This Wednesday: Aegis Wing lands on XBLA, forms the head

Arriving alongside the most anticipated game release of all time (oh, and the Halo 3 beta), Aegis Wing is set to remind us yet again that things from outer space are always coming to kill you. Conceived by three enterprising Microsoft interns over the course of a summer and developed in conjunction with Uno's Carbonated Games, the side-scrolling shooter invites up to four players to pilot conspicuously colored spaceships and shoot down alien oppressors this coming Wednesday, May 16th. As with any modern spacecraft, each ship can initiate a mechanical group hug with the others and thus unleash more devastating (and elaborately named) attacks.
Aegis Wing will be available for free on Xbox Live Arcade -- a "gift to gamers," says Microsoft -- but only for "a limited time." The time will be especially limited if you live outside North America, where the game will not be available for download at all. No gifts for you, foreign gamers!

Free is always good!!

North America? So us Canadians are not gonna get screwed?
If this game is indeed free, it marks my Third XBLA game. The first was hexic hd which came free with my console, the other was texas hold-em which I downloaded free on the day of release, and now a 3rd free game. These arcade games never seem to hold my attention for more then 5 minutes, so I would never pay points for them. Even holdem, which I love, I just find easier and better to play on my pc with the poker stars client (the xbla version is too slow)

I haven't played it since then, but apparently they tried to fix some of the slowness with the patch. I just thought I'd mention it in an attempt to be helpful had you not tried it post-patch. It might still be pretty slow, though. I can't vouch for it.
You should try Catan, though. That's fairly deep and fun. I've enjoyed that more than any recent arcade title, though Castlevania was great, too.

I buy way too many of these Arcade games, it is just too easy to justify a couple of dollars.
I'm really glad to see this arriving free though. Especially with Co-Op.
Hooray for XBoxLive.

Okay, I have a question. I didn't want to play the halo beta until seeing the recent footage. Can I buy a used copy of Crackdown and get in the beta?
OhJustSomeRandomGuy @ May 14th 2007 1:46PM
This looks a lot more fun that piece of crap Gyruss was.
Pasha @ May 14th 2007 2:09PM
@Jake (#5)
You should be able to use a used a copy of Crackdown. Just make sure it includes Halo 3 Beta invite.
The game looks fun, but it's really bad timing. Same day as Halo 3? The interns are getting their glory stolen.
Game Artist @ May 14th 2007 2:12PM
Gyruss was almost impossible to control. What a turd. I'm not a big fan of most of the old games getting re-released though. I'd rather see "evolved" version with gameplay updated for todays standards.
Jake @ May 14th 2007 2:38PM
Pasha,
Thanks. I am going to get Crackdown used from GS a week before Forza 2 drops, play the beta a week, then return it for full cred on Forza, which I was getting anyways. mwa ha ha ha.

9: good luck getting a copy of crackdown with a beta key on it. I'm really looking forward to a free game though.
Benjamin09 @ May 14th 2007 3:19PM
I have seen copies of Crackdown with the Beta all over, I saw 12 copies at a Target last night in the Twin Cities.
Diskoboy @ May 14th 2007 3:25PM
This totally makes up for trying to give us Solitare, and then some. But I'll still be too busy with the Halo 3 beta to care.
Vidikron @ May 14th 2007 3:30PM
Can't beat free. And a multiplayer side scrolling shooter sounds like it could be fun.

Is this a joke ? What is MS thinking with this politic ?.

If you play halo 2 and are registered on bungie's web site, check your account. I received an invite on friday (saw it saturday) for the halo 3 beta and was able to download it. I don't know if everyone got an invite or not.
CNash @ May 14th 2007 6:51PM
Oh, so us non-North American gamers are screwed, eh? Tell that to my fully armed and operational American Live account... eeeeexcellent....
chenry @ May 14th 2007 10:10PM
@5 Yes. The Halo 3 beta is only available through Crackdown. You actually have to boot up Crackdown and access Halo 3 from the Crackdown menu.
George Waring @ May 16th 2007 3:56AM
Where do we claim this?
BTW Mike, Canada is part of North America.
gil @ May 16th 2007 11:48PM
I like the game in multiplayer mode, but the music is just horrendously bad. With a custom soundtrack playing, it's much, much, much better.
