Look, there's no question as to whether or not the Wii is more powerful than the Xbox (MORE LIKE SUXBOX!!11one!1!!11shift amirite? amirite?). Joking aside, you can't compare two system's potential with games, ESPECIALLY with something stupid like God of War II and any current Wii game. (They've had like, what, 6 years to perfect the graphics for games on the PS2? It had better damn well look good by now as far as I'm concerned.) You can only compare as far as the hardware.

This is probably why most 1st generation Wii games look like crap: they're basically first generation Gamecube/Xbox games. The first generation "baseline" of the 360 and PS3 was obviously going to be higher than the Wii's, but I guess we didn't really know how much higher. Now we do. The Wii's "baseline" is only slightly better than the original XBox's. Hopefully it won't take developers a whole generation to acclimate up to the full "Gamecube 1.5" potential of the Wii, since it's technically similar to the original Gamecube.

The Wii might be under powered, given past history, but by that same standard, the 360 and PS are OVER powered. Remember how, way back when, bac in the day, we could never get our hands on a GOOD arcade port because consoles just weren't up to snuff?
And how now today we've got console games that a high end PC couldn't handle and arcade games are being based off of PS3/Cell architecture.
And you're paying for THAT by plunking down more cash than you ever have before.

That is a question i keep asking myself. Why did they completely disregard all the factors that lead to the success of the ps2 when designing the ps3? Its really obvious all they were trying to do is use the playstation brand to help 'promote' the cell processor and blu ray technologies. But as history has shown, brand doesn't necessarily translate in to sales, as Nintendo discovered with the N64 and what sony is discovering with the ps3.

It always happens. But yes, PC > 360/PS3; My Wii is used when I have people over, and when I want to relax and enjoy some old school gaming. (When Smash Bros comes out, I'll use it to pwn everything that comes at me.)

LOL well these 360/ps3 fanboys keep raving on about their respective consoles graphics like they are the best ever. They obviously don't have a PC gaming rig. Because if they did they wouldn't be bragging so much about console graphics. Sure you pay a lot for PC gaming, but you get what you paid for. You want the best graphics, you gotta pay top dollar. Same goes for the lower end of the market, for US$250 the Wii gets you what you pay for, graphics aren't state of the art, but you shouldn't expect that for that price (unless your an idiot). I think the current state of gaming offers excellent variety. PC for the state of the art. The ps3 provides HD gaming and multimedia, the xbox360 provides HD gaming and online, and the Wii provides affordable gaming and unique controls. Too bad that some 360 and ps3 fanboys can't accept diversity in the gaming market. They want one way or no way. Its pathetic really, as if having some real choices is a bad thing. oh well thats life i guess.

I own a wii and I'm hugely satisfied loved sports zelda paper mario and even carbon was cool to me. with games like exitetruck still to be played I love my choice. I guess thats whats truly important. By the by I'm also a huge halo fan and appreciate the 360. Oddly, when I played resistance I wasn't impressed but to be fair the PS3 probably has some good things comin down the pipe. Just my opinions. What do I know though I'm just a student of 3-d modeling and game design.

The PS2 in 6 years sold over 100 million. Barely any systems are on pace for that. In the amount of time the Wii has been out it would have had to sell around 8-12 million. And it would have to keep that rate. Yet for some reason they are seen as some huge success. Despite my love of my PS3 as a buy and how I think it is very full of value for MY uses, I still think that no company is winning, or will "win". I think we are experiencing a second big game industry crash. I really do believe PS2 had the last good games.

Here are the facts ladies & gentlemen...

For it's lack of graphics, games or sounds, the Nintendo Wii is kicking every other consoles' @$$! So say what you will, you can go to 5 neighborhood electronics stores like Best Buy, Circuit City, Target, GameStop and/or a Wal-mart and 8 out of 10 times you will find a PS3 AND an Xbox 360... but you WON'T FIND a Wii system available. So if you anti-wii guys are serious about your remarks... your all saying that the wii is one hell of a fad! Nintendo is laughing on their way to the bank!

Personally, I haven't purchased any of the new consoles because I haven't invested in HDTV. So why bother? I will get a Wii (if i could find one) before buying a PS3 or Xbox360 though!

It all still comes down selling games. PS2 still outselling it in games. Xbox 360 outselling it in games. If Wii games look like shit, people won't buy them, especially if they own another system. Yeah, it's a fun party system, but nothing close to mind boggling. Zelda excellent and Red Steel fun. Pickup Mario 8 soon. Maybe a Christmas pickup if a certain title or two makes it. A very disappointing system as far as games go.

If I want to save money, have a shitload of AAA title games, and have last gen graphics id buy a ps3. The games are cheaper, the games are more diverse, the controllers are cheaper, the graphics are the same.

ps2 $120 vs $250
extra controller $30 vs $60($240 for 4)
games $20 vs $50

Lets add it up =P
ps2 with 5 great games and 2 controllers=$250
wii with 5 crappy games and 2 controllers=$560

the wii is a last generation machine. technically, everything that we ever see on a wii screen is what weve already seen.

graphics isnt just about more rounder faces. the computing power of the ps3 lets gameplay to develope, we are talking about intelligent ai, huge big worlds, unpredictable scenes. sony has provided the power and the storage space to achieve this.

if you really want to compare wii sales, do it so with its competitors - ps2, gamecube and xbox 180. because the wii does not target the same market ps3 and xbox 360 do.

sales will decline for the wii, at the moment it is a cheap product and new titles are coming out for it - just like ps2. ps3 and xbox 360 have waves of games such as 1st gen and 2nd gen, where what is possible remains a mystery and developers are continiesly looking for ways to improve - that will not happen with the wii.

i remind you, what is the difference between ps1 and ps2 in gaming terms? graphics? more power? well they both reached the 100 million mark. great games ps1 had, but there was a time to move on. nintendo are static.

Nintendo is doing something smart with the Wii. They realize gaming isn't niche' anymore and that its accepted as mainstream media. So what did they do? They made a console accessible to as many people as possible.

Do I want a console that my grandpa or sister can enjoy? Hell no! I'll just sit here with my PS3 and HD graphics and its complicated games and controller and you guys can call me a nerdy fanboy all you want as I lol at you play games with 10 year old graphics.

Half-Life 2 was what, one Gig? When the PS3 has a game that takes up 50 gigs of space and is 50 times more fun than Half-Life 2, I'll seriously give a shit about the PS3. But until then, I won't. Games do not need to be that big. Blu-Ray means nothing for gaming except a higher price. Let me know when the PS3 has a shooter that can even compare with Half-Life 2.

Resistance has barely sold 1 million copies worldwide. Nintendogs has sold about 13.5 million copies worldwide and is about 13 Megs. Twilight Princess sold 4 million copies and is on a regular DVD, so it should be about 4 gigs.

Size doesn't matter. It's how you use it.

I can't believe this post is still going. I didn't even get involved in this one. But at any rate as far as I can tell after reading countless pages from different forums as well as this article. There are things the xbox does better (shading, easier mapping capabilties etc..) and things the wii does better (capable of better A.I. physics, huge enviorments, and to have more things on the screen at once)

That being said it doesn't really matter all that much because at the very least their both comparable systems but seeing how the wii has come out now and already some games look xbox quality I'm sure that by the end of it's life the wii will have better looking games than the xbox. But either way that's not what the wii is all about

As far as this "it's the end of the world, Nintendo didn't update the graphics on their new system and it's selling well so NO console maker will update their graphics again" nonsense. It's just what I described it as, nonsense.

The truth is, what I HOPE comes out of this is that all 3 companies jumped into this (next-gen) WAY to early. And really that's what microsoft wants in the end. They want us to play all of our games on windows. Good games or not (which I don't think the Wii has by the way and yes I've tried numerous times playing them and just think they are boring) HD output is one of the big reasons I haven't bought and won't buy a Wii. Then again I haven't bought a 360 or PS3 either because of simply price.

Using your theory, hooking up a DVD player with component cables is worthless because it wouldn't make "full use" of them.

How do you determine full use? It's taking a signal from point A and transferring it to point B. That is what it is meant to do. Generally speaking , the signal type it carries does not make more or less use the cable itself. It may use more or less of the total capacity or the cable. But just because a cable is capable of supporting an High Definition signal does not make it useless if it is passing a Standard Definition signal.

Component does not equal HD. Component connections were out long before High Definition and Progressive Scan, but because it has been the common connection for those technologies the two have become seemingly become one entity.

PS1 had component cables available. It did not output HD or Progressive Scan. But if you had a TV with component inputs, it gave you a way to get the best possible picture that you could from PS1.

The Wii gimick is running out of steam. Nintendo has figured out that they can make a quick buck by offering last gen titles with "new controls". I predict 6 good games for the Wii in the next 3 years. Then they will retire the Wii and come out with a new Giimick.

i read this article and got this out of it. (feel free to correct me if i'm wrong i ahve been in the past so...) if games are ported stright over but do not specifically take advantage of Wii hardware (eg not translated for the differnet hardware poperly) the game will look like ass. if it is brought over properly it'll look pretty good. taken from here--

That being said I own a Wii and for the most part i'm a little bummed about the current selection of games. specifically I feel like i'm getting boned by lazy developers that aren't doing things properly to get the games to look the best they can on the Wii. For example the PSP vs Wii head to head screen shots for Alien Syndrome i've seen floating around make the Wii look like poop. yet the PSP is only supposed to be about as powerful as the PS2....what gives? are people being lazy or am i missing something and is my invesment just a poor one?

What does it matter how many consoles sell around the world? Does that really influence you decisons on whether or not you buy it? I mean if 10 million boxes of Lucky Charms sold in the last 3 months, does that mean I should by the shitty cereal? I don't know. Bottom line if you like the console, then buy it. Period. As far as the Wii, I do not own one, a few of my friends do and they like it, I just don't think they will enjoy it after playing it another 6 months or so. Who knows.

The problem is that Lucky Charms are losing third party support because Count Chocula just made a huge comeback with its new flavor scheme that's not just for kids anymore. Suddenly the whole family (and whole world) is eating the new Count Chocula like never before, and third parties are flocking to milk the cereal.

Well, for my two cents I believe the Wii DOES have sub-par graphics. I also believe that the Wii, even with it's few REAL titles, is worth the amount of money it costs.

As for Xbox... well... I loved my Xbox... but probably just because it contained Halo and Halo 2.

Halo 2 is the only game I've played on my 360 for 4 months.
