I don't know why they didn't just do a classic-style NG sidescroller. As for stylus only control, I am not a fan for action games. Animal Crossing had it best, let you use either the stylus or the face buttons. I mean for something like phoenix wright or whatever, stylus control is great, but for action-oriented games it is something different. Kirby: Canvas Curse was pretty much unplayable for me because sadly I cannot in fact see through my hand.

This game looks awesome. I Must Have It. Level design looks pretty good. The puzzle elements and the graphics for them were nice. Magic, Swordplay, Cool monsters, fairly difficult gameplay you'd expect from the looks of it. All in all a great game.

Good to see Itagaki working on a game that doesnt girls in bikini's or skimpy outfits.

These controls would work fine. I actually have a tennis game for PDA that controls similarly, and it's VERY accurate, responsive, and fun

So if Ryu only had 5 pixels to make up his body. You would still buy it? Even if you couldn't see the stage or characters clearly?

You know you wouldn't so stop with the graphics bullshit.

#3 - just because it's a Ninja Gaiden game doesn't mean there won't be scantily clad females with huge tits, somewhere in the game. There were a few on the Xbox gaiden, too.. :)

That video sealed the deal. I was worried about how this game would control. All those fears have been put to rest.

@Jack of No Trades

"Graphics aren't everything" doesn't mean that graphics are completely unimportant. If you couldn't see the character or the background clearly, not only would the graphics suck, the gameplay would suck too. However, the gameplay wouldn't suck because the graphics sucked, the gameplay would suck because you couldn't see anything. There is a difference between being able to see things and "good graphics."

Graphics aren't everything, but there is a minimum bar that must be surpassed for something to be playable, i.e. you can tell what is going on. Other than that I couldn't care less how good a game looks.

Holy Shit! That looked awesome. Personally I have no problem with stylus control. But the gameplay looks fantastic. Graphically, this has got to be one of the best looking DS games I've ever seen. Why couldn't Tenchu looked like that instead of the shit fest we got? Tecmo...thanks alot dudes...finally a developer that really shows off what the DS can do instead going for the lowest common denominator, like some mini game garbage or card battle bs.

True, HD graphics is not a necessity. HD graphics add to the overall game experience.

Truth. However being in SD does not take away from the game experience.

I don't see how this is a departure from the Xbox version of the game visually; minus the static backgrounds, which are much less jarring on a screen this small, the character models look fantastic. It's a more impressive technical achievement than Sigma, arguably, and it's the best looking animation and texture work I've seen on the system.

I'm torn... On one hand it looked kinda neat in motion. On the other I imagine just randomly scraping my stylus all over my DSLite, which I have no problem with /coughOuendan

I'll definitely reserve judgment for after I get a version in my hands.

it wasnt the stylus use, it was the fact that my hand blocked the screen. I should try the game again on dslite though, with the longer stylus.

Hm, maybe a really long Mario Kart or Death Junior or Pheonix Wright or Pokemon stylus would work. I figure Canvas Curse paved the way for this Ninja Gaiden madness, by showing that you could make a whole game with stylus controls that is a full platformer and not just minigames like Feel the Magic or WarioWare: Touched back in the day. Imagine Yoshi Touch 'n' Go but with actual level design and bosses, and with more speed and you can do loops and jumps.

If Square Enix made Final Fantasy XIII on the NES, i would still play that shit.

Jack of No Trades,

I did not call you anything of the sort. In reference to "Graphics aren't everything" I said, "giraffe ticks are something, oxpeckers will land on a giraffe and search for ticks or insect pests to eat" Strangely this quirky discourse has been deleted though, yet your confused comment remains intact.

Hey SeeD, somebody's trying to port FFX back to the NES. I don't know if they're done, but you can find it easily on "the internet" if you look. When they're done it'll be a free ROM. It looks like FF1, but has the full sphere system and cutscenes and everything. Somebody tried the same thing with GTA3.

Striderhayasa, I never heard it was a port, but that boss and the area surrounding reminds me A LOT of a similar area in the original Xbox game (which admittedly I haven't played since the first month it came out). So much so I'm inclined to believe that it's a translation of the old game to the DS. IGN says it's an all-new adventure though, so I could be wrong.

Personally, i say graphics are only bad if they detract from the gameplay experience

If hideously bad graphics actually cause me to stop playing and say: "whoa, look at those scaling jaggies, those aliases, or that incredibly blocky object" on a consistent basis, then the graphics are too bad

How's that 'giving any game a chance'? when you'd pick up a potential garbage JUST because it has FF brand to it? It's called "fanboyism" my friend.

back to the game itself. it looks pretty, control scheme sounds retarded and will be confusing as well. my biggest problem is the fake '3D' engine, you can never tell where the enemy is really located is it a little straight forward of you, or maybe it's ABOVE you in the sky?

worth a rent. they will make it easy so people can beat this game despite its flaws.

I'm not a fanboy. I own all the consoles, except for PS3.(price has something to do with that)

All i'm saying is that i'm not a graphics whore like most gamers are today. Graphics aren't important to me. Most gamers today only buy or play games based on how they look, not me.

Also, i don't buy games based on brand.

You don't understand what i mean't about the FFXIII thing. It has nothing to do with brand.

Look at Cave story(indie), that game looks like an NES game. But its really good. Of course most people would be turned off by it, because of its graphics. Its not hyper realistic looking, but its still a good game.

Graphics aren't everything.

When will devs learn options make games fun for FPS's when it dose not have a "option" for autoaim or fine control over aiming or something simple like button mapping it fails to be a fun game to play becuse you are forced with cookie cutter controls..and yes I am talking to you Halo...most pompous controls in FPS history....

Because of the lack of care put into gameplay I no longer buy new and with all the corporate branding and "protecting" devs from consumer input...why do I want to spend 60$ on a 30$ game?

@ seeD

I'm with you. Some of the best games I've played over the last year weren't on PS3 or 360, they were on DS.
Mario and Luigi: Partners in Time is one of the best RPGs on Ds and it's 2D and animates beautifully, Meteos is one of the best puzzle games of our generation and it's presentation and sound quality is top tier. Castlevania PoR, Wii Sports, Age of Empires, Jump Superstars...these games are all great but don't come close to the graphics of more powerful hardware.
-------------------------------------------------

Back on topic, Ninja Gaiden DS makes smart use of the hardware to give great presentation. other 3RD parties should be ashamed when a lot of their efforts look like shit on DS. Nintendo paved the way with Mario Kart and Metroid Prime Hunters as well as many of their 2D efforts but most 3rd parties are just lazy or incompetent.

As far as stylus controls go, I was sold on those after I played Kirby Cursed Canvas. The definitive stylus game. Using the stylus in Age of Empires is the only was to play for me and Meteos is much too slow with traditional buttons especially when you have a ass load of crap falling on your head.

Stylus controls rock!
