Two ninjas and a Pac-Man walk into a Virtual Console

The first ninja turns to his partner in decapitation and says, "You know, I could sneak in and out of this place like a ghost." The second ninja rolls his eyes and replies, "I could sneak in and out of this place like the ghost of a ghost." Pac-Man looks up, shakes his head and says, "WAKKA WAKKA WAKKA!"

Guess you had to be there.

With the ice now thoroughly broken, we're free to tell you about this week's American Virtual Console releases:

Ninja Gaiden (NES, 500 Wii Points) -- Accompany one Ryu Hayabusa in the quest to avenge his father's death. A deadly blade and a handful of shurikens await those that oppose the Tecmo ninja's will.
Ninja Spirit (TG-16, 600 Wii Points) -- Accompany one Moonlight in the quest to, well, avenge his father's death. His adventure imparts significant advice to those hoping to father a ninja of their own.
Pac-Man (NES, 500 Wii Points) -- Not having a father to be avenged, Pac-Man fills the emotional void with delicious pellets.

OH HELL YEAH! Ninja Gaiden baby!

I've had my Wii since December, and have yet to buy anything from the VC. Maybe it's about time I check it out.

Ninja Gaiden? Yeah, I don't really feel like throwing my wii-remote/classic controller setup through my TV in frustration after I get knocked off a 3 pixel wide platform by a perpetually respawning eagle for the 257,000th time.

The rest of you, have fun with that.

I never had a TG-16, but if the Wii VC titles are any indication, I'm glad I didn't. They suck.

Hooray for Ninja Gaiden. Don't know if I'll actually pick it up, but it's a damn fine (and hard as hell) game.

Man, it's time to start playing all those games I saw on Nick Arcade...

what we need is ninja gaiden 2. actually being able to climb walls is WAY better than having to jump off and back onto the walls to climb.

Ninja Spirit is a fantastic game and one I've been waiting for since the day VC was announced. For $6 it is something that everyone should pick up. The graphics are good, the variety in weapons is excellent. Players use 'spirits' like the options in Gradius. Positioning them, with the right weapon, is the key to beating the end bosses. Ninja Spirit was game of the year material when it was released and I've played it many times since and never felt I was delusional when I played it as a youth. It's games like Ninja Spirit (and Punch Out and a few others) that make me really enjoy the VC.

Ninja Gaiden was probably the hardest game I've played in centuries. (Honorable mention: Ikaruga)

What we NEED is Kabuki Quantum Fighter. Nothing says early video game industry quite like a person being digitized into an evil computer loaded with a malicious virus. And what is the avatar of our savior? Why a Kabuki theatre warrior with deadly red razor hair whips, of course. Couple this with hilarious engrish and suprisingly tight gameplay.

I just wanna say Ludwig, that this post was hilarious. Great writing.

I won't be buying any of these titles, though!

Just wait till ninja gaiden trilogy comes out for the SNES virtual console. Just like Super Mario All-Stars most likely will.

I still can't get excited about games I already played years ago. I loved Ninja Gaiden, but it was hard enough when I was a lot younger than I am now. No way I want to revisit it.

Ninja Spirit is great! Now if only they would release Doraemon: Meikyuu Daisakusen.

Ninja Spirit is awesome, and anyone who says otherwise simply hasn't played it :) I grew up with that game and it's fantastic, except the bit at the end with the tunnel full of ghost ninjas. That was total ass.

I'm with sheppy, too. We needs us some Kabuki Quantum Fighter.

I would of thought having the older mario party games coming out would have been a better idea. You know, with the new one approaching quickly and all. I guess this is another week trying to beat Castlevania.

Ninja Spirit is so good! Ninja Gaiden DOESN'T EVEN COMPARE!

I would suggest that rather than give into your hatred of birds and letting it damage your nice new HDTV, you focus on the zen aspect of the struggle itself.

Also, I know Nintendo hated the product, but wouldn't some form of Game Genie type interface for the VC be awesome? I mean cheating is one thing, but some of the bizarre stuff you could do with GG codes in certain games was just wildly entertaining. I'd be willing to pay several hundred points for the privilege, if neccessary.

Yeeeeeeeeaaaahh Mofos Ninja Gaiden AND Ninja Spirit. these are so bought as soon as I get home from work. Ninja Gaiden...the game that showcased quality cinemas in 8 bit home gaming for the first time.

Ninja Spirit, one of the first games I played on TG-16 that was great and wasn't a shooter.

For the record...Ninja Gaiden 3 was f&^king impossible. I used a game genie and still got raped and murdered every stage....

lol yea. When I joined the guild Armad said I could purchase lockpicks from Shady Sam North of the Stables in Imperial City. Looked for his ass for two days lol
