Pretty reasonable name. At least it's descriptive.
ZapBranigan @ May 10th 2007 1:02PM
I just got a headache trying to decipher that. Don't ever write like that again.
Jose @ May 10th 2007 1:07PM
Oh no! It happened...
ComradeTrotskii @ May 10th 2007 1:07PM
ZapBranigan: Wot R U guna do wen this style of writn becums the norm and not the xception
Language (written and oral) evolves and changes with society. I have had teachers tell me that pupils actually submit essays in this 'txt' style. If kids continue the way they are it wouldn't surprise me if some of those words become the accepted norm. I fear for that day.
Rootbeer @ May 10th 2007 1:08PM
Chatpad is my favorite kind of Indian food.
David @ May 10th 2007 1:11PM
Hilarious post, you know this'll be all you'll see when the chatpad starts getting widely used.
Arno @ May 10th 2007 1:09PM
I'm not even gonna try and make sense of that.
REUYL @ May 10th 2007 1:09PM
Now chatting is NBD.
Adam @ May 10th 2007 1:13PM
killed it
BPM @ May 10th 2007 1:17PM
ComradeTrotskii, those students should instantly fail their English classes then. While it is true that languages evolve over time, chatspeak is hardly an evolution. A devolution, if anything. All it does is appeals to the lowest common denominator of people.
Let's not lower the standards, okay? Force people to become smart, even if they don't want to.
chenry @ May 10th 2007 1:24PM
@3 It will only happen if teachers stop failing students for writing like that. I'd punch someone for handing in an essay written in txt frmt
ComradeTrotskii @ May 10th 2007 1:26PM
I agree BPM. I'm certainly not advocating the use of this style of language. In fact I would quite happily kill anyone that uses it.
The teachers did instantly fail those papers which they were quite right to do but unfortunately it is not going to help the majority of people whose only major interaction with written language is through a mobile phone.
Anyway: Dat chatpad is da BOMB I can txt ma crew all teh time now to cuss them fo bein n00bs!
Tom @ May 10th 2007 1:39PM
I don't accept work in "txtspk". Insta-fail. I can't bloody read it!
Zachary Hinchliffe @ May 10th 2007 1:39PM
"now wat about us dvorak users :p"
Yeah. What about the Dvorak users? I switched earlier this year and never looked back.
Judd @ May 10th 2007 1:49PM
Best attempt at translating:
For Your Information, Xbox 360 Text Input Device Named 'Chatpad.' Ok, Thanks. Bye.
Hi. Following the Xbox 360's Spring Update and the consoles new instant messaging tricks, the use of a 'QWERTY' keyboard is all the more necessary. Previously given a placeholder name of TID(text input device), the upcoming texting peripheral is referred to as the "Chatpad" in the updates help document. To find the text, go to the marketplace blade, select the "learn more" ad block, then select "More Details" and "Windows Live Messenger." Cool, hey?
Now what about us Dvorak users?
Jack the Ripper @ May 10th 2007 1:53PM
Who the Hell want this thing?
RangerPrimeX @ May 10th 2007 2:19PM
I do!
randomshagz @ May 10th 2007 2:20PM
God do I miss the E3 Coverage...
Instead we get stuff like this. =P
Farseer @ May 10th 2007 2:29PM
Thank you Comrade.
It doesn't matter if the teachers fail students for this behavior or not. If they become adults (which most of them will), they will bring this type of communication into widespread use (as if it's not already.)
This happens all the time. Look, for example, at our president. Previous US presidents were eloquent and well-educated. Bush Jr. is proud to be a barely-eked-by "C" average student, and you can tell.
No one cares how well you did in school any more. As long as you have the popular pull, you can change the course of our culture. Thus, you can guarantee txtspeak integration into the language in the next decade or so.
Aex @ May 10th 2007 2:54PM
Anyone wanna take a stab at the pricing?
I'm hoping for $10, But I'm betting on 20-30.
Breserk @ May 10th 2007 3:14PM
I say $25 shall grant you a Chatpad. Also, Ludwig, Market Blate?
Farseer @ May 10th 2007 4:01PM
I think they'll charge at least $30. I just bought a freaking 64mb memory card (because you can't save files to a USB mass storage device), for $30 down from $40.
If they charge that much for a tiny memory card, this thing will go for at least $30.
Quando @ May 10th 2007 4:51PM
Price prediction: 39.99 + tax
Name: meh. they shuda cald it iChit.
Nushio @ May 10th 2007 5:53PM
And again, Ludwig takes the cake.
Every time a post here at Joystiq makes me laugh, I look at the writer, and there it is Ludwig Von Koopa(or Kietzmann) :P
terminaldogma37 @ May 11th 2007 12:24AM
So, how do you chat outside of the Guide? I've seen screenshots of a little black box in the middle of the dashboard or during movie playback that you can chat in; how do you open it. Chatting in the Guide is lame...
GWolf @ May 11th 2007 8:35PM
If the 360 had a browser, I would get this in a second.
