It amazes me when I see comments like "it's a beta version and this is what happens ..etc..etc". No, this is what happens NOW when you allow a formerly PC-software company (Microsoft) to become a hardware supplier. Games are shipped buggy, with patches coming later to fix obvious issues that were known when they were shipped and beta versions of a flagship title can be screwed over and dismissed as "well what did you expect from a beta version?". This NEVER happened in the days of Nintendo's dominance (I can count on two hands the # of major issues with their cartridge releases ... and an A-List title like Super Metroid played like an A-List title, not like some choppy B-movie on a VHS tape. Get it in gear Microsoft and fire your Q/A department.

as per bungie.net they *just* identified the problem, and should have it resolved in 2-4 hrs.... took them this long to figure out what the problem was?? That isn't exactly a glowing endorsement for MS's abilities to me...

Message from Frankie: There will be a Crackdown title update between 3 and 6 hours from now to fix the problem. (the article says this was posted at 3:55 PM EDT, so it should be between 7 and 10 PM EDT).

I just did *another* Crackdown update, and now it seems to be (FINALLY) working. So I guess it's technically still the 16th...

Holy God the network is slow, though. Anybody have instructions for 'turning off' the console while letting it download? I selected the option on the System pane, but I'm pretty sure that when I hold my controller "orb" button and select "Shut Down", it just turns all the way off still.
