Update: Sierra has confirmed the "reinvention" of Riddick.
With The Darkness now a month away from being in their rearview, developer Starbreeze will be returning to its old punching grounds with a remake of the surprisingly good Chronicles of Riddick: Escape from Butcher Bay, according to UK industry mag MCV. The story has also popped up in Game Informer.
Pro-G reports that the game is currently titled The Chronicles of Riddick: Assault on Dark Athena and is headed to Xbox 360 and PS3. It's also apparently got online multiplayer and a "developer's commentary mode" which has us praying that Vin Diesel has time to make a special guest appearance. (Spoiler alert: He does.) Vivendi apparently wouldn't confirm the story to Pro-G, but said that an announcement would be coming soon: We're already turning off all the lights and drinking protein shakes in anticipation.

remake? Why? How about a follow-up? Also, why would the story be a surprise if it's a remake. /confused

Oh noes! Remakes on the 360 and PS3! They're the PS2-2 and XBox-2! ..Oh wait.
On a serious note, this seems like a dig to bring this game back. Isn't that movie and game both a few years old already?
Are we going to hear news of a Sequel movie in the next few weeks?

this is freaking awesome, although in all honesty I wish it was an exclusive like the original. Gives my machine more value, lol. Not that it really needs it. Yeah this was defiantly the shiznit on xbox.

What the hell is Dark Athena? And why am I assaulting it?
If the game is a remake, surely i'll still be escaping Butcher Bay? If i'm assulting Dark Athena, surely i'll be playing a brand new game?
Either way, multiplayer and updated graphics/gameplay/features make this an absolute must-buy when it hits.

Remake? New game? Who cares either way? I'll still buy it first day. Anyone who hasn't played the original is short changing themselves...it was just that damn good. And adding multiplayer removes the only reason it wasn't 2004's game of the year.

If this is a remake I will be pissed as I just bought the PC version of this game. If this is a sequel I am all for it and will pre-order it for my 360.

Awesome. I'm very much hoping it is released for less than the cost of a new game ($60), but I'm going to be picking this one up. Chronicles of Riddick is a fantastic game and I never had the chance to buy it at the time.

Yeah a suprisingly awesome game. I played throught the first little bit on Xbox but found it was pretty hard and the graphics were quite low-res. Picked it up a year later for PC and rocked through the game in hi res. A great game. Props to Vin Diesel for his brains in making his own studio.

How the hell do you remake a game you JUST MADE??? Darkness isn't even out yet!
What is with developers remaking the best Xbox games before they can even get a second one out the door? First Ninja Gaiden Sigma and now this!

A remake? WTF? Butcher Bay was an awesome game, but it doesn't need a remake. My guess is that since the original was so short (my only problem with the game), they're just gonna add a little bit more to make it seem longer.

Here's to more brutal killing followed by badass one liner Riddick-ism's.

Awesome game. My favorite on the xbox 1. I was torn when I heard it would just be a remake but 40% more gameplay will make it worth it for me. Not sure why this game needs multiplayer or how that will work, not everyone can be Riddick.

I literally pumped my arm in the air when I saw this. My hopes of a sequel to this game were never too high because so much of Riddick's popularity was lost with the flop of The Chronicles of Riddick movie. I don't care if this just turns out to be the same game for a new platform, I'll get this on day one.
