Sony's Jack Tretton sticks with 10 year message
60
As the sales figures continue to show that the PS3 ain't shakin' what its mama gave 'em, Sony's Jack "We're still waiting for our $24,000" Tretton speaks to the LA Times and brings us back the 10 year life cycle message. Tretton tells the LA Times, "We didn't get into PS3 for the first six months of 2007 -- we're into this for the next 10 years and beyond ... A million units one way or another at this point isn't going to worry us."
Sadly, the optimistic Tretton quote was buried somewhere in the story. The first quote was actually from a 32-year-old tech savvy entrepreneur who pretty much echoes a choir of consumers at this point saying, "There's no compelling reason for me to buy it ... There aren't enough good games for it. And it's too expensive." Don't expect Tretton to talk price drop anytime soon.
Kyoshi Shin of the International Game Developers Association is quoted saying, "When people talk about the PS3 on chat forums they say it's like going to a very expensive restaurant and not getting anything to eat." Maybe it's like a good expensive restaurant that takes time to prepare your meal? We hope to get our food soon though, we're getting hungry.

"But hell, look at how much support Sony sends their old hardware compared to the other two."
Of course. Sony's old hardware had a huge install base. But if the PS3 flops (and by flops, I mean fails to take the #1 spot again), do you really think we'll see a 10+ year life span for the PS3?
It made sense for Sony to support the PS1 for so long. Ditto the PS2. Who knows about the PS3, though.
That said, Sheppy...
"For example, the leap from VHS to DVD was dramatic and apparent to anyone with any TV. Not so with the next gen formats."
THANK YOU. I've been saying that myself for Christ only knows how long and told by a bunch of putzes that I must be blind.
Anyway, I just don't see the PS3 taking off without at least a price drop to $300.
That is all.

Its hard to believe that the lifespan will be 10 years. After all the PS3 is adressing a small market for those who want the latest graphics and technology.
If you know that the XBox 360 came out only 4 years after the original XBox its rather hard to imagine that all of the sudden Microsoft wil double its lifespan. And once that XBox 1080 is out it will be superior in both hardware and a yet to be announced Super Hi-Def 2640p true hd format.
And even then, the XBox 360 graphics are the same as the PS3 ones, and the one that will make the difference are delayed "to a certain point in the future still whitin the lifespan's possibilities"
Winning a console war is hard, getting break even with the others is even harder.

People often forget that last console war was totally different than this one. There is a reason microsoft hired Peter Moore, and I always believe the reason was he knew Sony's one weakness, Hubris.
Last console war the PS2 went up against the Sega Dreamcast, with Peter Moore at the helm, they came out first and had some very good games. What was the over all problem though? No 3rd party support as compared to the PS2, horrible piracy problems, and last tons of money in debt from the past console war. Yet with all this they were able to come out first and hold on for a while, at their demise though, Sony sat upon the throne alone no competitor to stop them, till xbox and GC came out and by then it was to late.
Fast forward, Peter Moore helms Xbox 360, the xbox bled out cash like nobodies business, Sony obviously says "there is no way they will or can keep this up," what is the difference this time around? Mirco (Money in your Face) soft has a plan to take over the home and make that kind of money back in a day. Sony expects Xbox 360 to come out buckle and quit same way as before, then it will be only them and nintendo. What is the problem with this, they don't quit, they don't buckle, they find 3rd party developers, in companies like Epic, and Bethesda, and Capcom, and they create XBL. Sony Hubris of thinking they could just come out late and repeat what happened was their own fatal blow.
I have a feeling Peter Moore knew that if he could get a console company that had huge pockets he could hurt sony by just coming out first, even if what he came out with was lack luster, they would be first out the door. While Sony is just gearing up, Xbox 360 is full steam ahead. From then on it was just a snowball for sony, Xbox didn't die quite the opposite it just keeps getting better, Sony must have wondered why would a company just throw so much money at a system, the answer is cause they can.
This is dreamcast's revenge in my honest opinion, sony began to think "WE KILLED DREAMCAST" rather than circumstance and finacial situations killed the dreamcast. The article above points it out PS2 and PS3 are a lot a like, so what went wrong? What has gone wrong is Xbox 360 has the money to hang around and Sony shot themselves in the foot coming out late. This is why I don't believe in any way that 10 year plan is a real ambition, but more something they say to not seem shaken by this turn of events.

Resistance.
500 Blu-rays already.
Downloadable original content is AWESOME compared to Live's offerings (sans Catan, that rules).
I think there is plenty of food. Sure it doesn't come in the form of just games that are sold retail, but that's not what this system is all about.

And I really am one of the few who likes Blazing Angels. The motion sensing does add a nice feel to it.

This is one of MANY articles about the lack of honey bees.... Yeh, bees (not wasps or hornets)...
Seems that cell phones and cell towers disrupt the poor little dudes and they cant find their way back to the hive...
What this means is if the bees around the world are DYING off, then NO MORE FOOD for you and me... SEE YA...
F'n games... No wonder we're doomed...
b bb b b b b uttt.. he spoke bad about Nintendo... They have mario... YOU ARE GOING TO STARVE TO DEATH... Any simpler?

You do know this is a videogame blog right? See if we talked about bees at a videogame blog that would umm be RETARDED! As far as bees go mankind will be ok, other animals pollinate flowers besides bees.
By the way if somebody said fire in a movie theater do you run towards the closet and wait for the flames? Or do you try to escape and call the fire department. Upon finding out about this atrocity, did you run to a cell phone sites and yell DOWN WITH CELL PHONES? Did you, try and reach somebody in the biological community, nope! You went to freaking JOYstiq and yelled at gamers about discussing games at a videogame blog site.
Now I am hoping this is a joke or sarcasm I didn't get and we can all get a great big laugh at me. Even though I wonder if Darwinism will go into effect, and the bee will change in some biological manner to match their environment or is this a case of just pollution so it doesn't fit thus they die off.
