Officially revealed yesterday, The Simpsons game from Electronic Arts looks to be shaping up nicely. A handful of videos of the game have popped up across the internet (the ones in this post courtesy of GameVideos). The gameplay looks more or less like standard 3rd person action fare, complete with double jumps, super powers, and gliding. Whether or not that's a good thing remains to be seen. However, one thing we know for sure is that the game looks great. The Simpsons uses cel shading to give the characters a cartoonish look. What makes The Simpsons more interesting is that EA has employed a technique that flattens the characters from whatever angle they are being viewed. This helps retain the 2D nature of the show itself. In action, it looks great. Truth be told, short of The Simpsons arcade game, there has never been so faithful a rendition of the actual show. Honestly, I think the look works for the show, but in a game (at least in what they've shown so far) it makes every thing just look barren. It doesn't look bad, but I don't know. It certainly makes more sense than the look of Hit and Run (although I really liked that game).
Gameplay wise it looks almost like a mess, but it's so early on that I can't (or rather, shouldn't) draw many conclusions from that. Some of the ideas seem promising.

Looks uninspired and boring. Not Simpsons-ey enough; too platormer-ey and dull. If there was another Simpsons game, it'd have to be a true sandbox game and not a platformer like this.

I must say I'm pretty shocked, I'm a huge simpsons fan but I'd almost always avoided the games as they were fairly terrible, this does look quite good so I'll definitely keep an eye open for more screens and info.

This looks OKAY, but just the same boring platform gameplay, personally I really enjoyed hit and run because I recognised the game levels from the show, these game levels really dont resemble the setting of The Simpsons at all!

There's only been one good Simpson game, and that was Hit & Run. Although saying it was "good" really means the best of the lot, not that it was 'actually' any good. And even then, it was made by Radical Entertainment, not EA.

simpsons hit and run was so much fun. This game looks like crap compared to hit and run (not graphically, gameplay wise). Why couldent they just make a hit and run 2?
