Nyko Intercooler intercools the PlayStation 3
We imagine that "Innercooler" was already trademarked and, seeing as how kids love their internets, a branding dynasty was born: Nyko's Intercooler. Despite the possibility of burninating your precious Xbox 360, the Intercooler sold like, err, hot cakes capitalizing on gamer's fears that all that heat pouring out of their Xboxen demanded additional cooling measures. Like, umm, a moth to a flame, Nyko has returned to intercool your PlayStation 3 and, uh, smoke out those rascals at Pelican. Despite sticking to the potentially problematic pass-through design from the original, the folks at IGN noted that they experienced no scorched console action. Did it work? Sure it did, pushing five fans worth of air through the side and rear vents. But all that air comes at a cost -- the noise. But if you house your PlayStation 3 in a small unventilated cabinet right next to your hot water heater and under an electric blanket, thus necessitating a $30 product such as this, we doubt you'll notice the increased decibels.

That was one of the most difficult to read posts of all time.

From my experience buying a Cooler for the PlayStation 3 or the Xbox 360 is just a waste of money.

JodyAnthony, mine gets fairly heated. Especially during BluRay movie playback. But I've never had issues related to that heat.

Modern-day "snake-oil" salesman.

My PS3 already takes up the majority of space on my shelf. My SNES and Xbox are developing claustrophobia.

I've no idea what Cristopher believes an "innercooler" is, but I can guarantee it has nothing to do with http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Intercooler OR the internet...
vozome @ May 11th 2007 11:59AM
the PS3 may not need extra cooling, but it certainly doesn't need to be any noisier than it currently is!!

Thanks faar, was gonna say the same thing. For a second I was wondering if the blogger was kidding but I doubt it.

News flash.. all electronic components get hot. It's normal and there is no need to use these gimmicks. If you want to be sure there is no damage.. put the damn unit on its own shelf or leave it out any rack system.

@vozome:
are you complaining that the ps3 is noisey?

Y'know, I hate to break up the lovely spitting and biting after months of lurking, but...
The Internet is a proper noun. You guys should capitalize it, Joystiq. That is all.

I actually might use this. To have this downstairs on my HDTV I need to put it in a stupid entertainment box. I am taking off the backing of the entertainment center to get a bit more flow, and this will keep it going a bit. This will probably reduce the bottom-heat that it gets. I love my PS3 but if you feel it after leaving it on a lot, the underside (or the right side if you have it vertical and staring at you with it's blue-eye) gets super hot when running. That heat, most of the time, translates over to whatever media is inside. I just like less heat, that's all. This product works, unlike the 360 equivalent so it'll be mine soon.
