Halo 3 to finish the fight on September 25th
The signs were all there: the Fall 2007 moniker, the oddly timed Beta, the Mountain Dew, but did we listen? Well, yes, we did. And so, Bungie has announced that Halo 3 will launch in North America on September 25th, 2007 with a European release scheduled only one day later.
Microsoft is billing the event as the most anticipated game release of all time and really, who is going to argue that? When you can release a game with a special edition that slams your bank account for $130 bucks and your fans hardly even flinch, we think you've earned that right.
So what do you say? Join us in an urban camp out the day after the Beta?

Can't wait for this and for the beta to go live. Glad I was up late enough to get the e-mail about this.
Quaddw @ May 16th 2007 12:29AM
Juts saw this while checking beta time lol
Lp47 @ May 16th 2007 12:34AM
The game is not that exciting seems like its just a halo 2 remake with new graphics and more stuff. I wouldn't call it the most antiapated game ever.
Dolla Dolla @ May 16th 2007 12:34AM
Public Beta begins, Halo 3 release date announced. Very nice timing.

Man, I love Halo, why do you have to come in here and crap in our pillow case? Go play Kingdom Hearts or something.
Heliophage @ May 16th 2007 12:38AM
It's great and all, but I'm just worried about its possible proximity to a Mass Effect release...
I'm hoping that Bioware finishes its masterpiece early enough so as not to have these two compete. It's bad enough that there's only 22 days between Halo 3 and GTA IV. >.
Number_Zero @ May 16th 2007 12:41AM
And now to go pre-order Halo 3. Hmm should I get the $130 version or the cheaper CE version? Hmm.
Cause I seriousily was expecting a November release.
Hex @ May 16th 2007 1:03AM
I'll preorder mine soon enough.
charlie @ May 16th 2007 1:10AM
Really? Most anticipated of all time? For some reason that makes me really sad.
laesperanzapaz @ May 16th 2007 12:50AM
Halo 1 was awesome, for nailing what PC gamers had for years....
H2 was awesome, altho less so. the Online stuff was real fun....
Halo 3? its graphics don't even approach Gears o War.
It's overrated, altho I'm sure it will be a killer app and console shifter for 360....
On the other hand, this year the PS3 can certainly look forward to ........no Halo. Oops.
Kaemon @ May 16th 2007 12:54AM
"Man, I love Halo, why do you have to come in here and crap in our pillow case? Go play Kingdom Hearts or something."
Haha, hate to point this out, but, he makes a point, thats all a sequel ever is. Not to say he isn't understating the excitement people have for this game. Just because its a upgraded form of something that exists already, doesn't mean its not good, I mean, if everyone thought that way, we would still be using black and white TVs.. Haha.
.....
And besides, why do you immediately say to go play kingdom hearts, so, anyone who dislikes halo, must play kingdom hearts? But what if they hate Sony and MS, they would never play either. I'm no big fan of halo, nor FPS games in general, but every time I hear about halo, I don't get all "Ohhh, they're talking about halo, I'm gonna go play kingdom hearts because I don't have the emotional maturity to play halo, hhhhhhhhhhhhhhhheeeeeeeeeeerrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr herrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr"
hinesadam @ May 16th 2007 12:55AM
Halo 3 most anticipated game release OF ALL TIME? Uh, nope. Not even close. Halo 2 disappointed a lot of people, so anticipation has tempered a lot. The three games I keep hearing about that people are most looking forward to are Team Fortress 2, GTA IV, and Spore.
WhackMushroom @ May 16th 2007 12:58AM
think bill gates corp. needs to check the facts .. duke nukem forever is the most anticipated game release of all time.
Tom @ May 16th 2007 1:02AM
Super Smash Bros. Brawl: Sept. 25th
Big PS3 Game [working title]: Sept. 25th
Hello @ May 16th 2007 1:05AM
Team Fortress 2? I don't think so...
>Halo 3? its graphics don't even approach Gears o War.
Thats your main complaint? Holy crap Gears spoiled people. Halo has a nicer graphics style than Gears anyways.
CelestKixy @ May 16th 2007 1:05AM
To #10.
Are you seriously comparing Halo 3 to Gears of War?
Gears has teeny-tiny little maps. They could afford a ridiculous-looking game. Halo is about fairly large maps with sixteen people firing lasers and rocket launches at each other with no strategy whatsoever.
That's like comparing apples and oranges.
Well, at least it's like comparing grapes and wine.
Or something.
Tim @ May 16th 2007 1:05AM
Halo 3 is going to have an epic marketing campaign. Probably the largest for any video game ever. And to get beyond the "hardcore" or "gamer" crowds you have to market your product.
This game WILL be the most anticipated game of all time simply because EVERYONE will know about it. Gears was pretty heavily advertised but Halo 3 started 8 months early with a SUPERBOWL ad. And that's not even the start of it.
Whether it's good or not, whether you want to play it or not, it's going to be hard to argue this games popularity, and it's title as most anticipated game ever. Especially down the stretch to launch.
Revolver @ May 16th 2007 1:07AM
Even though I find the Halo games to be vastly overrated, I have to admit that I have never seen anything quite like this. System launches? Sure, but never this kind of anticipation for a game, at least not here in America. Halo 3 has a lot to live up to.
Cuja @ May 16th 2007 1:08AM
Smart move!
THE WIDEGUY @ May 16th 2007 1:07AM
@hinesadam
Hmmm.....4 million Pre-orders, a beta thats about to melt servers, will have more online players then any other game, except WOW. Gee, maybe your right and all this hype is just imagination.
Funny u say "Halo 2 disappointed a lot of people" cause from the 7 million or so who bought it fairly few people were dissapointed.
GO BACK TO PLAYING WHATEVER YOU LIKE TO PLAY AND STOP TROLLING YOU DOUCHBAG!
P.s. People will play GTA$ for a few months, Halo will be played for years, if you don't like it...fuck you!
THE WIDEGUY @ May 16th 2007 1:14AM
I love the how the PC and Sony fanboys always have to come in and comment about games and they never seem to come up with something good to say, its always (This game is so overrated)
LOL, if true that means every mario game and every game on the PC is overrated, because they have changed very little in the last 8 years, but who cares if they are fun to play because thats what matters, only fanboys can't look beyond the fact that Halo is a blast to play....period!
Call it overrated all you want it only makes you look more and more pathetic.
Grant @ May 16th 2007 1:15AM
argue and say what you will.
Whether you like halo or not, it's hard to argue that Halo 3 is probably the most anticipated game ever yet. the game already has had commercials, and that was EIGHT months before it is coming out, can you imagine the marketing campaign coming in the next few months.
This is the 360's baby, and MS will treat it like so with a massive campaign. You thought the hype was big now, just wait.
Yourself @ May 16th 2007 1:16AM
"Who is going to argue that?"
I for one, I guess. Nothing really related to Halo, but calling it the most anticipated game release of all time is kind of... an insane exaggeration. I'd say we've had more anticipated launches in the past year. Twilight Princess and FFXII to name a few.
Note: this is in no way a comment on the quality of any game. I'm just saying - people are excited about Halo 3, but they aren't THAT excited.
nonpareil @ May 16th 2007 1:16AM
All I have to say is **spoilers** you will learn that Cortana is evil in 3.
Ian Von Porter @ May 16th 2007 1:18AM
Kant wate 4 haylow three to come out.. then we kan stup heering the feakin MS hype/viral masheen... its Gears of War hype ALL OVER agane..
Seriouslty, all this viral advertising with xBots posting haylowthree hype on all the blogs is getting annoyin.
why not the LS2/LS7? @ May 16th 2007 1:26AM
Was SMB3 not the most anticipated game release of all time? Hell, anticipation to just see gameplay of the movie seemed to drive ticket sales of "The Wizard".
THE WIDEGUY:
The 4M preorder figure is wrong. Clearly wrong. Stop quoting it.
Although I think Halo 3 is way overhyped, I'm sure it'll provide quite a good Christmas for MS.
EihBeir @ May 16th 2007 1:33AM
Pfft...screw Europe.
nate @ May 16th 2007 1:33AM
considering every Gamestop has at least 150-250 reserves already...which makes what...750000 in just those stores and not including online...4M could be close but my guess is more like 2M
Jared @ May 16th 2007 1:44AM
Okay...well... for all of you who say this ISN'T the most anticipated game of all time, then what exactly is this "said" game your thinking about?
James @ May 16th 2007 1:46AM
Halo 3 the most anticipated game of all time?
In America it's a contender... maybe. The rest of the world... not so much. Americans are so quick to forget that the 360 only enjoys the success it does in America. Things aren't quite so rosy in other territories. Generic first-person shooters are definitely an American taste.
THE WIDEGUY @ May 16th 2007 1:49AM
@why not the LS2/LS7?
If this is not true then prove it, even if untrue you know its gonna sell that many day one!
rinks @ May 16th 2007 1:50AM
Goddamn I can't wait. I'll be holed up outside a Gamestop in LA for this puppy... taking a day off work for the beta, might have to use more vacation days for week of release.
jaysins @ May 16th 2007 1:50AM
FF and Zelda haven't gotten this much exposure as Halo 3 and the game is many months from being released. That statement is just flat out wrong. Not to say Halo 3 is the best game ever, or will be, as I think people are confusing hype with quality.
If Halo isn't your thing that's fine. Games are a very subjective thing and what someone loves, another will hate. But to deny the amount of enormous anticipation, and to try and make it seem like not a big deal is foolish and really does discredit yourself. Millions of people are obsessed with this game. I checked bungie's site today and it had half a million people playing Halo 2. It's a big deal, end of story. You can post on here how bad Halo is but your not going to change anyone's mind who loves it. Just like Spiderman 3, even if it's not good it will sell incredibly. If it's awesome there's not stopping it. "All hail the king baby."
yankeyhotel @ May 16th 2007 2:00AM
Ok, maybe I am the only one, but I thought gears was boring after about 30mins. Sure graphics are great, but nothing even comes close to the gameplay of Halo not to mention the matchmaking system.
Icarus @ May 16th 2007 2:00AM
The Halo franchise is a first person shooter (fps).
The Metroid franchise is a first person adventure (fpa). Dont get the two mixed up. Carry on......
3cubedminus3squared @ May 16th 2007 2:16AM
People are going to buy Halo. Most will like it others won't. Deal with it.
As for me, I'll wait until christmas to buy it.
I'd rather play GTAIV. But thats just me.
Icarus @ May 16th 2007 2:23AM
Metroid is a first person adventure but still has its roots in 2-D exploration. For example Super Metroid was a blast and fans still crave 2-D Samus exploration. So actually the Metroid saga's are fantastic in 2-D and 3-D. So dont compare Halo to Metroid unless you were to young to get into the saga back in the 80's and early 90's. Whatever?
Hello @ May 16th 2007 2:28AM
It's an adventure because you can turn into a ball and roll around!
Alex @ May 16th 2007 3:09AM
ok im trying to download the beta, why isn't it downloading?
DV @ May 16th 2007 3:19AM
2 things:
1: i'd like to know why they are releasing the game a bit early like this, why not wait till november like they usually did. give the devs more time to sharpen this game up!
2: people are putting WAY too much faith into GTA . i have a feeling that if there is one game that is going to underwhelm its gonna be that one.
Evan @ May 16th 2007 3:19AM
Where is the beta?! "Download 'Halo 3' Beta" is still grayed-out. :(

Wow. How do you accurately spell "advertising" but not "stop"? You can "seriouslty" have a valid opinion when you master at least a sixth grade comprehension of the English language.
Anyway, four million preorders four months before a game comes out, ads eight months before, and five million thirsty Halo 2 online players pretty much equals an insane level of anticipation. Is it THE most anticipated game? I don't know for sure, but it has to be in the top three. I'm pretty sure Super Mario 3 is up there, along with FFVII. Someone said FFXII was, too, but I'm sorry, because although the game had an astounding level of hype as well, it wasn't quite on the same massive scale Halo 3 is on.
Alex @ May 16th 2007 3:25AM
Im getting pissed. i should just wait
Michael May @ May 16th 2007 3:35AM
Oh god, one more day of waiting over here???? WHY??
And halo 3 is BIG over here too.
Silent Xenocide @ May 16th 2007 3:37AM
Jesus Christ, out nice and early in September awesome. This is going to be one hell of a 3rd and 4th quarter for Wii and 360 gamers like myself. And why do people always talk about gears? Sure the graphics are good but, after I beat its (short) campaign once, I don't feel much like playing. It doesn't have the same replayability value as Halo. And yes this is the most anticipated game in North America, but not the world. I seriously doubt Japan considers this the most anticipated game.
dave @ May 16th 2007 3:50AM
I cant wait!
maylon @ May 16th 2007 4:03AM

You completely missed the point, I suppose I should have told him to go play another fps, or maybe some other roleplaying game, alas, I could not come up with a list. Basically it was in jest, and my whole point is why would anyone read about a game they don't like? Its really beyond me why they are here. Do they hope to change my or anyones taste in games?
DV @ May 16th 2007 4:32AM
up to this point in North America i think this is the most anticipated game of all time, hands down. this game is going to be MASSIVE, absolutely MASSIVE. i dont think any other game will eclipse it, not even GTA.
halo has the community element that no other game has. this game will spawn new fans, and more obsessive fans whle bringing back almost any person that has ever played halo online.
dont underestimate the level of craziness this game is going to conjure up
