@ 43. @ Next-Gen-Gamer

That's true, Sony should build up their first party titles. At their current state they won't sell systems like, say Grand Theft Auto, but they certainly offer a good incentive for people who already bought the system.

I didn't mean to put down Sony's first party titles, just merely stating that they won't sustain the PS3.

Oh hi, Ben Heck. Nice of you to drop by.

Difference, of course, between the oil industry and Apple/Nintendo is that the latter provides luxury items. Stuff we don't really need, so we'll gladly pay the price if we deem it worth it. Whereas gasoline is something many of us need, as driving our own cars is the only viable form of transportation for us.
Oh, and Apple's and Nintendo's products have (mostly) fixed prices. And they only drop in time, not go up. Gas prices aren't fixed, and can (and usually do) change every minute, rarely down.

No amount of PR can change the fact that many of us need gas and that we don't need (but can enjoy) Macs and Wiis.

I think the Wii is selling so well because of the family value. As gamers get older and have familys they want to get systems the whole family can enjoy. At least thats my reason for getting it. This is the first system I have owned that my wife and kids can all sit down and play with me. I have a 360 for me but I seem to get more joy out of the family time I get with the Wii.

I love reading people's dumb excuses and half thought analogies as to why the Wii is so successful.
Get over it, it is a success even 6 months later. Nintendo chose a different route than MS & Sony, gambled with their idea and is now raking in profits. Just cause Sony and MS lose money by selling their consoles, doesn't mean Nintendo should do the same.
Honestly, smart business tactics would be coming out with a product to MAKE MONEY. Nintendo doesn't have anything else to fall back on if their products don't make money.
Nintendo innovated, gambled and won. It could have been a major flop, but it wasn't. Got to remember that Nintendo saved a dying industry 20 years ago with innovative new ideas. Give them SOME credit for understanding the gaming industry, they are professionals after all.

"...how big can the Wii get?"

My Wii can triple in size, if played with long enough.

I think that the American packaged Wii is worth $200 to break even, i heard somewhere that retailers make $35 on each Wii sold, and that would leave Nintendo with about $15 per unit

but i'm with jaysins, i'll play the system that i enjoy, even if the Wii just stopped selling tommorrow and never sold again, but still got great Nintendo titles, i'd play it

Its just kind of fun to see Nintendo back in the spotlight, after years of having nobody know about my console, and referring to it offhand as a "playStation"

"5. I can't predict five years into the future, but the Wii is certainly shaping up to this generation's winner. Does anyone else find it strange the Xbox 1 sold over 500,000 more units during its first six months over the 360? That caught me off guard."

The limited supplies of the 360 had something to do with it, I'm sure.

Hey! The PS3 is selling less than the 360... Hehe, that wasn't a surprise.

The problem is the 360 had supply shortages for the first eight months. It was released in November 2005, and you had a hard time finding them on the shelves until the very end of June 2006. (Which is when I finally got my hands on one after looking for months)

I would be more interested in seeing the numbers for the first year of all these consoles when its available. It should be a lot more telling, as the Wii will even be done with shortages by then.

I hope.

What I think this graph SHOWS, more than anything else, is that Nintendo has been improving the supplying/selling of their consoles, while Sony and Microsoft have NOT, when comparing last-gen and the new-gen launches.

@61

Because you know, it's SO easy to get Wiis on store shelves.

I went to about 12 stores before I even found 1, where I had to get in line at 7 am on a Sunday.

I've been meaning to buy a Wii for a while now, but been too busy to make use of it. Might be about time, especialy with RE4 dropping soon, since i never got a chance to play the original.

Since I have a 14inch tv, a 360 or PS3 would kinda be a waste of time.. plus with a wii I might convince my girlfriend to play with me.. maybe..

This may be a late comment but when i saw last week sales number of the ps3 in japan, it's home country, dropping under 10k, I started to believe that sony made a mistake by saying to their custumers that they should get two jobs to buy a ps3. They did the same mistake nintendo did before (N64, Gamecube): they thought they owned the market and became arrogant thinking that a brand name like playstation or nintendo would be enought.
Not this time it seems...

Ok, i want to clear some things up, i've read about half of the comments so if this was already stated im sry. But this is not a summary of the past six months, this is a summary of the First six months of each System. So the Xbox is not out selling the 360 Right now, but in the first six months thhe xbox sold more units then the 360 in its first six months.

Yes the PS3 is selling well, why because Sony learned from its mistakes with the PS2 and are producing more then enough units.

As for the Wii being old tech with a motion sensor, is fairly accurate, it cannot support any highend games like the 360 or anything close to the PS3, but it was designed for more of a social thing, and its great for parties. will it out sell the PS2 overall i doubt it.

As for next Gen, the PS3 is gowning to own. granted the 360 was released first at the expence of errors, but the PS3 statistically wise out performs the 360. The PS3 is no where close to reaching its max potential. where Gears of War is pushing the framerate of the 360 to its max. I read that the Ring in GT5 is going to be played at 360 FPS, my eyes cannot process that many FPS (figuritivly speaking)and that still will not make the ps3 even sweat a little.

People get your facts (i know you are going to tell me to get mine) and then bash on systems.

I would like to point out that i did not cut down any system here, but pointed out the advantages of each. I have a Wii and a 360 and a PS3 and i play them all.
