A lot of them. I don't mean a handful. I mean at least a dozen or so. Then lower the price into the $300 range.

Maybe then you'll start seeing some sales... assuming the other two consoles don't blow you out of the water first.

"...unlikely without a more robust title line-up and/or..."

Sony sees - More games OR price reduction. Or is the key word. All they have to say is we have a lot of games and we don't need a price cut.

They REALLY should have taken out this part. Sony will look at this and spew "yes-men type happy days" numbers to sell to their investors by saying the usual:
"Of course we have a robust line-up. We have the most robust line-up in the industry today..yadda yadda [insert more Sony delusional denial of truth and hard facts and finish with..] We have NO plans to change our strategy."

That's right. The video game market isnt about parents buying games for their kids anymore. The majority of the demographics are quite a bit older. Plus the attach rate for consoles sold to kids who maybe get a game for their birthday and christmas has to be alot lower than the attach rate to people who have their own money and can buy games all the time.

$600 is alot of money for a console, but its not about parents and kids.

If it isn't about Kids and Parents, then why is Nintendo doing so well? I'm 30 years old, own all three systems, but I'm in the minority with my friends. Most of them are Wii60 all the way, with the Wii being the family system. We both know that the Wii is blowing the PS3 out of the water, so I think that you can't just rule out the "kid" demographic.

Also, can you tell me where you got the statistics for the attach rate based on age? I'd be interested in seeing those numbers. As Generation X ages, we are having kids (mine is 2, most of my friends kids are already 5-6) and as gamers, I would think we would be more apt to purchase more games for our children than our parents did for us.

I'm not really a fanboy in the traditional sense, as I was sold on the PS3 back when I believed the hype but ended up getting a 360 instead, later. It surprises me that you guys have signal issues with the controllers though, that's nuts. I've never had a problem with the 360 wireless, so far. The signal's always good and it will warn you if the battery power is getting low before it ever screws up, which allows me to quickly plug in the play-and-charge cable and start charging it while I'm still playing. If I paid 600 bucks for a console that did that kind of stuff to me, I'd be beyond pi$$ed.

It's really quite simple everyone...Here's what "went wrong."

Ken got tired of Sony. Ken decided to screw Sony.

Ken engineered a mega-machine...But then gave it a 256mb bottle neck and a weak graphics card thus keeping it inline with the 360...and to screw Sony.

Ken threw everything into the little(big?) box and they priced it at $600, costing Sony over $200 on every unit sold...That basically means Sony is paying you $200+ dollars to buy it.

After all the screwing was over, and the foundation for failure was set...Ken decided to retire. After all, only an honorable captain takes the lifeboat and watches from a distance as his ship and crew slowly sink to their deaths.

my PS3 would've been worth it if the system, like the xbox1 before it, had considerably better visuals on multiplatform games.

currently, only the games with an extra year of development time have improved any, the rest have suffered and don't even have rumble and many online features.

the PS3 should only be $100 more than the 360 premium *at most* for the added feature of its vaunted Blu-Ray player. if not for that, as a pure gaming machine, it should be $50 *LESS*.

Are you serious about the whole controller loosing signal thing? That sucks. I mean doesn't it autopause or something. One of my anoyances of the wii controller IS that it autopauses when it looses signal, everytime. But looking at it from the other perspective I guess autopasusing is better than controls just stop working why you're playing.

Firmware update..???...LOL... Aint gonna happen...

The problem with the 'controllers' disconnecting is due to Sony using the 'INFERIOR' blue-tooth technology... Research it.. Its not really that great... If your earpiece for your cell phone blinks for a second or 2, oh well...

But online if it drops (and being the DRM people they are, they KILL the connection when it drops), so you LOSE the signal and must physically connect it back up to re-synch it with the PS3. Now, online you will just crash (or die in RFOM)... There are a ton of people with this problem.. One of the engineers who works for me is having this problem alot...

There are TOOO many devices in that frequency range (cell phones, cordless phones, micro wave ovens etc etc - tons of harmonics out there)...

MS actually did something correct when they chose their own 'signal'.. Its in the same frequency ranges, but they have it locked in and it never drops. No ones ever does (unless the battery dies, but it tells you on screen).

Firmware AINT gonna fix a hardware issue.. Sorry to break it to you... Now, the new machines being produced may have been 'fixed' but you early adopters are SOL.. (maybe you can buy a 'new' controller that 'MAY' have it solved), but I doubt it.

Sees ya'll...

As far as the dropped signal with sixaxis.
I had a similar problem with my logitech wireless blue-tooth keyboard and mouse.
The keyboard would just randomly become unsynched with the computer. The mouse would usually still be synched, but the keyboard would just drop off. For a while resynching would fix it, which i'd have to do about every 3 days or so.
After about a month, resynching it wouldn't fix the problem. I starting to have to reinstall the software every few days in order for it to become synched. About two weeks later, the keyboard just would synch no matter what I did. I did everything possible, driver updates, firmware updates. Finally called logitech, and they sent me a new one.
The new one worked for about two weeks, before I started to get synch issues again.
Once that happened, i got rid of the pos (it was $100, it wasn't cheap just shitty), and bought a $40 RF wireless keyboard and mouse. I have had 0 problems with it since I bought it, which was about 8 months ago.

"Let me guess, Jebus, if you aren't running around spilling copius amounts of blood, it isn't "mature"."

Typical....so typical of a response. That is not what I meant by "kiddie" games. Here is what I meant, Mario #500, Pokemon #287, Donkey Kong #243, and the many other BS mini-games that the Wee will spew during it's lifetime.

You go right ahead in having a blast with your outdated WeeCube.
meanwhile I will enjoy HD gaming with better and ever-improving AI, physics, lighting, effects, immersion, poly-count, sound, size, depth, environmental/terrain deformation....etc.

And you get...NADA, zilch, nyet, zero except for increasingly outdated WeeCrap.
A golf-clap goes out to you for owning all three systems...I do not see why, but hey, your money, your choice.

Here are some of the "mature" games I was referring too. A mature game does NOT have to have a character "running around spilling copius amounts of blood" to be a mature game. FF, Madden, ICO, Shadow of the Colossus, MGS, Motorstorm. I am sure some kids play these games but I think that the target demographic for these are adults.

Oh by the way copius is actually spelled copious.

If I really wanted to spill copious amounts of blood, I would become a believer in one of the three monotheistic "fear-induced" religions and go traipsing across the planet forcibly spreading my belief.
