@Jason

Both Ratchet and Heavenly Sword were never intended to include multiplayer.

Multiplayer probably works well only in shooters and racing games...cant see how they can implement it in a title like this, or even Ratchet which apparently is going to be more of a platformer this time round.

I don't know how you can say they aren't "slapped on" when they don't even bother to ship it with the game. I'm not saying the multiplayer won't be good, just that it seems like a bad trend to make a game and then release major additions later on - why not just do it all at once?

Why does this game look like exactly like God of War? Instead of a buff badass guy with 'whip-swords', it's a hot badass girl with 'whip-swords'. Gameplay look almost identical from the little I've seen...

I don't even remember any major PC games offering the entire multiplayer functionality as DLC, though I'm sure a couple of titles escape me.

That's pretty huge.

Hold on. It's 2007, one of the biggest innoavtions in gaming is online play and developers are still making games that don't feature some sort of online capabilities?! Every game, and I mean every game should have some sort of online function. It could be something as simple as an online versus mode, where you can fight with the characters from the game. It is 2007, we should be flying around in hover cars and robbing banks with laser guns. Since that stuff is not happening the least they can do is make it so I can play video games against the Chinese and Australians.

The last best hot badass chick whipping swords around multiplayer so far:
Drakan: Order of the Flame...kinda old one, so a newer replacement would be nice :)

Probably the reason why many PS3 games don't have multi-player from the start is the memory footprint of those features. The PS3 OS is _incredibly_ bloated. Seemingly simple features like a friends list take up many megabytes, according to one source as much as 24MB. The whole PS3 OS is currently a whopping 84MB, while the Xbox 360 is a lean 32MB.

This means that PS3 developers have 52MB less free memory available to programs and textures than on the Xbox 360. Since the PS3 doesn't have a unified memory architecture, there's less room to jiggle. Free mem is a very valuable commodity on the PS3 and if you're running short on that, it's time to junk some features to save mem. Like for instance multi player.

The good thing is that with OS update Sony has been able to add more features while getting the memory footprint down. I suspect that the Heavenly Sword developers are hoping that future OS updates with smaller memory footprints would leave room for memory intensive online features that wouldn't otherwise fit.

According to the 80/20 rule, 90% done would mean they still have 40% of the work to do (assuming the last 20% is linear). I don't know if the 80/20 rule applies to game development though.
