cool character design
JodyAnthony @ May 11th 2007 11:03AM
I love Rygar! I can hear the NES music in my head right now. the PS2 game was great too. Hopefully this one will be good as well.

Balla360 @ May 11th 2007 11:07AM
Wow, that character design is badass. It evokes the best parts of God of War and the modern Prince of Persia without being too derivative. I hope this rocks.
Jonathan Tran @ May 11th 2007 11:26AM
Hurling a badass disk a la Cptn America or Xena would rock on wii, and YES, as Joystiq has pointed out a million times, Wii would really boost regular and VC sales by timing classics to release to VC right before remakes/sequels.
Rock on.
Farseer @ May 11th 2007 11:31AM
I really hope they deliver with this one. The Wii needs a decent exclusive 3rd party game that is not a remake or mini game collection.
I love my Wii, but I hate not being able to defend it against the normal criticism.
...so, I'm crossing my fingers. :)
sheppy @ May 11th 2007 11:46AM
Is this really rygar or Magna Carte 2?
Cutriss @ May 11th 2007 12:07PM
Well, considering that even the men in Magna Carta have B-cups, I'd say "no".
Matthew @ May 11th 2007 12:17PM
YAY It's not a port!! I was worried for a second.
Darkness @ May 11th 2007 12:36PM
Whoa...an original Wii game that isn't a port or a collection of mini-games. Impressive. Hopefully, the game will be good. I'm interested to see what Tecmo does with it.
Yourself @ May 11th 2007 12:39PM
I think I just came.
MrBlank @ May 11th 2007 12:44PM
Ugh ... I think the original NES character design is better than this pseudo-anime stuff.
"It evokes the best parts of God of War and the modern Prince of Persia without being too derivative."
Um, it IS God of War and Prince of Persia, just with an anime filter.
Kevin McCaul @ May 11th 2007 12:47PM
I hope they work on defining what makes Rygar, Rygar, and not just a less cool God of War.
Emceay @ May 11th 2007 1:39PM
Good eye Sheppy, I was thinking the exact same thing..
Kye @ May 11th 2007 1:44PM
His body disturbs me.
Im used to seeing the hourglass shape on women, not men. They shoulda gave him a triangular torso, or at least made his hips less wide (or his waist less narrow)
Still, hope this game rocks.
Lmao @ JodyAnthony's sites.
megaStryke @ May 11th 2007 1:44PM
@MrBlank
Guess what the ORIGINAL artwork for the game, which was made in JAPAN, looked like:

Kye @ May 11th 2007 1:46PM
Wow
15 posts and noone has said that this game will suck cuz the Wii is under-powered. Or that it won't be playing cuz the controls are tacked on, or anything!...
The trolls must be sleeping.
Ken @ May 11th 2007 1:47PM
Hmm... Where are all the trolls to somehow spin this into a bad thing?
"MOAR LIEK WAGGLE-GAR FOR THE WEE!! LOL I R FUNNI!"
Ken @ May 11th 2007 1:47PM
Lol Kye, nice timing!
Muttley @ May 11th 2007 2:04PM
What a great week! Soul Calibur Legends and now Rygar. Great support from third parties. I'm also surprised for the mature content. This is going to be a great year.
Aex @ May 11th 2007 2:05PM
@Kye
I guess it doesn't need to be said anymore... Everyone just knows it to be fact ;)

rowd149 @ May 11th 2007 2:32PM
50 bucks it's set in space/anime-style fantasy.
Yourself @ May 11th 2007 2:35PM
If you look at the art posted by megastryke, or even sort of in the picture posted here... he has Cap's shield. Wtf.
JodyAnthony @ May 11th 2007 3:07PM
haha, you guys crack me up
Rubang B @ May 11th 2007 4:12PM
Hey Kye, male bodybuilders get the hourglass figure all the time. You don't have huge rippling muscles on your WAIST. It's like your wrist or your forehead or your penis. When everything else gets bigger, they will look smaller by comparison. Teeny tiny waists 'n' wangs.

Where the "sequels are killing video games" zealots? I have nothing against completely new IPs, but I always laugh at those trendy types whose knees jerk like crazy at the thought of another video game sequel. Moments like this prove that we the fans love revisiting familiar characters and locales, and there is nothing wrong with that.
Rubang B @ May 11th 2007 4:34PM
This isn't so much a sequel as it is a relaunching of a dead but dearly beloved franchise, like Metroid Prime and hopefully a new Kid Icarus or Punch-Out!. When it does well and we see a Rygar 2, Rygar PSP, and Rygar Cell Phone BS within the next 2 years, we'll yell sequelitis (I'm looking at you Kratos).
jfls @ May 11th 2007 4:37PM
The "derivative of God of War" comments are funny. Go play Rygar on PS2, then play God of War and see who is derivative of who.
God of War is suspiciously similar to PS2 Rygar, especially as far as combat goes. However, it improves on and fixes the problems Rygar had. GoW is a great game but it's hardly original.
Farseer @ May 11th 2007 5:20PM
Thank you jlfs.
I've been refraining from saying that for years. I've been in fear for my life. Now that someone else said it first, maybe you'll get lynched instead of me. :)
I remember when I picked up GoW and thought, "wow, this is just like Rygar 2..." Granted - GoW turned out to be a somewhat better game at times, but Rygar 2 was certainly first.
Mr Khan @ May 11th 2007 5:45PM
Sequels are only bad when the franchise has been overly frequent (and not even then, e.g. GRAW to GRAW 2, or Strikers to Strikers Charged)
This looks pretty awesome, its Captain America with a Prince of Persia attitude...
Kye @ May 11th 2007 5:52PM
@ Ken. Great minds man, great minds.
@ Aex - Good one... you should give Jack O.N.T some tips on how to be a real super-troll, just like you. You seem to have years more practice.
Rubang, Nice pics... Im (kinda) aware of how body builders bulk up, but theres something about his torso thats leaning too much on the feminie side... Maybe it's just me. It's been a long week.
By the way, Ive seen some pretty brolic wrists man.
Rubang B @ May 11th 2007 5:57PM
Eww, gross.
DrunkenKender @ May 18th 2007 7:09AM
Just for fun.. here's the original "American" design for Rygar.
http://www.juegomania.org/Rygar/fotos/nes/0/713_c/Caratula+Rygar.jpg
... I'll take the pseudo-anime design, kthx.
drakkon @ Jun 17th 2007 6:47PM
there are several similarities between rygar 2 and both god of war games.
the biggest are both the combat system and way that u "level up" ur weapons as well as the whole weapon permenantly attacthed to the hero thing. if u look at the first real boss in rygar 2, the Hekatonchieres
, it is earily similar to the colosus in GoW2. as well as just some of the level designs in both GoW games mirror some of the levels in rygar. parts of the temple of the fates in GoW2 mirror the labyrinthos palace in rygar as well as the cliffs of madness in GoW which are similar to the Othrys mountains. anywho, enough griping. both god of war games are good and hopefully the new rygar game will be better.
