How Tecmo plans to flip the script is still a mystery us ... and maybe even to Tecmo itself. Aside from a vague announcement during Tecmo's 'Night Out 07' event, the developer has shown little more than a logo of the new Tecmo Bowl (not the one pictured above) and refuses to discuss the intended platform. "I can't tell you what platform we're making it for. But I can tell you that it's probably not going to be on the platform that you're expecting ... if that makes any sense," hinted Tecmo vice president Mr. Inaga, adding, "This is going to be a brand new game for one of the new systems." Ready, down -- hut-hut-hut-hut-hut-hut...

My father and I used to play Tecmo Bowl (and later, Tecmo Super Bowl) every sunday. On Superbowl Sunday we'd have two NES systems set up in addition to the game to Sim the matchup with Superbowl. Ironically, Buffalo usually won in our sims.

It's gotta be PS3, 360 or Wii then.

Haha...and who says that video games don't make people violent? :)

The NFLPA disclaimer was added after my post. Initially the article wasn't clear about that.
Side note RE: TSB - I'm originally from Buffalo. The only player in all of Tecmo Super Bowl that wasn't listed on the roster was Jim Kelly, the then quarterback for the Bills. I don't remember why. He may not have been a member of the NFLPA, or he may just not have wanted it. But it wasn't quite the same scoring a TD with "QB BUFFALO".

Uhh, really though, I'm expecting it for Wii mainly because Tecmo Bowl for NES was released on the VC and football games on the Wii are fun and just make sense as proven by Madden. So um...does this mean it won't be on the Wii?

W/E. Why all the secrecy over this game? Yes it was awesome back in the day, but why keep the new one a secret. Are they hoping that by doing this that people will go out and buy all 3 consoles, Vista, PSP, and DS just so they can make sure they get the game?

Randall Cunningham (QB Eagles) was also missing from the game. There were a few more that I can't remember offhand either.

but actually focus on making the gameplay more intuitive than Madden. Think: WITHOUT official NFL licenses, it'll actually be EASIER for them to make the game more versitile and customizible, they could make an artificial player roster very similar to that of the actual NFL (similar stats, different names), but allow you to build your own team from the pool of players, and teams would be different on a season-by-season basis
If they can build a better football game, they might finally put an end to Madden. You destroy Madden, you cripple EA...

WHY do you need the actual player names assigned to your digital player's on-screen sprites/polygons/what-have-you?
I mean, if the quarterback for the Chicago team is just called "Chicago QB" or something else, but has been modeled to simulate the real guy's playing ability, how does it make the game less worth your purchase than if they used a real name?
And how is it that the little digital dudes can basically stay the same year after year, with no major changes in the way they function on-screen, but you guys will but the newest version to have the roster (ie the NAMES) reflect the real world?
Are sports games fans THAT unimaginative that not having the name ON THE SCREEN somehow wrecks the game for you?
I mean. . . You DO realize that the digital players aren't the REAL players, right? They don't accurately represent what the real guys can do, as they're just a collection of ones and zeroes compiled to represent football players. If your collection of ones and zeroes lacks the name or face of a particular athlete, that doesn't mean he's any more or less likely to play like that athlete than if he DID have the name and face.
What I'm getting at is that a sports game is a sports game. It shouldn't matter what NAMES are on the players or teams; Just that the gameplay is good and represents what it's like to play the sport.
Are you buying the game, or are you buying their likenesses? Because if you just want the athletes' likenesses, you can pick up trading cards for a lot less than a video game.
