God dammit, I'll probably have to stay off the internet until release now to avoid spoilers >_>

Anyway, to wrap stuff up a little:
-)No controller has been specified
-)They are working on online play, but may have issues with lag (4p Ice Climbers match on a moving stage with items on??)
-)The release date is still TBA 2007
-)Only 1-2 more third party characters will be added. This narrows down the posibilities pretty much to one per third party, and pretty much excludes side characters (Meaning no Knuckles, Shadow etc.)

@Next-Gen-Gamer

"Why does everyone keep saying Mega Man should be in the game? What purpose could he possibly serve, other than the innevitable Samus clone? A little quicker than Samus, and that'd be it."

Correction: He would be a Samus/Kirby hybrid. Remember, he was the one that started that whole copy business in the first place. Anyway, it's not like Smash Bros. hasn't had its fair share of clones already (Pikachu->Pichu, Mario->Luigi, Mario->Dr. Mario, Link->Young Link, Fox->Falco, etc. etc.). Would one more really hurt?

@58 ALH:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jump_Ultimate_Stars
Already exists, basically 2D online Smash, with Nintendo stuff swapped out for Shonen Jump characters (lots of 'em). Get it from your favorite import site

Now that I think about it Mega Man would work pretty well. He could do the Kirby clone move, but only to steal others' projectile attacks, and he'd change colors and shoot arrows or lazers or fireballs or lightning bolts. And instead of turning into a morph ball and dropping bombs he'd have his Mega Man 3 pimp slide.

OR... instead of the clone move, just give him a random projectile, like Peach's random item move. He could randomly shoot leaf shield or crash bomb or magnet missile or whatever. And his non-projectile moves would be his slide and some sort of Rush-trampoline super jump kick or something.

the comic with Tingle and the wiimote on the side is just a question to the reader about what they think they will use for controls. it's not an indication that wiimotes will be used, and it's not proof that Tingle is a character either.

Since the developers have already said it'll use the classic controller, and they also said don't throw away your GC controllers, i can see the games defining feature being that you can connect 4 Classic controllers AND 4 Gamecube controllers for 8 player madness.

Provide a reference, please. Everyone likes to say crap without any backing.

http://wii.ign.com/articles/707/707504p1.html

"We found that trying to implement too much motion-sensory functionality can get in the way of the game. We're looking at keeping the control simple, as it has been," said Sakurai. "The Wii hardware has sockets for the GameCube controller, too. So I'll just say now that you may not want to throw away your GCN controller yet."

If they add a golden sun character, with ragnarok as a special move, then i will actually die.

I just want to sub up some stuff. To people who DON'T like nintendo or like reminiscing about Super Smash Bros Brawl, then GET OFF THIS THREAD! Go find your own thread about your own games and systems. And nintendo IS using classic or GC controllers, I am not sure if they are using a remote and nunchuk as an option but that doesn't take away from it (it says u will use remote for some thigns like choosing guys). Sorry, i don't remember where i saw it said that but i know that its true. It's still super smash bros. Just as well they were probably thinking down at nintendo when they thought of what controller(s) to use that "why fix something that's not broken". meaning, if there's nothing wrong with it, don't try to make it better and screw it up while trying. Just as well, they know that super smash bros is a big game that if they make it go slightly wrong or horrible that MILLIONS of people would be mad at them, and therefore don't want to let that happen. This is the web for the launch " http://www.smashbros.com/ " it will open (however u want to say) May 21, 2007 (end of long weekend). This part's to Konny. At least nintendo is throwing something new into the gaming ring, unlike the competitors. And don't say that Sony is throwing in motion sensitivity into the ring as well because nintendo came up with it first. Sony was going to use their boomerang idea but changed it at the last second. Plus they'll bearly use it. Don't say crap like "Why didn't nintendo put in a blu-ray player?" U know why? cuz we don't even need that crap. First of all to get real blu-ray queality u need a blu-ray tv which is about a few grand which is a lot. As for Microsoft, their game system works like junk. If you turn it on its side while playing a game it gets stuck and u have to get a new one. My cat knocked down my wii from vertical to horizontal hwile i was in the bathroom. there's a corner with it chipped off and the first thig i thought when i saw it was "is the game crushed? do i need a new wii after i just got it for christams?" the answer was no, since it's not crappy. Microsoft isn't meant to make a system, it's a computer company that copied apple. All in all, i like games for all systems. So please not hard feelings and now lets get along like nice people. I'm sorry i said those things before but i wanted to shut u up for a second and tell that you're wrong because u were. Sorry i wrote a lot.

yea..that was a long comment. any way i personally prefer the gamecube controller becuase i'm used to it. but i wouldnt mind trying the wii remote. as for characters i could see megaman as a new character. sonic would be cool. but what moves does he have really. gooing really fast in a ball form. they already have jiggilypuff doing that and yoshi. a character i would like would be Sora from kingdom hearts chain of memories but i mean come on whens that going to happen.

Konny, it's pretty obvious why they didn't utilize the motion capabilities of the Wii Remote: They didn't want the whole concept of Motion Sensitivity to feel tacked on.

If you guys haven't seen already they now are using four different types of controls. And their site (which i check every day except weekends which i always hope they'll post then, even though they won't) has 2 stages, 3 items, and some other stuff that they post monday-friday of every week. So if you haven't already, come check it out at http://www.smashbros.com (sounds like i'm advertising)and you can now move while shooting a gun, yes now you don't have to be staionary with gun weapons. I won't spoil anymore. If you also want to check it out at school but the blocks won't let you (like my school) then go to https://www.sureproxy.com (yes it need that 's' or it won't work) then just type the website in and presto! You now on smashbros.com through your school computer. Ok bye.

Okay it doesnt use the wii remote because how possible can you control running, punching, and kicking, plus all the combos with it. thats why the Wii was designed with game cube controller ports.

BTW i love Cpt. Falcon and im tired of people bashing him. C,mon its a game.

Can anyone please find a realistic release date? I am seriously dying for this game! I got one website telling me it comes out 12/31/07. And then, another website telling me it CAME out 6/1/07. What is that? If it waz released already, Nintendo should have a commercial about it, and everyone would have their lights on at night, becauze their still playing this game. Just so you know, I don't see any late night lights on. Someone please find its true release. My E-Mail is "judgekillacruz@hotmail.com", or MySpace which is "myspace.com/judgekillacruz". If anything, contact my MySpace becauze I use that more, but I will check my E-Mail, too.
