Ron Gilbert (ie: our hero) working on Penny Arcade Adventures
We try to avoid overtly sycophantic groveling here at Joystiq -- it's unbecoming and we drool enough already -- but when we discovered that legendary adventure game designer Ron Gilbert (Monkey freakin' Island, folks) was working on the inaugurual Penny Arcade Adventures installment, On the Rain-Slick Precipice of Darkness, we sorta couldn't help it. That headline was propelled out of our nervously clacking fingers.Like at the end of a hackneyed thriller, we began to piece it all together. Of course! It all makes sense now! When we called Gilbert's next project "Diablo Lite with a funny adventure-game story and goofy adventure-game puzzles" we never even realized we could have just as easily been describing Penny Arcade Adventures, which PA's Robert Khoo described as "an RPG in short" with elements of adventure games befitting its "comic adventure" moniker. We're still no closer to learning when this super-band is going on tour, but we'd wager PAX '07 is as good a place as any (better actually) to start talking specifics.

The game looks crappy, but that first art makes the most kickass wallpaper...

Awesome "Look it's a Three Headed Monkey"-type news.
But please don't ever put a picture of Monkey Island on your page again. My heart skipped a beat in anticipation that there was news of another sequel. But alas. Not yet.
Great to see Ron back in the game though.

Glad to see Ron working on games, but very disappointed its for Penny Arcade. I'll support his non-PA related projects.

I LOVED the Monkey island Series and I love Penny Arcade.
This truely is the definition of a win-win scenario.
Can't wait for the game.

Game should have been 2D point-and-click adventure style game a la Sam and Max (Monkey Island, Day of the Tentacle, King's Quest anyone?)
God, I loved the good 'ol days
God, I feel old.

I thought it was cool that PA was doing a game but now I'm really interested. I still think monkey island is the best game ever made and I break it out to play about every year. I got the scumm emulator on my PSP and play it on there every one and a while.

I still need to play Monkey Island.
