That Miyamoto thing was blown WAAAY out of proportion, and also context.

Keighley: American gamers have bought more copies of Halo than they did of Metroid, for instance. Do you ever worry that you're losing touch with what young American players might want to play?

Miyamoto: I could make Halo. It's not that I couldn't design that game. It's just that I choose not to. One thing about my game design is that I never try to look for what people want and then try to make that game design. I always try to create new experiences that are fun to play.

It doesn't matter why you think it was blown out of proportion. It's that he said that he COULD make it, but he looks for what people want. Well, obviously, people want what Halo's got. So, instead of slinging some mud about what he "could" design, he should take a few notes. I respect Miyamoto, but you should give a development team respect also instead of saying "Oh, well, i can do that tooooo!"

You did read the entire thing, right? The part about NOT making what people want, but rather, what he thinks will be new and fun. If anything, he's acknowledging that Americans want Halo. Can't fault a guy for not wanting to make a Halo-inspired game/clone like other companies.
