Crackdown DLC resetting progress for some [update]
Add one feature to the extensive list of new additions in the recently-released Crackdown downloadable content: Making the game forget you ever existed. Reports started emerging on the game's official forum soon after the new content became available that players were logging on to Pacific City to find their progress (agility orbs collected, etc.) completely reset.
Though reports vary somewhat, the problem appears to affect players who participate in the game's online co-op mode and then return to single player. "Agent G," a staffer for developer Realtime Worlds had this to say in the forum: "hey guys - just so you know, we are aware of the situation and working on it." Hopefully we'll hear something soon, but as there's no guarantee you'll be able to retrieve your old data, we're calling this a case of "downloader beware" at the moment. Stay tuned.
Update: Realtime Worlds has detailed a method (posted after the break) for preventing the problem until the game receives its next update. If you've already been struck by save file calamity, however, there's not much you can do besides scold the Xbox Live certification process.
"We are aware that the recently released "Crackdown" DLC is causing some gamers to experience a reset of their saved games when they engage in co-op play. The team is working extremely hard to identify the issue and has provided steps to avoid the problem.
Simply follow these instructions:
1. Sign-in to Xbox Live
2. Start Crackdown and receive new Title Update (if you haven't already)
3. Begin a Single Player Campaign game
4. Once loaded, press Start and choose "Quit"
5. Reboot Crackdown (soft reboot or hard reboot of console)
By following the steps above, this will ensure that your Crackdown experience will be trouble-free. You will then be able to enjoy the new title update features, the "Free-For-All" DLC pack, as well as all the goodies found in the "Getting' Busy Bonus Pack".

Downloader beware, are you kidding me. I think we should be guaranteed some amount of protection. I realize that anything you download could corrupt or remove your data. But just shrugging your shoulders and saying "sorry man", that's just not cool.

Well, I mean the game is more fun to play with all the bad guys around. Just do it over. Its fun. Nevermind those 40 hours you already put into it.

As I understand it, you don't have to have the content, you just have to play some co-op on XBL with someone who does. Probably best to just stay off XBL with Crackdown until this is sorted out.
Or you could backup your game to a memory card.

Sweet! I wonder if you make this happen on purpose!

This thread should also be known as "Do not download the Crackdown Content Until fixed!"

Crackdown, Marvel: Ultimate Alliance, and Guitar Hero 2 totally have the most radical patches dudes!

GUYS! It's not broken... it's "challenging."

It worked fine for me, I had a blast playing all the extra stuff.
But yeah, either I missed a whole lot of agility orbs in Los Muertos, or they all reapeared, which is cool with me.
why not the LS2LS7? @ May 11th 2007 6:48PM
What the heck?
We always hear that MS DLC is being held up because it's having problems passing quality checks.
Then when it finally comes out, we see problems like this?
What exactly does MS check during the week or two of hold up?

I just had this happen to me while playing with another friend. I had 299 hidden orbs and was looking for the last one when the game restarted and I lost all my progress. I wouldn't have cared if I had collected all my orbs. Microsoft always touts that they have such high certification standards and yet we still experience these problems.

The problems only occurs during online co-op single player doesn't seems to be affected by it. So stay away from co-op until a fix is out.

Downloader beware? Recall the bloody downloads!
Jeremy @ May 11th 2007 7:41PM
No problems on my end!
umm....hello??? @ May 11th 2007 8:05PM
...and the #1 reason why I dislike patches and downloadable content!!!!!!!!!!
this is why I wait a week or so for new content (and hey, FREE new maps for Halo2 in July, for all the people that rushed out to buy it already).

1) I wouldn't want the devs to stop showering us with new DLC, but don't the QA teams have test plans? First Oblivion, and now this. You would think these things would come up during test phase.
2) M$ certification is to protect THEM from YOU, not the other way around. Any safety for your (precious) gamesave is ancillary.

I'm really lucky my gold membership expired :D I was going to go play online but forgot my Gold account was gone. Then I found out about the whole "game explodes and kills you" bug.
Saved by my lack of remembering-to-renew-things.

Well what about the people that did get their entire game erased. i had all my skills up to 4 except firearms, and now i have to redo everything. fuck you!!!
