This Wednesday: Soltrio Solitaire shuffles onto XBLA
As with the wildly popular Uno, Xbox Live Arcade is once again becoming a safe alternative for those that love card games but are utterly terrified of coming into contact with actual cards. This Wednesday, May 16th, sees Soltrio Solitaire sliding onto the service, offering "a collection of 18 compelling solitaire games" at 800 MS Points ($10).
We feel particularly compelled to tell you about the game's "Voyage Adventure" mode, which has you traversing a map and playing different versions of Solitaire to unlock new card designs. Naturally, no Xbox Live Arcade game is complete without mutliplayer options, and so Soltrio Solitaire defies its lineage by providing two-player cooperative and competitive modes. Why not grab a friend and spend a quiet afternoon playing virtual cards? It's not like there'll be anything else to play.

Wow... I wonder how many people they'll sucker into paying $10 for solitaire. I mean I'd expect a full casino game for that really.

Anyone who pays $10 for Solitare is just lost...LOst.
Live needs another card game like Uno. Uno was badass last summer! And when I say card game I mean somthing a little hip w/hip grafix like Skip Bo or something.
This shit looks like something my grandma help design.
jaysins @ May 11th 2007 5:25PM
WTF were they thinking? Solitaire is free on windows. Also, multiplayer solitaire. Isn't that a oxymoron. I hope they release how many people buy it. Certainly a Live purchase I'm going to be passing up.

Actually, time for me to be laughed at. I bought Clubhouse Games for DS purely for Solitaire and Mahjong. I had a Game.com that the only thing I used it for was Lights Out and Solitaire but that was stolen (yes... somebody STOLE my Game.com...).
Sometimes you just want a vegging game. Solitaire works wonders. Granted, I won't buy this one because of Clubhouse Games but still.
dvdguy @ May 11th 2007 5:43PM
I'd consider it at $5. But for $10? No freaking way.
LZBravo @ May 11th 2007 5:50PM
Whether $10 is a good price depends on the versions of solitaire this game contains. If it has Klondike, Pyramid, Golf, Yukon, Free Cell, Vegas, Addiction, Crescent, Tri-Peaks, Turbo Solitaire, (and others I can’t think of right now) it will be worth it.

I'm rather certain that I'll be buying it, as my wife loves these types of games, and she's become an acheivement junkie on top of it. She's almost done with Luxor 2, so I know I'll have to find something else for her to play.

@9
I may be in the same boat. I personally don't care for Solitaire myself, and $10 seems steep for a card card, but my wife loves Solitaire. So with 18 versions of Solitaire, there's a good chance we'll wind up with this one.
Oh, and for those that apparently can't count, 18 versions is a lot more than Windows has built in. Well, at least XP anyway (which has 2). Not sure about Vista.
Vidikron @ May 11th 2007 6:08PM
Bah... that should say "for a card game", not "for a card card"... WTF?
Diskoboy @ May 11th 2007 6:40PM
Absolute crap.
Jdoki @ May 11th 2007 7:00PM
@12. Absolute crap you say? Good job you aren't forced to download the demo, or spend the points on it.
I think it's great that MS are sticking these sort of games on XBLA. It doesn't all have to be about guns 'n violence!
Personally I won't be picking it up as I'm still hooked on Catan and the new Crackdown DLC, but it's nice that Live Arcade is catering to a wide range of gamers.
Otter @ May 11th 2007 7:16PM
How the hell do you play multiplayer solitaire ffs? If its multiplayer then its no longer solitary and not solitaire!

UNO I can understand I love playing the real world version with my friends. But Solitaire, come on like others have said it is on every computer it's even on my ipods or just buy a pack of cards for $.50 and there you go.
@sheppy
I won't laugh at you mostly because I like that game too. The reason it's better than this is because it is on the DS. OK before you start yelling fanboy I love every system equally so no fanboy here. The reason I think the DS version is better is it's portability. I can take it with me and play a quick game anytime not so with the XBLA version.

You know, guys, not every game on Arcade is made for hardcore Joystiq posting morons like ourselves. My wife, for example, is thrilled ot finally get Solitaire on the box. The point is not whether or not you folks like her can play it on your PC for free -- it's that now they can play it in the comfort of the living room.
mushiking @ May 11th 2007 10:27PM
yeah. FOR TEN DOLLARS!
sheppy @ May 12th 2007 12:54AM
Ratchet, Why would I call you a fanboy? The main reason why I liked the Game.com versions of Solitaire and Lights Out was simply BECAUSE of touch screen. For card games or mahjong, DS is deifnately the route to go simply because of the control method.
sigma @ May 12th 2007 2:20AM
I would have considered this at 400 points maximum. Microsoft just lost my potential cash due to its own greed. This product is overpriced by at least 50%.

In Soltrio Solitaire, play your favorite classic games like Spider, Klondike, FreeCell, and more, or play them with power-up bonuses, making your own playing cards in Voyage mode.
Looking for some head-to-head action? Duel it out in heated solitaire games, or play cooperative with multiplayer solitaire.
Game variety: Choose from 18 solitaire games, expandable to over 100 through downloadable content packs.

I think it makes sense to release Solitaire this week. Casual gamers will buy it, and the rest of us won't notice since we'll be playing Halo 3.
