Today's most betalicious video: Halo 3 beta footage
Today's hottest video goes out for all you Halo 3 fans -- at least 5 million, by our counts. Microsoft employee Mr. Jukes, reportedly the most fanatical player in the company, has created a video of his playtime with the internal beta. Bungie has released the video for the world to see.They also remind the fanbase that this beta is a bit older than what will soon be released for mass enjoyment testing. "This was fully sanctioned and approved by Bungie," the developer added, "unlike some of those other 'leaked' videos that have ended up online."

Admittedly, I was never the biggest fan of Halo, especially the first one. Halo 2 was the game all my friends played so I would play it because that's all they wanted to play (Ironicly I became better than all of them). Halo always came across as too simple (I think it's the games strong and weak point) but with the addition of the magical "X" botton items it looks as if they are allowing more depth without it being a game altering change. I think this is just what the series needed. I can't wait to see the final graphics, they are not too shabby now but they can get much, much better.
Also that item he threw down about half way through (The Wooshie*) is awesome and can add a lot to strategy (especially for the fast person on your team). Oh yeah trip mines FTW...

Its an "online battle game". 90% of the people who like Halo, its people who like to play battle online, and the other 10% is really interested on the campaign mode. Sad but true.

Is that a problem? Why do you care? If you don't like multiplayer just go play Metroid! Sure the game is probably overrated (what AAA game isn't?) but that dosen't mean it's not a good game(you don't have to like it,but you should respect it. Like I do with 3D Zeldas). I can tell you I don't play SSBM by myself, are you going to make a smart comment about that too?

The first official brag video for Halo 3. Awesome.
For my two cents on it, it seems like the jump height has been improved over Halo 2. The guy in the video jumped to some places that I didn't think he should have been able to reach (judging from experiance on Halo 2). Other than that, I didn't notice anything new.
Honestly I don't like this type of video because the guy more or less cut footage from hours of gameplay together in such a way that made him look Uber-Leet. The leaked videos were alot more honest, and they showed alot more of the maps than this particular video did. Oh well, 5 more days and we won't have to watch other people play this game anymore.

Hmm. I'm not really sure why everyone thinks this video is so great. Personally, I think Half-Life 2 and GoW look more impressive than Halo 3 - and HL2 came out years ago. Halo 3 looks marginally better than Unreal Tournament 2003. After seeing this video, I don't feel so bad that Microsoft stole Halo from the PC and Mac players (Bungie was developing Halo for those platforms before MS bought them and turned Halo into an XBox centerpiece).

Halo 3 sucks. GoW is already the Halo 1 of THIS GENERATION, as it revolutionized the genre. Halo 3 is just a step backwards with more of same tired old gameplay. Boring. I hope it doesn't live up to the hype and ends up selling less than Halo 2. Maybe then developers will wake up and stop making all these sequels just to make a quick buck.

Layout of the levels looks very well done and I like how he almost always had multiple routes to go or somewhere else to jump to get away. Should make Halo more strategic hopefully rather than everyone rushing down the left, right or middle of the level.
Anyways, I'm stoked and think it will be a good game. Hopefully it doesn't disappoint.

Looks fantastic. The gameplay looks solid (as we all knew it would be), now it would be nice to see a little bit of the campaign mode....
Those graphics are a huge step up from Halo 2, the detail is great, especially when you consider how big some of the maps are.

#29 Scottbern : to be fair, the Crysis multiplayer videos (which were taken from the pre-alpha version) already make the beta version of Halo 3 look like a last-gen game, so comments like these are to be expected.
I'm reserving judgement until we get footage of the final version, although I'm not too optimistic myself.

I like halo and everything, but has anyone noticed that some of the new items are looking like very similar, to items in quake 3 arena. Laser = Rail Gun, Man Cannon = Bounce/Acceleration pads.
And for the overrated comments, whats a highly played game that isn't overrated, Halo series, Gears of War and Goldeneye.(And yes I liked, and owned them all) All are good, but people always want to make too much out of these games. Just give them the credit they deserve but, don't go all fanboy on them. And that wasn't toward anyone in particular.

Wow that is looking fantastic - much better quality than all the leaked footage. I'm loving the idea of portable lifts - imagine assaulting the base and the defenders not knowing where you're all going to storm in from.

Crytek decided to show off the Graphics- engine code (potential), textures (potential), levels (potential) etc. And remember, the new videos of Crysis look flat (no motion blur anymore) and vegetation is last-gen.
Sorry to blow your bubble, but EA is getting Crytek to sacrifice quite some visuals for consistency across PCs.
Bungie did that with Halo 2 too. Demo the nice tech, then being forced to scrap it all and restart. Remember why it was that "sucky"? Now you know.

I played Halo 1 on the PC and it wasn't bad but it certainly wasn't the masterpiece everyone has said it to be. Masterpiece for the console, sure, but as a game in whole? Meh.
H3 looks like the same game but a little prettier and they threw in a rail gun-type weapon. I know FPS games on consoles aren't always the best but everyone treats H3 as the second coming. Just not exciting to a PC gamer.

The Halo series is for kids who haven't played enough PC FPS games to realize that there isn't anything special Halo and never has been. Any PC gamer who has been exposed to these types of games for the last 15+ years will tell you Halo is nothing new or special. For the console only kiddies though, I imagine they're all excited and giddy and whatnot. As this thread certainly shows....
But for those kids excited about Halo 3, more power to em. I hope they enjoy the game and sell a lot of 360s.

And what do you think I'm the fanboy OF, exactly? PS3? Nope, I don't own one. Xbox 360? Yes, kinda. Not everyone who owns an Xbox 360 has to be madly in love with the Halo franchise, y'know. Gears of War sets the standard. And I'm not talking about graphics; I'm talking about gameplay. The cover system and the strong focus on meelee make multiplayer more interesting in Gears. The controls in Halo are sloppy and confusing using dual analog sticks, there are major weapon hording and balancing issues, the art-style is bland, and the setting is cliche. I'm someone who has played both Halo and Halo 2 extensively, and I'm not impressed, so from one NONfanboy to another: Halo 3 sucks. I don't have to wait until this fall to figure that out.

It's not trying to appeal to PC elitists, obviously. It's trying to appeal to those that the PC elitist (omg joypads suck ass m/kb rules!) considers to be casual, or lesser, gamers because they like using a joypad.
Not exciting to a PC elitist because they're so wrapped up in competition and pushing hardware to the max that they forget to have fun. I enjoy playing Halo, as do millions of others, so why is a game that so many anjoy considered so overrated.
Many say to me, "you should try an FPS on a PC", erm, the point of me preffering console gaming is due to the ease of use with my time only being consumed by actual fun gaming rather then video settings and hardware, as well as other problems that may be encountered. (still like a bit of ol' starcraft though, awesomeness)
Also think everyone that posts just to hate something really should back up why they don't enjoy the game and give examples of what they like better in other games, so people will respect their opinions more.

Oh, is that true? Is that why I, who played Doom 1-2, Wolfenstein 3D, Quake 1-3, SiN, Half-Life 1-2+Episode One, and many many more excellent first-person shooters on the PC, love Halo so fucking much? I was introduced to it with your mind-frame, never agreed playing it until it was released on the PC. Immediately I got hooked, and I'm now a big fan of Halo. Yes, even Halo 2. I played it on the 360 and enjoyed it immensely. The game is just so refined, every little detail is right when it comes to gameplay. It just plays perfectly. I'm sorry if you do not enjoy this game, since I think you're missing out or something great.

#46....Aside from the general overall 'meh' of console FPSs in general....any FPS that is being held back by not being able to use a proper control scheme (keyboard and mouse) will never be 'great'. Pad sucks for FPSs...and I've tried so many console FPS using a pad (Halo series, Resistance, yada yada) and they are all lacking. Again, the console only kids probably don't care since they've never played a proper FPS.
No keyboard/mouse.....no play.

I swear Bungie is just saying "Oh hey, that one leaked video got the fanbase and media going like crazy. Hey guys, leak what you can, it's good publicity!" or something, because usually there's only one psycho nutjob who leaks any kind of prototype material as it breaches a non-disclosure agreement with the company. Not that I'm complaning, but I think Bungie is making a smart move by doing this.

Gears of war is a great game, but you cant really compare it to halo. Halo is to microsoft as mario is to nintendo.
My friends and i are playing halo once again without shields, its like a whole new game and i like it better without them. Its fun shooting one pistol shot into your opponents head and thats all it takes.
Bringing down shields is kinda boring.
