Come and get it: Halo 3 Public Beta Guide

There are less than 24 hours between you and sweet, delicious, Halo 3 Beta goodness. So how are you expected to compete with jerks like us who have been playing for days on end? By studying up, of course and fortunately, Bungie has made that part easy.

From map layouts to detailed weapon analysis, Bungie's Beta super guide makes for perfect reading material on this eve of destruction. And for those currently enjoying Halo 3, Bungie issued a patch today that has broken all of your shared films, though it was in the name of making updates easier in the future.

You know, i figured the amount of Halo hype would be completely intolerable

but for some reason it doesn't seem half as bad as i thought it would

Oh well, i'll be happy as long as they try to make it less Halo 2 and more Halo 1

FWIW; I started playing it last night. I have to admit, after a few minutes of playing it with the new controller set up, it works well. It rekindled the want to play Halo in me for the last Halo 2 multiplayer matches I played in, oh about a year ago, sucked. Hopefully with this testing, they can weed out the cheaters. Graphically, it looks great, I'm not sure why people are up on that. The only thing I would assume they could work on is the character models, they are the same. But then again, this is part 3 of the game, what more can you really change.

They must have issued another patch because all of my saved films still work fine - including one from 4 days ago.

He'll also need a Gold account. The Beta is worthless without it.

You are correct, he will also need a Gold Account. If you buy a new Xbox 360 you get a month of gold free and the beta is only 3 weeks so you should be fine.

Press invites and Friends and Family invites for some members of Halo and Bungie community sites. Usually there's been about 500-1500 players on at a time for the last few days, and probably less than 10 thousand total.
