Yes! FFVII is one of the most important chapters, and I sadly never played it. I don't want to buy a PS1 and then find a copy, I wanna buy it for my lovely, precious DS! Do it Squarenix! DO IT!

FFVII does look a lot like the remakes, but logistically this would be difficult. It's a lot of information.

The biggest issue I have with FFVII on the DS (disclaimer: never played it myself, mileage may vary) is the large amounts of FMV in the game. Fitting it all is one thing, and another is the fact that you would have to sit through the videos, on a handheld. If I had to sit through lots of video on the DS, I would go mad. The DS isin't designed for that sort of gaming. The question that comes up is: If they got rid of all the FMV (or re-cut it to flow better on the handheld), would it still be anywhere near the same game?

Some quick technical notes before we get too deep in here:
The DS cards use ROM (different from Flash in cameras and whatnot, and more expensive, but faster), and range from 64 Mbit (8 MB) to 1 Gbit (128 MB). Backbone (the devs of Age of Empires and Mechassualt DS) noted that the 1Gbit ROM is significantly slower than the smaller ROM

FFVII wasn't that good. In terms of story, here it is:
1. You're in Midgar.
2. You get out of Midgar and start looking for Sephiroth.
3. Chase him to a town and find out he was just there, but left.
4. Repeat previous step about 20 times.
5. Game over.

Toss in some gratuitous FMV and there you have it. VI was much better, in terms of the story, which is what RPGs are about-- not flashy videos.

Well, Illtron, there was alot more to it than that. Alot of depth in the characters and feelings each member felt is just one of these things.
I'd love to see FFVII on DS, but is it actually possible? The whole FMV and memory thing, could be a problem no? Would Sony even allow it to happen? Considering they're still ploughing through side stories related to FFVII.. I don't know?

Give it up. Final Fantasy 7 on the DS *will* *not* *happen*. There is still a good chance (they seem to be on that kick) it'll end up on PSP, or one of the consoles. End of story.

FFVII never really did it for me. Not now or when it was released. The battle system was satisfyingly simple, though. I'll never understand why it's so popular, I suppose.

FFVIII was pretty good, but it was a bit heavy on the angst at times.

For me at at least, IX got it right. Nice long story, good battle system, and it even had a sense of humor.

Yea... FFVII was a good game, but having the reputation of "best" FF game of all time beats me... FFVII was a relatively long game. There were FMVs, but the game itself was still pretty long. If they fit that game on a DS card... it would be surprising to me.

Now FFVI... That's a game I'd love to see them remake on the DS. (and Chrono Trigger)

to bring ff 7 over to the ds would be a insult to the playstation family those who wanted to play it should of bought a ps1 at the time. the ds fan boys need to stick with pokemon and leave the real rpgs to the playstation. now a remake of ff7 on the ps3 would be a dream come true

Ahhhh, Nintendo Fans, I forgot, in your world Popular=Best. I'm sorry that's not true. Popular=Best advertisement.

FFVII is the most popular in the game series.. and honestly had the most impact. That game brought RPGs to the Masses. Between the FMVs people found easier to watch, and the fact that the game was advertised EVERYWHERE, even before movies, it was many people's first RPG, and first FF game.

But in many circles, the debate is mostly between FF VI and FF IV.

Whether it's made or not, staring at post-it notes covered with Japanese phrases, exclamation points, and hearts amuses me.

I think it would be much more likely to see this game re-released on the PSP or even the PS3 instead of the DS. The DS simply doesn't have the capacity to carry all of it. :(

I don't think fitting FFVII onto a DS catridge would be a problem; I recently read somewhere that Dragon Quest IX will be the first DS game to use 2 catridges. If I remember correctly, there weren't that many FMV sequences in FFVII, maybe 2 or 3 main ones per disk. Anyway, if there's going to be a remake of FFVII it would be on the PS3; having shown a PS3 tech demo, releasing a remake of FFVII on the DS would be a huge slap in the face for sony.

@Nycteris - me too. Just looking at the ones I could see/read made me smile.

Personally, FFVI is the one I want to see, if they remake anything, and it seems very likely that they'll get to it. But I wouldn't turn down a chance to play VII again. Or VIII. But I'd skip IX. Just my opinions, of course.

Ahh, mentioning FF7. It's like a secret code that automatically generates 15 comments.

You should just write "Final Fantasy VII" at the end of each post and watch the site popularity soar.

One of the issues I can see that would get in the way of FF7 DS is the pre-rendered backgrounds. They were made for full sized televisions. I can remember many instances in the game where even on a good sized tv, your character would be reduced to a tiny handful of pixels way out in the distance.

Imagine this on the DS. For that reason, I think a DS remake would have to be done like the other FF remakes on DS - full 3D environments. It would be a mammoth task... Would the DS manage to capture the charm and looks of the original back-grounds? Some of them were pretty epic...

Final Fantasy VII was a great game that i would love to play again, and on a handheld at that. but ive already played it on a console with clunky graphics. they were very innovative at the time but more than dated now, actually hurt my eyes last time i tried to play it. if im going to play the same game again, granted how great it was, i would much rather have it with updated, cutting edge graphics. so i would personally only want to see it redone on PS3 or PSP if they decided to go handheld. i mean we all saw the PS3 tech demo trailer. dont get me wrong, i love my DS too but putting it on the DS would definitely be a mistake.

o and i would boycott Square Enix all together if they put it on that dammed 360.
