Lazard Capital Market's own Colin Sebastian announced some of the highlights gleaned from Sony Gamer's Day recently in his NPD game sales preview for April. Here's part of what he said: "Sony expects 90 third-party PS3 titles to launch this year, along with 15 exclusive first- and third-party titles. We note that several titles generated interest at the event, including Heavenly Sword, Little Big Planet, SOCOM, and [the newly announced] Pain." Generated interest? You bet -- we got so many hits yesterday on the site that interest certainly was piqued, we can assure you of that.In addition to the announcement that over 100 titles are headed to the PS3 this year (perhaps he meant fiscal, since the end of this year is getting closer and closer), Sebastian spoke about his thoughts on Home and online software in general: "We believe a successful online gaming effort increases the shelf life of video game software, provides an additional revenue stream for publishers, and broadens the overall usability of consoles. In addition, Sony's online community "Home" is in beta and expected to launch in fall 2007."
So, while he kept his opinions at a safe distance, we think it's pretty safe to say that while Sony hasn't been performing adequately this year (at all), when they have an even to attend to, they always generate such positive interest that we'd be remiss to not imagine a brighter future in the years ahead. So we will, since we don't want to be negligant of something that would be awesome. What do you guys think? Was Gamer's Day a success for Sony, or did they completely disappoint?
