EA announces The Simpsons for every console known to Man
Using the license for the first time since acquiring it in late 2005, Electronic Arts has announced plans to bring The Simpsons to Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, Wii, DS, PS2, and PSP. The title was announced at a party celebrating the show's 400th episode. The game will feature 16 levels designed as separate episodes, each with their own unique title animation, setting and story. The Simpsons family are cognizant that they are in a video game and use that to justify giving themselves special powers. The game's intention is to serve as satire for pop culture and the video game industry. Shown at the event were posters mocking other franchises: Bartman Begins, Medal of Homer, NeverQuest and Grand Theft Scratchy: Blood Island. It is unclear if any of these jokes were just for the party or if they will make it into the final game.
A build of the game was briefly shown at the event (note the Xbox 360 next to the screen in the images). GameSpot has impressions from the demonstration. The Simpsons is planned for a release this fall.

Every console known to man? Well of course, it's from EA.
John Doe @ May 9th 2007 9:18PM
This looks bad. Very bad.
samfish @ May 9th 2007 9:20PM
That's a terrible drawing of Bart.
Thomas @ May 9th 2007 9:28PM
WHAT ABOUT GAMEBOY ADVANCED?????????????
BPM @ May 9th 2007 9:29PM
That's some nice cel-shading. Almost looks like a real cartoon, instead of a game imitating a cartoon!
Now, if they actually make this into a GOOD game (chances are low), it might be the first EA game I've ever owned (that's right, been gaming for 17 years, and never owned a single EA game).
Or at least, I'll give it a rental.

@2 why does it look bad? THe last simpsons game i played, hit and run, was actually not bad. I'm looking forward to this one.
zenprism @ May 9th 2007 9:40PM
This looks impressive. I hope it's fun.
We still need The Simpsons Arcade game too, either way.
djsandman @ May 9th 2007 9:46PM
Aparently every console known to man excludes the GBA.
Defenestrator2.0 @ May 9th 2007 9:50PM
Awesome, now I can break out my Turbo Duo, the FIRST CD system, unlike what Sega claims. Playstation 3 doesn't even compare!! Until then, I'm going to continue playing Sherlock Holmes. Sherlock freaking Holmes. SHERLOCK HOOOOOOOOOOLMES!!
pete @ May 9th 2007 9:54PM
should have use the grand theft scratchy pic instead of bartman begins
Zachary Hinchliffe @ May 9th 2007 9:54PM
That's some impressive cel-shading. If nothing else, the visuals are nice.
warren @ May 9th 2007 9:57PM
yes cel shaded simpsons game. took them long enough
3cubedminus3squared @ May 9th 2007 10:05PM
It will be fine if it plays like hit & run. I was hoping for more of a sandbox game but maybe tis will do.
Mark @ May 9th 2007 10:05PM
Agreed on the cel-shading, looks nice.
But come on. Simpsons game = probably rubbish. Simpsons game + EA = Guaranteed Shitfest.
Tim @ May 9th 2007 10:06PM
Look @ the 360 to the left of the TV...look at the size of that....hard drive? Is that what that is?
Is this the long-rumored, much-delayed 100TB 360 Hard Drive? (Retail: 4,000)

@15:
That's a heavily modded wii. That's right, you're looking at the one and only... Wii60!
mike @ May 9th 2007 10:47PM
Why do you think its gonna suck? Despite most tv show or movie games, simpsons games are generally known to be quite fun. Simpsons road rage was a blast (although the loops made it not as enjoyable). Then simpsons hit and run came out and was really really good. I expect this next simpsons game to be good too.
REUYL @ May 9th 2007 11:13PM
But no Dreamcast version? WTF, ROBBED!
Hilarious @ May 9th 2007 11:50PM
uh yeah...let this series die, and no I don't care about the stupid movie. Just bring back futurama!!
Aberu @ May 10th 2007 12:32AM
@3 Actually the drawing looks more accurate to Matt Groening's comic book art. A lot of the animated show is changed a bit to look more cartoony and simple, and modified a lot at the korean animation studio.
David @ May 10th 2007 12:40AM
It looks bad. I think Simpson's Hit and Run was perfect.
David @ May 10th 2007 12:41AM
Opps, I meant the graphics were perfect, the game wa snot. Still a great game through.

You mentioned 2 games out of like a hundred. I don't know how old you are, or what console generation you started playing in, but Simpsons games have NEVER been known for being fun.
Also, EA is making it, who is also known for making shite.
LordPaul @ May 10th 2007 3:03AM
Surely it depends which studio of EA makes it.
I hate EA like the best of em (they shut my old job down) but there are some damn good studios making some damn good games at the moment (Battlefield, C&C, Burnout)
It doesn't look too bad, for a 3rd person cell shaded game, an it does say that they are using different techniques so maybe that level is to match the first series & they are using different generation simpsons for each level
ALH @ May 10th 2007 5:29AM
interesting idea, different animation for each section huh? nice. But the simpsons stopped being watchable years ago. Now, if the game managed to capture the spirit of the older series's...that would be pretty epic
Hank scorpio level, anyone?
Todd @ May 10th 2007 9:25AM
Cool, cool. Love the Simpsons. If the game is fun, then they've got my vote. However, "every console known to man?" So will I be playing this on my Atari?
Microfoot @ May 10th 2007 11:58AM
This looks like a solid rental.
Brian @ May 10th 2007 2:14PM
Wow~~! A LocoRoco style Homer!!
