This video is definitely a few minutes longer than the normal fare we serve up, so grab your morning coffee, put your phone on hold, and take a short break. Again, are you listening G4? This could turn into an entire series of vignettes on video game characters.

Too bad its been said that Mario and Luigi's last name is Mario. Hence the Mario brothers. At least do a little research before you make an "E True Hollywood Story" wanna be flick.

I'm going to suggest this thread is dedicated to two things. The topic itself and user-submitted biographies about other old school video game characters. So, if you just have to flame, please do it in the form of a biography. Ready. Go!
I suck at stories, but I'll try. Sonic, after his hall of fame career, plummeted into a life of drugs and cheap women. After the money went dry and the drugs ran out, he was admitted to rehab by an old friend, Tails. He then attempted a comeback (Sonic 360/PS3/Wii), which didn't fare so well. Now, he is reduced to making Cameo appearances in Mario games and at developer parties for chump change. Actually, Sonic's life parallel's that of Axel Rose's almost exactly.

Before the Possum Kingdom was a song about vampires, it was a peaceful place, set ablaze by an evil pig army. So when a dashing, if not reckless, rocket knight by the name of Sparkster chose to lead with his head anf the glint of his sword, the Pig Army was headed for danger. Sparkster would ultimate have to avenge his master by defeating the traitorous Axel Gear. After laying ruin to the dreaded Pig Star, Sparkster could finally retire. But Konami had other plans for the hanging hero with the devastating headbutt. After cameos in Mystical Ninja 2 and Snatcher, Konami ordered Sparkster to appear in Contra: Shattered Soldier as well. While players were treated to his siluotte rocketing off screen, what the didn't see was the Harrier above Sparkster. As he collided, head first, into the jet, his limp body fell to earth.
His spine damaged beyond the hope of ever walking again and the massive brain damaged received has left this Rocket Knight in a tragic position. Those the princess would later add rockets to his wheelchair, he's little more than a minor annoyance to hospital stance as the constant jet roars and thumping on the bedroom walls continue into the early hours of the morning. "I nont unnerstan. I ricket and ricket with nall ny night and door stays, nocking me. Nack in ny day, I ricketed snaight inno a niant ronots snomach, no namage to ne at nall." As the sun sets on Sunland Mental Hospital, a brave hero of yesterday toils away his nights, broken and forgotten by Konami.

OK.... That WAS really well done, but the inconsistencies really ruined it for me. For a segment on the "Mario Bros.", it was completely focused on Luigi. Oh, and never mind the fact that their last name is really Mario. I know, kinda ridiculous that I care, but hey... some of us ARE complete dorks.

"Because of the common reference to him and his brother Luigi as the "Mario Brothers," it has been speculated his full name is "Mario Mario," and in certain non-game sources (comic books and the Super Mario Bros. film), this is the case. However, Nintendo of America stated in the 1980s that Mario and Luigi do not have last names."

From Nintendoland.com:
"How did Mario get his name then?
When Minoru Arakawa, the president of Nintendo of America in New York, first saw "jumpman" he thought: "Hey! He looks just like the landlord of our office!"; and the landlord´s name was Mario Segali and he came from Italy so that's how it is!"
There last name was LATER changed to Mario Mario and Luigi Mario, but it was ORIGINALLY Segali.

I don't think it was EVER changed officially...
"The surname "Mario" (which would make his full name Mario Mario) was first used in The Super Mario Bros. Super Show, and then in the 1993 feature film Super Mario Bros. This was meant to explain how both Mario and his brother Luigi could be known as the "Mario brothers". This surname theory has never been employed in OFFICIAL Nintendo games or media, however, and it is BROADLY ACCECPTED that Mario and Luigi are collectively called the Mario Bros. simply because Mario is the headliner of the pair."

They forgot to mention Luigi's main player one role in "Mario is Missing" and that Luigi's Mansion was a flop (when compared to any other Mario title). :(

Note that they do make jokes about "Super Mario Bros.", Luigi makes it seem like Mario is a glory hog.
It could be interpreted that Mario and Luigi's "real" last name is Segali, but their "characters'" last name is "Mario."
In other words, Mario and Luigi, the people, aren't the same as Mario and Luigi, the game characters.
Anyways, I loved that video. It was hilarious.
And, Sheppy? Good stuff. Makes me want to play the Sparkster games even more (to this day, I still haven't, sadly).

If you ask Nintendo, the official answer is "their last name is Mario." It's in writing, it's filed away, and it's their legal name. Mario Mario and Luigi Mario.
Any real Mario fan knows this.
