David Jaffe's crackdown on criminals, epic games and disc-based content, Calling All Cars, will become available on the US PlayStation Network today. Having seen its fair share of delays and drama, the high-speed, cartoon cops 'n robbers clash is undoubtedly the PSN's biggest and most scrutinized release thus far. Engage in all the hootenanny, hijinks and hubbub online for a $9.99 fee.

All joking aside, it's refreshing to see a dev that truly cares about the game he is creating and what people think of it. I'll get this one after I pick up a PS3 (read: two years)

That'd be awesome/hilarious.

He started on Mickey Mania for the SNES, Genesis, and Sega CD. You know, back when Disney games didn't NEED SquareEnix to be good... They needed Capcom.
From there he pretty much invented the vehicular combat genre with Twisted Metal, furthered the future racing genre with Kinetica, before releasing God Of War.
He's also the kind of nerd you can expect to get drunk with and bitch about poor level design on a completely obscure NES game. Ever see Shaun of the Dead? Ed fits David Jaffe perfectly.

Really? I thought there was more hype about flOw, personally. This one has had more recent scandal, but people were actually calling flOw the PS3's killer app for a little while.
And K.O.W., would you mind giving us a run down of all the fixes he made before you announce that it's perfect now? I haven't been following it closely, but I highly doubt he lengthened the game so much in a week as to get past that bit of criticism.

Im interested in the co-op split screen online. I hear warhawk will do the same thing.

Well, have not personally played it, (nobody here has), I have to take the words of IGN editors. In their Podcast last week, they said they've tried it, and said the 'magnetic' was too strong, so the AI could cheat by just latching on to your car. so the team went back, fixed it, and got it recertified.
does that answer your question??? If not, please listen to IGN Weekly Podcast

How can you dislike that guy? If any of us were game designers/programmers, WE'D BE HIM!

Out of all the developers I've heard he seems fair to all systems. Ive heard him giving lots of props to the 360 and the wii. He seems like a decent spokesman for the industry if he could stop the potty mouth...

absurd, combat for the atari 2600 came out in 1977 i also remember a great nes game by the name of rc pro am which is listed under the genre of VEHICULAR COMBAT! that was released in for the nes 1988.. i could go on... blatant lies.
furthered the future racing genre with Kinetica,
furthered? more like set back..this one made me laugh. this game was terrible, poorly designed, crappy sense of speed again i could go on but why bother, your obviously delusional. get off the nutsack sheppy its sad seeing you like this

"The Bad: Only four maps and three weapons; you can finish the single-player game in about 20 minutes."
That's from the Gamespot review that triggered his whole obscenity-laden rebuttal. He may well have fixed the one bug you mentioned, but I was under the impression that a large part of reviewer's criticism of this game was that it wasn't even worth the $10 they are asking for it (in terms of amount of play rather than bugs).

Combat was a Tank vs. Tank game. You spun through a Pac-Man like maze and tried to ambush your opponent. Linking Twisted Metal to Combat is like me linking WiiSports to Pong. Also, if RC Pro Am was such a great game, how come you never played it? Because if you played it, you would know it was a racing game first, combat REALLLLLY low. Yeah, there were missiles. Spy Hunter had oil slicks. RC Pro Am links are more readily lobbed at Super Mario Kart, Wipeout, Road Blasters (which, to me, was a behind the car Spy Hunter but I digress), and Badlands. In fact, even Death Cab, the game that inspired Twisted Metal, had it's core concept still locked behind checkpoint races much more than combat.
Once Twisted Metal hit the market, suddenly it occured to other developers, you don't HAVE to race cars. It could be all about hunting down friends like in Doom and killing them. From there, tons of clones came about. And the success of Twisted Metal also made a natural fit for shooters.

Umm, futuristic Racers, at the time, were merely repeating themselves. Kinetica may not have been the best ever (that title STILL belongs to Wipeout XL) but it was abreath of fresh air in a genre that was repeating itself.
"get off the nutsack sheppy its sad seeing you like this"
Sad seeing me like this? When have you ever seen me in anything but the most contemptious position? I suppose the only way we'll get along is if all my posts consisted with "fuck sony." Sadly, we'll never see that day. But maybe next time, you could at least research your point, huh?

David Jaffe versus Blizzard. It instantly reminds me of Rhino vs. Baby T-shirts. Blizzard wins, everytime.
However, it has to be said, Rock 'n Roll racing was.. gasp.. racing. Isometric view or not, the core of the game IS drastically different. This game is more like an Unreal Tournament 2003 mode called Bombing Run.

And sheppy, I don't think car combat is actually a genre. It's a shooter, but with cars instead of people. So the only difference is that you move faster and control a little bit differently. It's like saying that Sonic and Mario are different genres, because one is a plumber platformer and the other is a hedgehog platformer, when the only real difference is that Sonic moves faster and controls a little bit differently.

Actually, I think that's true. They should shut the fuck up and let their games speak for themselves. It's not like Jaffe's games suck, why does he feel like he needs to talk so much shit? This isn't high school.

And now to the fun part.
"sheppy first off i own a ps3 so the fuck sony and contemptious position comments just goes to prove that most of the readers here are right about you are nothing but a troll.."
The contemptious position and fuck Sony concept stems from the fact that everytime you reply to me, I get accused of being on a nutsack or other such things coupled with the fact that each time I see you post, it's bashing Sony. And a little news flash, most readers here don't think I'm a troll. In fact, I've battled trolls here from all three camps.
"roots sheppy roots its all about roots, those games paved the way for your precious jaffe to ripoff, which he continues to do in calling all cars."
You know, I could see the causal effect if you mentioned Battle Mode is Super Mario Cart or even leaned on the crutch I gave you with Death Cab. But Nope... your links remain excessively irrelevant. But where do you retreat? "root, it's umm, roots! They lead the path for Jaffe to ripoff!" The saddest part is, with the casual links you mentioned, nothing in the industry could be considered new. It's the refinement of the game that breeds innovation. Anyone who states anything differently is just PRAYING you haven't played their games roots.
I mean, of all people, Rubang had it the closest. Twisted Metal has it's roots more in FPS games than vehicular games. And while shooters are a dime a dozen today, back then, multiplayer against each other was still a relatively rare occasion. In fact, I think the closest of such games to Twisted Metals release was Rise Of The Triad.
"consider your posts ignored from now on. your a sad, sad man. get a life."
You insult me, bash my points, bring up incredibly obscure games to prove me wrong (even though the points were rendered invalid just because it's apparent you never played the things), and when I argue you into a corner, you call me a troll, ramble about roots, and call me a sad, sad man who needs a life. YEAH, the problem here obviously rest with me.
